  1. Well my family and I got goose eggs, so it appears on my card. My partner's card which is where my archery bull and Kaibab tag would show up appear to have hit for the Mule Tags. A seven year dry spell of no deers tag is over and I can hardly believe it. I want to see it for myself. Good luck all!!!!!

All our coues cams are coming down soon, can't wait to see some nice whitties on everyone's cameras!!!!!!!

  2. I've been reading your guys' posts for days and feeling all of the same emotions. On my card I had about 13 apps for myself and my kids and wife. No charges on my card I have been checking since friday. My archery bull and kaibab muley tag is on my partners card and he's been in Vegas with his phone off. I have been sick waiting to hear from him. Well he did get a message about the credit card charges. He finally called me back about an hour ago and thank you lord we are the proud owners of two Kaibab tags. I have gone seven years without a deer tag waiting for the mother of all deer tags. I wish all of you the best of luck in the draw and on your hunts. :D

  3. My partner and I own and use four cuddeback non-typical (1.3 pix). These cameras are sweet and have locking system to keep the honest people honest. Someone could easily come back for any camera and take it with proper tools. The cuddeback have log in codes and are useless to any one but the owner. I'm sure a loser thief wouldn't no this until my camera was in his home! We just purchased one of these moultries every one is talking about, from what I can tell in home tests the cuddeback blows it away. Trigger speed and trigger distance. Trigger distance from what I can tell is double or triple and the speed of the moultrie will give you a lot of partial pictures and missed empty shots. This will not happen with the cudde. We did built a simple locking system with flat stock for the moultrie. If you set it up as is I'm sure it's only a matter of time until someone takes it. Our cuddebacks take nice pictures at night with a flash. I can tell game are not spooked by the flash, they will stay and I've gotten eight pictures in nine minutes of a good buck on salt. Good luck with any of the camera you decide to go with. From my experience set up and testing your set up is key. Everytime we set up a camera we play with the trigger beam for a long time to make sure is right. Don't slap your camera up and walk away, you'll be disapointed with those results.

  4. Hey Josh, question for ya. What could that crazy non-typical I posted be worth. I know it's worth what someone will pay, but do you have a guess. If anyone has a guess I like to hear from you. The owner told me he was offered five grand, but I have no way of knowing for sure. Just curious on price tags, no reason I guess.

    Justin

  5. The owner of the non-typical buck told me it was taken out of the Santa Ritas. If memory serves correct, he shot him about twenty years ago. The score is mid 150s (I would have guessed higher), but is not in the book because the skull was split during harvest. I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw this deer. The owner let me take a few pictures, but does not want to be identified. The second buck is a proven hybrid taken this January. The owner has had him checked out by a wildlife biologist and the game and fish. He had been on this deer before, but missed a shot with his bow in a previous season. He was fortunate enough to get another chance to take that buck and finish the deal. On a last note, my hunting partner purchased a coues skull taken in Oct., it has a double main beam on one side. He offered twenty five dollars and the owner took it. I think he is going to post this deer, it is definately a neat looking buck.

  6. Wow Becker, your a pretty level headed guy. Both situations, I don't think I could of held my cool. Especially day two, were they going to sit under a tree or something? I would be nice if we all could find a magical place to sit that wasn't a five mile hike in and out. Where now one bothers you and you don't hear vehicle traffic all day. I set up a camera at a natural rock formation that I think holds water all year. It was a two hour hike in and out, no other water within a mile and 1/2 or two. After a month I went and checked it made the one way trip in about an hour and fifthteen minutes. Only 16 pics and the only buck was a trophy spike. Talk about ultimate let down. I still have to hike in and retrieve my camera because I can't view in the field right now. I left it hoping my measly 16 pics had the magic buck I was looking for.

Anyway back to your post about ethics, I've seen some riduculous things this season. a ton of bow roadhunters ??????? This seems to be the new trend. I also glassed up some bucks first light was waiting for them to bed. A Dec. tag holder rolls up about eight thirty nine O clock. Glasses from his truck, spots the deer. Puts a hour or less stalk, putting the wind to his back and getting on the wrong side of a tree line they were at. Finally popped of five shots. Four of them at running bucks. And when it was all over. He didn't even go look for blood. When a deer didn't fall in his tracks he walked back to the truck and left. Talk abour a bad taste in your mouth. Hope our end to this Jan seasons improves for both of us. Good luck, Justin.

  7. Thanks for the advice you guys. It's funny my partner purchased that book about two three weeks ago and were talking about it when you guys were posting. We talked about finding last minute set ups, butt I think if we change up we'll probably spot and stalk. We also have pig tags and two children hunting, it would be fun to get them on some pigs. And don't forget, the rut has to take place some time right? We do however plan on using that map to help find new set ups for Aug. We live in Tucson and hunt in 29, the gas bill has been outrageous this season starting in Aug. With scouting I have driven down there atleast 15 times. We have four cameras and will try to set up closer to home.

  8. My main tactic for the Dec/Jan season was to sit water. Get this on the first Sunday of the season 72 cattle were moved in to relatively some area with only this paticular water for them to use. I talked to a fellow checking on the cattle and they will be moved the last weekend of Jan. I have spent over forty hours on stand and have only seen four does. Does any one else think the cattle could have changed up the deers habits and perhaps pushed them to drink more at night. The cattle are at the water hole the majority of the day. I feel like I have wasted the season looking at cattle. I have done my share of glassing also and have seen almost no rutting activity as of this past weekend. I'm getting pretty discouraged. The more I hunt them the more respect I get for the grey ghost, what a challenge!!!

  9. Hey Mike I also apply out of state. I don't have anything against out of staters, except when they sue to lift the 10% cap. No really I understand that I'm going to get hit hard as a non-res. I don't think they should triple the price of our res tags. We have to look out for our own ya know.

  10. There is a comment box for archery elk in the survey, people may want to use these feature of the survey to voice their opinions on raising the price of elk tags. I have three children all of which will be appyling for archery elk within three years. My daughter already has two bonus points. Hunting shouldn't be a rich man's/family's sport, especially for resident tags. If they need more money I think they should pass the buck to non-residents like other states. Their (other states) ratios seem to be more if favor of their residents than Az. Don't quote me on this, but I think it's a fair statement. Anyway I waited 7 long years to archey hunt elk and I have to say it is my favorite hunting experience I have been on and can't wait to do it again. DURING THE RUT OF COURSE, ITS HARD ENOUGHT TO GET DRAWN WHY WOULD WE WANT TO LOWER SUCCESS RATIOS FOR LOWER QUALITY HUNTS. OUR OPINIONS NEED TO TO BE HEARD, TAKE THE SURVEY.

I took this bull in the 2004 archery season and now dream of holding another tag in my hand.

  11. Well so far I don't have any findings. No bucks have come in while the decoy was in place. Several different does came in, looked at it and really nothing else. They drank water and left. They did seem to be a little uneasy, but this is my first experience at water with a stand. I'm not sure what to expect anyway. The rut looks like it is just beginning and I will try the decoy again the next couple weekends.

  12. Couesgetter

A very important detail is battery life and your choice of flash or infrared. My hunting partner and I went halvies on 4 cuddeback digitals. These things are sweet!! Trigger speed is excellent no missed pics. Battery life is up to 3 or 4 mo.s depending weather and settings. Mine are flash and as far as I can tell it doesn't seem to bother the critters at all. I can put a large mem card in and get up to 1000 or more pics. If your setting up where cattle may be this can come into play. They can kill weak batteries and waste film if you get a 35 mm. I owned two other cameras I think they were game view or game cam. Weak not worth the money a lot of blanks and no night pics (to dark to make out the pic). Whatever you buy set up is very improtant make sure that beam is aiming correctly before you leave it. If you want send a personal message w/ your e-mail and I send you some pics from the cuddeback. Also the cuddeback has an ok locking setup for theft. But honestly its only to keep the honest people from changing their mind. Ebay has a lot of cam to check out, I saved about 100 apiece versus cabelas.

  13. I will be sitting water where I believe a big guy might come in. My worst shot will be about 60. Although I practice out to 70 I would prefer 40 or less. I have a river bottom buck as seen in cabelas and am tempted to put in out at the waters edge. What does every thing about this tatic on coues. Thanks for any info Justin

  14. Even if there is some ground shrinkage my dreams will become reality if I can harvest this deer. I spent 13 days a field in the eary archery hunt and came sooooo close to making the kill. I have a 103 gross w/ my rifle and have not yeeet harvested a coues with my bow. Anything over 100 I would be totally head over heals. As for your buck I'd like to see other angles and the pictures on mine really don't do him justice. Looking foward to about 10 more days in Dec. and Jan. who Knows 31 perhaps. lol I'm sure my wife would leave for sure. She often says I would pay more attention to her if she had antlers instead of her god given rack. Anyway, good luck on your future adventures and all advice is appreciated. Justin
