Can't wait for October!
Knifeboy replied to nohoch's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I would guess right about 90". Good luck, and let us know if you get him. The before and after photos are always pretty fun. -

Way to go! You have had a great year so far. First you drill a nice muley in January, then this beautiful buck in September. Do you have an elk tag also?

I was in 27 yesterday, the bulls are really active right now! I couldnt sleep Sunday night because the bulls kept calling all night. I got up early and followed them around for a few hours Monday morning. I got some good photos/video of a really nice bull yesterday morning. Good luck! The rut is on. I have the early hunt up in 11M, and I just cant wait to go chase them big boys around. Wish me luck.

Holy crap! Is that a Coues deer or Eastern whitetail?

Went out camping with the family over the weekend. I took a little trip down into the box canyon at Christopher creek to take some photos and just take a look around. Hopefully I will make it back in there soon to do some cliff jumping and swimming.

Easy way to remember grammar rules
Knifeboy posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Grammar rules never seem to be very easy to follow; in particular the notorious “exception to the rule” rules. Over the years I have assimilated a few cheats that help me to clarify what word to use, and when to use it (remember these are only general rules). For example I have a fairly easy way to remember when to use there, their, and they’re. The way I remember when to use the word “there” is to drop the “t” off of the front of the word, so the word becomes “here”. When I think of the word here, I think of a location, so I use the word “there” when I need to show location. For example; if I was to use the sentence “there are two boys at the store” I know to use “there” instead of “their” or “they’re” because “there” helps show the location. If you drop the “t” and recreate the entire sentence, the sentence still makes sense “here are two boys at the store”. The way I remember when to use the word “their” is again by dropping the “t” off of the front of the word, so the word becomes “heir”. When I think of the word “heir”, I think of someone who possesses the rights to something. This helps me to remember that “their” shows possession. I don’t see very many people mess up this last one; however, I remember when to use “they’re” by dropping the apostrophe, and making the two words that “they’re” represents, “they are”. When used as two separate words it’s kind of hard to use this one incorrectly. So next time you are writing and you need to employ one of the above, just stop and ask yourself if you are trying to show possession, location, or something else. The next one that I have figured out how to fix fairly simply is when to use desert, and dessert. Desert is an arid region (Arizona). Dessert is cake, pie, fruit, pudding, ice cream, etc., served as the final course of a meal. The way I remember how to differentiate the two words is by saying to myself “You can never have too much of a good thing”. If you think of the letter “s” as “the good thing” you can all remember that dessert is better than desert, because it has more of “the good thing”. The last one I can think of right now is the difference between then and than. The way I remember which one to use here is pretty simple. When I was growing up my dad always used to say “I would rather be lucky than good” I would always laugh at him, and now I say it all the time as well. When my dad says it he means he prefers to be lucky as opposed to being talented. However, if you stop and think about this sentence for a minute you can actually say it with either “than”, or “then”. If you say it using “then” the sentence means something completely different than if you use “than”. For example, if I was to say to you “I would rather be lucky, then good” It would mean that I prefer being lucky right now, and then at a later time, I want to be talented. So next time you are in a dilemma as to what word to use, just ask yourself; would you rather be lucky “than” good? Or would you rather be lucky, “then” good? I just wanted to share a couple little tricks that I have learned with you. I am sure there are many more little tricks to remembering these types of things out there; so if you know of any share them with everybody, and we can all learn a little. Maybe someone has a good way to remember which witch to use P.S. I know I didn’t make the grammar perfect in all my paragraphs, I was just trying to share some tricks. -
You were on CouesWhitetail.com! Sounds like a pretty freaking good excuse to me. LOL This might sound nuts to some of you; however, my wife and I have a deal that we don’t exchange gifts for any major event (anniversary, birthdays, mother’s day, father’s day, nothing). Like I said, some of you are gonna think we are nuts, but it works great for us, and it makes it nice when you forget what day it is. It is particularly nice because we don’t feel like we have to outdo ourselves every year. TJ, don’t get me wrong on this one; this works for my wife and I, but I wouldn’t suggest trying this on your wife right now. I don’t know very many people that think it’s a good idea. Good Luck! And congratulations on 33 years that says something special about both of you!

Took the kids up to Tonto Creek Fish Hatchery on Memorial Day. The kids have a blast every time I take them there. In addition to the beautiful scenery surrounds the hatchery, they had Old Glory flying with the Arizona flag just beneath. It was absolutely beautiful! This one is for you Amanda. What kind of lizard is it? Now that is one happy kid!

Great video Amanda, I sat here and wondered how long you had to wait, and how hard you had to work to get those shots; amazing. Good luck on the competition. It's a guaranteed winner if you could somehow convince David Attenborough to narrate it for you

What are the roads looking like right now in unit 23? I have a turkey hunt starting next weekend, and I am wondering what the access is going to be like? Is there a lot of snow above Young? In the past I have found Toms North of Young; however, I am wondering if most of the forest roads up there are accessible right now? Additionally, if anyone has a good spot to find some Toms any information would be appreciated.

I have a buddy to took two of these things and welded them together to make one mean pair of binos. Seriously!

Chef I didn't know you went to high school? Taco bell burritos are my number one hunting food. I have had week long hunting trips when I knew I wasn't going to be back to town for a while so I end up buying well over a dozen; they end up being my meals every day for lunch and dinner. I am just too lazy to build a fire to heat them up. I buy a couple flats of Costco muffins for breakfasts. Chef is upset with me because last time we went out I brought Filibertos (I was feeling rich) instead of Taco Bell, and I didn't share.

Doug, If you don't mind me asking; what shutter speed did you use on that fourth picture? As always very enjoyable to see your adventures memorialized in such a magnificent way; thanks for sharing.

Guess the Score Contest - set of Sheds!
Knifeboy replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
According to the numbers so far the average score is 111 5/8". It will be interesting to find out if our group follows the law of large numbers (LLN) on its guessing. If so, according to our guessing thus far, this deer should hit right at the average guess of 111 5/8". The more guesses the better chance our average has to hit the correct number so keep them coming. Now I would like to see how many people guess this number or really close to it? Thanks for posting Amanda; perhaps you should only offer shirts to the five that guess the closest in chronological order, so that everybody doesn't wait till right at the end to place their guesses based on the averages. P.S. Remember this deer doesn't care about the law of large numbers, and its not going to change its size to fit our patterning. -

Well it has finally happened....I am a victim
Knifeboy replied to Browning'sCustomMeat's topic in Trail Cameras
Do you have a water hole in the back of that truck or something? I mean why else would you set up two trailcams in the back of your truck; unless you were hoping for some deer to come in? JK In all seriousness that really sucks. -
January is a lot of fun for archers;and it seems like the CouesWhitetail group was very successful during the archery season. I wanted to start a new post where we could put all of our January archery success photos together in one. So lets see all of them, deer, javalina, bobcats, etc. Just add a one line explanation and a photo. Remeber this is for 2010 only. We can do a vintage one some other time. I think it will be impressive to see what we have accomplished in the last month. This is the Mule Deer I shot opening day!
