  1. With a Schwacker I worry about a small entrance and no exit wound because I hit off side bone.

Have you seen the pictures that Elkhunter1 has posted up of his kills with the shwacker broad head? The entrance holes are huge! When I first saw some of the pictures that he was posting up I was convinced they were the exit holes.

Additionally, when I was shooting my targets recently I had my wing blades taped close so I could tune then with my field tips (They tuned up perfectly too). The entrance holes of the protruding wings still made an entrance hole close to the size of my Muzzy 3 Blades (this is without any expansion). I am not worried one bit about the entrance holes on these broad heads. Hopefully, I will have some pics to post up in a couple of weeks of how they actually preformed.

  2. Ready2hunt, here is what I've found over the years and my wife will agree. Maturity is less likely to ever improve this time of year. It's like an old buck that puts the blinders on and his senses just goes plain stupid once a year. It's bred in all archery hunters I personally know. I tell my wife it's quite normal.

Good luck to everyone and keep the broad heads sharp. You just might get a chance to test your nerves on a big old buck. :)

I'll give you an AMEN to that...sounds like the gospel truth!

  3. Got my bow tuned, arrows tip'd, clothes are scent free, game bags are tucked in, knife is sharp, pack is organized and cinched, tag is signed, license in the wallet, truck is dirty, wife is feelin' lonely because my heart is pumping for another.....

Is it too early for a role call for the AZ bow hunters? It's as though the older I get the less mature I am about handling the anticipation for bow season. Opening day can't come soon enough!!!

  4. I was looking at that knife but like you I already have a havalon and if it ain't broke....don't fix it. I really love my outdoor edge swing blade too....I have become pretty quick with it and only sharpen it in the off season.

Oh and by the way I am not worried about losing my camo wallet. My wife can find my wallet no matter where i hide it haha. (Jk I don't own a camo wallet but I am sure this would be the case)

  5. Your buddy probably already knows this but Bass pro shops and sportmans warehouse has ready to hunt bows for $450-$550. They are not the "sexy brands" like Matthews, Hoyt PSE (they do have those as well for $600-$1000) however they are great bows that fit your specific draw length and for an additional $60-$130 you'll have a dozen cut/fletched arrows with broad heads and field points, release and target all brand new. These stores will also help you sight in your bow up to 20yards.

If that works into your price range I would encourage your bud to spend a couple of hours at these shops (and others around the valley and who sponsor this site) shooting and figuring out which bow you like and get it at least partially field ready. It will be money well spent.

  6. Picture a rough elk hunt and then double that. haha.

I love that area but it can be some of the roughest area to hunt in if you don't know where you are going or you are out of shape. You can find elk and even big bulls but just as you can imagine they are not as abundant as other places. With the type of terrain you are in its best to know all your water sources especially come Nov. and sit and glass glass glass. While I have never hunted elk in the matazal and I have been with others and the best success I have seen as been over water (along with everyone one else in the unit) or watching them to find out where they bed and then putting a stalk on em. It can be very worth it just a lot less "luck" as others experience in other units.

  7. 30-06 any brand. The versatility of the bullet grains is great. Ammo is not hard to find you and with a good scope you can reach out and touch accurately pretty far. Not a whole lot of recoil and you can use it for a javelina or elk. Everyone has their preference.

I prefer the Remington but any brand will do. Even a mossberg is good. Its the shooter....not the gun. Good luck to you.

  8. I was in unit 1 camping this weekend and practicing with my new swhackers. We found the shoulder bone of a deer (probably a fawn since it was so small). I shot my shwacker in it and it broke 1 j-hook because it had electrical tape around the blades to keep them from opening but the tip and shaft are still like new. My cousin shot his rage broad head at the same bone.....the rage was destroyed and even pushed the broad head into the arrow splitting it. We were both shooting at 20 yards 80lbs. My arrows are the generic redheads from bass pro shops. My cousins were Easton arrows. This all happened just after my cousin told me that he dosent shoot swhackers because the break to easy..... I am still laughing about this experience. I'll take a pic of the broad head and post it soon.
