  1. You can get a guest hunting license for him. I believe they are available at any G&F office. They don't cost anything, and they are good for 3 days. Applies to predator and small game hunting. A good option to introduce someone to hunting.

Good Point! Get the "Apprentice License" from G&F

  2. Federal Law applies. A person under the age of 21 can not buy or possess a handgun. Check with you local BATF office.

This really doesn't make sense though and I certainly do not have the literature but that would mean that every person under 21 who shoots a hand gun would be commiting a federal offense. Every parent/guardian etc who lets their youngster shoot a handgun while in the outdoors would be commiting a crime. Doesn't make sense you know. I am not trying to be argumentative in the least btw.

  3. I don't know how many of you watched 60 minutes last night, but they had a big story on oil and what influences the price. Apparently one of the biggest influences of price is the futures market. Based on activity in the futures market, the price can go up even if actual demand is declining and physical supply is increasing. I think they said Morgan Stanley was the biggest futures market trader and had way more influence over the market than the largest oil supplier. I keep track of the price I pay for gas when I fill up and looking back at the prices, they are all over the map. It's never made any sense to me, and now I know why.....speculative trading.

Didn't watch that report however I could not agree more with it. Speculation is key when it comes to oil prices. You hear a hint of war and the gas goes up as investors hedge against the possible fall out. Then you have inflation/deflation that come into play. Since gas is a world commodity these emerging markets keep prices high, and companies sustain them to keep profits rising. Thats why we need more domestic oil, producers, referneries etc. Think of the money, jobs and security we could provide ourselves if we invested in ourself (just in engery).

  4. Sounds like as mentioned previously that if he has a hunting license and he is squirrel hunting/varmit calling etc that he is fine per sec. B paragraph 1.

I say if he wants too get a license then him have at it. Sounds like the expected use of the pistol is just for enjoyment. I say let him enjoy it if you don't mind him making the noise and spookin' your animal :D

Growing up some of my favoraite memories were of my dad and I just stopping and shooting during his hunts. Obviously we did it during the less effective hours of the hunt though and this situation (as mentioned in the begining) is a little different.

    It's your hunt, have fun!

  5. "that is one of the dumbest pro baiting arguments I have heard."

"You are using a stupid argument and I feel it is dumb to argue semantics."

"as ignorant as a person or hunter could get."

No one is asking that you argue. Someone suggested that it may be against the law and it was clarified. There are plenty of threads which are pro-baiting vs. anti-baiting to cover the semantics. Having said that, while I do not agree with your approach I respect the right you have to say it. Everyone has their own opinon and that is why this forum is great, we all get a chance to share them.

Thanks to those who posted info on these pipe feeders.

  6. Nothing is illegal until you get caught haha!

I'll be complying on my hunt...although I am 100% against these road closures especially in 6A I don't mind walking to where I want to be or sleeping in my truck.

Having said that....to each his own. I hope everyone enjoys their hunts and camping spots regardless of where they are.

It's the FS's own dang fault for trying to enforce this and set up signs at the last min. They should have known this would be the issue this late in the year.

  7. With all do respect to everyone here it is not a grey area at all. Baiting itself is perfectly legal as long as you are not baiting bears. We have had this discussion many times on here.

I wrote up a whole thing on it with the laws attached, go to your search bar and type in "Laws Regarding Baiting" and you can see it. You can hunt over, around or with bait all day long (again) as long as it is not for bear.

If your damaging the land with salt or cutting up trees to make an area or blind for it then that is a different story. But it is 100% legal...see the other post to view the law. Think about it...if hunting over bait was illegal then we wouldn't be able to hunt over water holes or oak groves etc.

  8. I've used these before. they work very well, but they get drained really fast! I had a 6ft 4 inch pipe out in aug, and just the deer would drain it in about a week. Every time. Was nuts, so you would prob need even larger than that. Also, with the 4inch it was about 30lbs of corn for the 6ft.

Also, you want a cap for the top, and use a drain gate for the bottom. If the gaps are to big its best to put some tape over them and then poke holes so you don't have water issues.

great advice and thanks for the heads up on the amount of corn. I think i am going to try this out. I saw several people online drill a bunch of small holes so I am assuming it was to drain.

  9. I have been looking at these for a while and when I see them I appears that when it rains or snows that the water would just collect at the bottom.

Any thoughts from those who use them?? Does it collect, does it not....does it even matter. Just curious as I like the concept...it would keep me from making so many trips to my spots

    Thanks
