    Bigger gear for bigger animals

Im not mad, just letting you know what I will be shooting. The last 3 elk I have seen killed were all by muzzleloaders. I think my 140 grain bullet out of a .270 will be packing more punch than any of the muzzy loads. If I am fortunate to take an animal, I will post results. Same with my archery elk tag.

Found out today I drew a NM elk rifle tag. Will be shooting a .270 with a 140 grain bullet.

    Jaguar in the Santa Ritas

I know the guy who found the original set of tracks, and later found another set many many miles away. He has set out some trail cams in the area. Just got an email update from him yesterday on the whole deal. Sounds like they have huge territories, up to 100 miles. Sounds like a neat study.

What are realistic expectations for unit 1?

Your expectation should be somewhere between have an unbelievable time in the woods with family and friends to the time of your life in the woods chasing elk with your family and friends. If you happen to kill an elk, then that's great to.

    Broad heads for elk, 2014

I will be using G5 Montecs 100 grain. Use what shoots the best out of your setup. I personally would be nervous using expandable on elk, but others swear by it.

Getting started elk hunting with Unit 23

Good advice so far. Spend some time on google earth. You can find glassing points away from roads. On google earth, you can do a 360 view from any location to see what the 360 view looks like. It takes some playing with to get used to, but well worth the time spent. Much easier to find those places today in the comfort of your home. ONce you have found 4-5 spots, you can take the GPS coordinates right from GOogle Earth and enter them into a GPS. Then go scouting for a weekend. Go to the 4-5 spots you have found, and see for yourself if they are good glassing points.

Tomorow Monday the 7th is the day!!!!

Or you could compare NR to NR. Either way, its a far cry from the 3 months that was originally alleged.

I think you are missing something. We are in the elk forum, no? Wyoming has already had their elk draw. It took them 24 days to post the results from the end of the deadline.

Tomorow Monday the 7th is the day!!!!

Arent we talking about elk? AZ does their draw in stages as well. I was just responding to someone who said it takes 3 months to get Wyoming results, when it only took them 24 days.
  23. Mr. Smith - Then count me in the selfish crew. I think that paying up front is better, and one of the reasons is that there is less people that apply. I think there are very very few people that "cant" afford to front the cost of the license for a couple months. I mean its all about priorities. To be honest, and maybe this comes across as harsh, but if you cant afford to front the cost of a resident elk tag, then you really shouldn't be applying. You should be more focused on putting food on the table for your family. Hunting is not a cheap "hobby" and the cost of the tag is one of the cheapest things about the hunt, What it does avoid, is people applying their mom's, dad's, aunt's cousin's etc and fronting all that money. Its real easy to build up points for family members/friends that don't hunt when you don't have to front any money. When mom gets up to 8 point, you apply with her and get an archery elk tag.

The results will be out by the 18th.. Pretty clear to me. Thats 2 months and a week to wait, if I remember correctly WY makes you wait 3 months.. I just can't see what the big freakin deal is.. If AZ is soooo bad, move, i hear Commiefornia has some homes for sale. Wyoming is quick. I think the dealine to Apply is Jan 31st and the results were posted Feb 24th. Thats like 3 weeks. Have had my refund check for quite sometime now.
