The antler growth won't be helped much by the monsoons that hit in July. Keep in mind that most bulls are done growing around the first of aug and only the back end of their antlers are still putting on inches in July. But 7w has some great genetics and finding a 350+ bull is very doable IMO. Good luck on your hunt!!

What Caliber to get??? - Need Suggestions
Hornhunter247 replied to PelaPapas's topic in The Campfire
Of the choices posted I'd definitely go 7mag. Better to have too much and not need it than to need it and not have it!!! It's fast and flat shooting with some very impressive bullet choices out there. 25-06 is a great caliber if you don't ever draw anything but deer, antelope and javi tags congrats on getting the green light on a new rifle! -
First Time Elk Shed Hunting, Need Help
Hornhunter247 replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Shed Hunting
COusehunter, that sucks you didn't find any! I have had very slim luck around Stoneman lake. Lots of elk, but the bulls seem to hang on the edge of the big canyons to the SE of there. Tough hiking! If your not opposed to traveling a little further north next trip ill pm you some very specific areas that you will find some horns! Seeing as how I found the Mecca if she'd lands this year in NM, I won't likely be hitting my old spots much -
I love Toyota trucks!!! I do miss my old t100 that truck was awesome off road! But as good as they are off road, you will kill that v6 towing with it. Would never give up my cummins for a gas burner, ever!
-
If I knew absolutely without a doubt they did it, they'd probably find a map to a secret spot some 10+ miles off in a roadless area telling them that's where their camera is, or will be once mine is safely returned to the tree they found it! Or GPS cords I hate thieves!!!

I love 10x, others like 8x. I think 10 power bino's are about the best for different situations. You can easily hand hold them, use on top of a tripod for looking at longer ranges and their pretty small n light. The 8x are for close range glassing IMO
-
Vortex does make some good bino's, but for that much money I'd be looking for a used set of their higher end units, vipers or razor. Also look into minox bino's. I liked mine a lot more than I did the vortex's. cameralandny.com has some great deals on their website! Check their demo list out.

Help me score some bulls! Added another picture
Hornhunter247 replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Elk Hunting
That first bull will look alot smaller when he sheds his velvet! With that said, he will easily break 325". Very nice bulls, all of them! -
First Time Elk Shed Hunting, Need Help
Hornhunter247 replied to CouesHunterAZ's topic in Shed Hunting
I find alot of dead elk while shed hunting, but I agree that's not a good sign your going to find sheds! I find most my sheds up around flagstaff, get in the transition areas from pines to pinion/juniper, and look on the edges of ridges and the shelves just below the ridge tops. The elk n deer love using these spots to travel. Good luck n post some pics if you get into some! -
The kiabab national forest map does cover everything, might be a little of the NE corner that's not detailed, but it is the best your going to get
-
I agree with most on that bull being 290-300". If you like him hunt him! I've killed a few big bulls, best being 373, but the bull I'm most proud of scored just under 300", it's better to have a great hunt than a great rack!

Eli I just forgot to type +prongs, he looks to have about 22" of mass and 3" prongs = 25" a side. I start my scouting for my aug tag in southern NM tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have a few pics for you guys to help me judge
-
I'm not a great judge of speed goats, but given the ears stick up about 6" along the horns I'd say he's about 15" In length, about 50" of mass. I'm going with 80" + or - 2". Good enough for me next month, I know that much!!

Well with my first look at buying one, what an assortment to choose from!! What are some good ones to look at buying? I have an archery antelope tag and want to get one that I can possibly have 1 or 2 kids in there with me as well. I'm not to concerned with a price range, but don't like to buy junk so to speak. Thanks for any input I can get.

If that falls through let me know

Get on cameralandny.com they have the promaster 423 on sale for $99, I love mine! They give you a cheap head with it for free. But I just ordered a manfrotto head for it. Carbon fiber and light weight.

+1 on checking the serial number, buy them and ship them off to swaro for a make over for a few hundred bucks later on. That's a great but!
-
That's pretty cool to know, I guess I just assumed they were like deer.
-
Great price on this! If I wasn't 6'5" I'd own this one already
-
Great investment!!! I do the same thing every year. This year looking at a new bowtech, a new pack and a blind

I am excited that this finally made it through! The azgfd does need to be flexible to some point on what they can do as far as raising and lower fee's for different needs. And I am praying that they finally change the license year to a set up like nm has. 4-1 thru 3-31 of each year.

Couestracker, no it's not better to apply with others. Nm really screwed nonresidents a couple years back. And with no bonus points, it could take years to draw anything here. It took me 16 years to draw a tag that's usually above 25% draw odds. Just got to be lucky! Good luck on your deer hunt here!
