First archery coues

Very nice! What a great deer! -
Nice pictures Lance! Looks like a Coues honey hole! Thanks for sharing.

You'd just need an extra adapter plate for the pistol grip. The adapter plate screws into the tripod adapter and then it will attach to the tripod head like any other bino mount. I sent you a pm with more info.

Great story Lance. Neat to hear how involved your kids were in the hunt. Congrats to you and your buddy on great antelope!

I've only had mine since January, but so far I really like them! I previously had the 10x42 nikon monarchs and I replaced those with the 8x42 geovids. I went back and forth several times about whether to go with 8x or 10x, but ended up going with 8x. I figure any time I need additional magnification I will most likely have my 15's with me. I feel like I can hold the 8x much steadier, but it might be because they are a heavier bino also. I really like having the range finder incorporated into the binocular. It makes it so much easier and is a lot quicker when I see something in my binos I don't have to put down the binos, and pick up the range finder, reacquire it, and then range it. I do find that I'm ranging a lot more things than I usually would. They are heavier than most standard binos, but they are about equal (within an ounce or so) of my old monarchs and bushnell range finder combined. They do great on the IPI bino harness. As far as the optics, they are very crisp. I've stacked them with my 10x monarchs, and even though they are 8x, they are crisper and the 2x power is hard to distinguish. I'm very happy with how clear they are. The times I've used them in early morning and late evening I haven't had any complaints. They seem pretty bright and the only thing I really have to compare them to are my 10x42 nikons, and they are much brighter than those. The range finder button is on the 'wrong' side, and if I were king I would put the button on both sides. I don't have the biggest hands, but I have figured out how to grab the bino with my right hand, hold it pretty steady, and push the range finder button. (This works much better with the IPI bino harness than the crooked horn harness due to the lack of downward tension on the IPI bino harness.) Since the laser for the range finder is in the center portion where a traditional center tapped tripod adapter would go, an alternative tripod adapter is needed. Outdoorsman's sells the best model for this (IMO), but it is pricey at $99. In regards to the range finder, I have gotten reliable ranges out to 1200-1300 yards, depending on conditions and what is being ranged. I was worried about the warranty, but was willing to take the chance. If I had to do it over, I might by a certified pre-owned from Doug with a 1 year warranty (I think that is what it is...) and save a few hundred since the warranty is only 5 years anyways. Let me know if you have any additional questions or want to check them out sometime. If you go somewhere to look through them, download the Leica Geovid instruction manual so you know how to adjust them to YOUR eyes. They have a dual eye adjustment that is a little different. Ron

That is awesome! My daughter is turning 4 on Sept 2nd, and she's getting a bow for her birthday. My wife was telling me last night that yesterday she was trying to break the hook off of a plastic clothes hanger. My wife asked her what she was doing and she said she was trying to make a bow... Here's a couple of pics of her from one evening last weekend when I took her out with me to sit in a blind. I picked the wrong waterhole and we got out there late, but I wasn't sure how long she would last anyways out there. She surprised me in how well she did. We didn't see anything as I expected us not to, but I was sure hoping something would come in. She had a great time and wants to do it again. Here she is putting on her 'makeup'. Painted face... Posing in the blind...

ATV Restrictions On The Way
Ron G. replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Like others have said, enforcement is key. I don't see any enforcement now that could curb a lot of problems. I utilized 3 closed roads over the weekend to check out waterholes checking for turkey, deer, and elk tracks and just see what condition the water holes were in. All 3 of those closed roads had fairly fresh OHV tracks going down them. I can't tell you how many water holes right beside the road I saw quad tracks driving around the whole waterhole. Have people gotten that lazy that they have to ride the quads around the waterholes or ride quads 200 yds off the road to the water hole? There were several I stopped to look at in different areas that had this, so I don't think it was a single handicapped rider riding up to and around the water holes... With as many water holes I checked out this weekend looking for tracks, I wonder how many times I got my picture taken??? -
Congrats on an awesome buck Arrowslinger! Great pictures too!

Very cool pictures Lance! Thanks for sharing. I'd love to sit and watch a bull strip his velvet off sometime. (sounds kind of goofy after I typed it, but I think you all know what I mean...)

Well said Packer! -
Nice write up! Thanks for sharing.

Wow, awesome! And to think I wasn't already excited for archery deer season to get here. Seeing these pictures will not allow me to concentrate for the next week while I day dream of might be up hiding behind trees up there. In regards to score, I just know the shake factor would be VERY HIGH! Thanks for posting and tell your buddy to make sure he gives you the score after he gets one of these on the ground.

What about video?

I remember seeing that and wondering if it was supposed to be Mullins instead of Mullions. Figured it was.

Congrats on the arrival of your baby girl! Nice Axis also! Ron

Sorry to hear about the missing cards and cameras. This is getting ridiculous. Maybe they left your camera hoping you'd put another card in it and leave it there and they could come back and get the next card, or they took the card with intentions of viewing it and then returning it before you checked your camera?????? Either way it stinks! That is part of the reason I only put out 2 of my 3 cameras this year after hearing about all the thefts and vandalism. I never came across a spot I felt was safe enough to put my third camera. AZP&Y, that is a good idea on the locking code, but unfortunately they'd probably just get frustrated and smash or vandalize the camera.

Hard horned and velvet bulls!
Ron G. replied to Lance's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Wow! Awesome bull! Thanks for sharing the pics. Ron -
Sounds like Ron is getting ready for pictures again this year with a big buck. David I can only dream... devinv, I think I remember your truck. Did it have a sticker on it saying something about fat girls??? If so, dump that sticker and get a coueswhitetail.com sticker from Amanda! Just messing with you. (Wondering if it was your truck that I remember...)

&*%$ trail camera thief's strike again
Ron G. replied to Big Browns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Very sorry to hear about your second camera. I've got 2 out now, but haven't put my 3rd out anywhere due to not finding a secure enough out of the way spot. Just goes to show there aren't very many 'honey holes' left anymore... Stinks to think it is fellow hunters ripping each other off... I use an engraver as well to engrave my name and phone number in at least 8-10 different places all over the camera... I figure if they are going to re-use it they are going to have to file the heck out of it to get rid of the engravings.
