  1. If you're able to bring a small ice chest with you into the blind, put 4-5 ice cubes in zip loc bags and keep them on your head (under your hat). Unzip the plastic bag a bit and you can let cold water trickle down the back of your neck also. 4-5 ice cubes will only last ~30-40 mins, so plan accordingly. If sitting all day you might need a big ice chest to carry enough ice bags... :)

  2. 28" barrell Max4 camo Benelli Nova shotgun has been SOLD...

This is the regular Nova, and not the supernova.

I'm asking $375 for this shotgun. It comes with 3 chokes (IC, M, and Full) and the choke wrench.

Some wear marks on the shotgun.

I'm selling it because I have 2 of them, haven't used it in a while, and need more room in my gun safe.

    Thanks for looking!

  3. I've been meaning to get this up here sooner, but haven't had the chance...

I first started formulating a plan last year while glassing in July and I glassed up 3 bears in 30 minutes. Figured I'd put in for the archery bear tag in that part of AZ this year. Fast forward to this year, and after drawing the tag, doing some scouting, planning, and recruiting some friends to help, I found myself stalking in on a decent black bear in mid-July here in AZ.

I was able to move in with in 50 yards while he was feeding and put an arrow in him. He ran off about 60 yards and crashed in sight. I was very happy, but then the work began. Luckily, the little cloud cover we had held until we got him skinned and quartered, and as we were donning our packs for the hike out, the sun started beating down on us. The bear was spotted at 5:15am by David (azhuntnut), I shot him at 7am, and we had him back to the truck and on ice by 1pm.

I was very appreciative of the help I had to get him broken down and back to the truck.

  4. I've been using a Mystery Ranch pack the last 3 years or so, and after waiting to hear feedback from a buddy who got the 1850 and being able to carry his briefly during archery javelina season, I decided to pick up an 1850 for myself. I love my Mystery Ranch NICE frame and Longbow and Metcalf bags, but the pack base weight is pretty heavy. I got the 1850 for a 'lighter-duty' pack or when I didn't need the full durability of the MR. When using the 1850, I drop about 4.5 lbs of pack weight. I can definitely feel that over the course of a few days.

I've only used my 1850 for 2 days while pig hunting, but so far I'm pleased with it. It is very comfortable, although the shoulder straps are thicker than what I'm used to. The pack did squeak pretty bad where my camelbak tube came out of the tube port (rubber tube rubbing against the nylon), but I put a neoprene sleeve on the tube and it is silent now.

I used the load sling to pack out my pig (head and cape and meat, so not much weight) on the pack's maiden voyage.

In regards to size, I think I'd like to have a 3000 cu in bag if it was my only bag, but I think the size is perfect for what I plan on using it for (archery javelina, archery deer, and archery elk; I'll probably carry my MR when hunting with my wife or kids to have more capacity and am more likely to be carrying more weight). The load sling does provide the option of an extra 2500 cu in, so if I did need to pack extra jackets or other gear, it would all fit when placed between the bag and frame. It would just be a bit harder to get to instead of reaching into a pack bag and pulling it out.

Here are a couple of pictures...

  5. After holding out for a while and seeing how a buddy's pack held up through a season of use, I broke down and bought an 1850 a couple of weeks ago. Took it out last weekend and shot a pig on it's maiden voyage. After using it for a couple of days I'm really liking it. Only issue I had was my camelbak bladder tube was squeaking against the nylon on the tube port. I put a neoprene tube cover on my hose and it alleviated the squeak. It carried my gear and my quartered out pig very well. I dropped about 4-5 lbs off my previous daypack setup depending on which bag I was using.

  6. Bino Harness and Range Finder Case are SOLD.

I've been debating whether to sell this or not for a while, but figure I'd post it up for sale. With my wife hunting and kids getting older, I hope I'm not making a mistake. I just haven't used the bino harness for a while and I purchased the range finder case more for a camera case, but haven't used that either like I thought I would.

The bino case shows some wear around the edges of the magnets (see pics below), but is still in great condition. I've modified the bino case some by 1) adding different connectors to attach binos to the bungee cords, and 2) by adding deer leather to the inside of the case to quiet the removal and insertion of binoculars.

The range finder case has only been in the field a couple of times, but is missing a bottom fastening clip on the backside. I've submitted a warranty request with Badlands, but haven't received the clip yet. For most uses, it isn't needed anyways.

Price for the bino harness is $75 shipped.

Price for the range finder case is $40 shipped.

If bought together, price is $100 shipped.

Please add 3% for paypal if paying by paypal.

    Thanks,

    Ron
