Left the docks at 8:30 PM on 7-19-13 for a 1 1/2 day tuna trip and picked up some big but fair bait. The captain and crew did a long range style seminar which certainly helped as we only lost a couple fish all day due to tangles and the tuna shuffle went better than expected with a full boat. Woke up to a couple small yellowtail getting taken from a nice looking paddy offshore. We were on the way to BFT grounds and just had to make the stop but only two tails on the stop. Once we got to the BFT grounds we found a school and a small bite went on. I picked up my first bite, keys were a hot bait that could get far from the boat, and a long soak. Dont waste your time on a bad bait and make sure not to over handle it. When you nose hook the bait and it trys to swim out of your hand at 5000 rpm......hot bait otherwise unhook it through over and get another one! The first tuna of the day is the small one about 15 pounds.

From there we went searching for school of hungry tuna but couldn't get a school to stay with us. The captain (The best captain I have ever fished with) sure did search long and hard, didn't mind burning tons of fuel to find the fish, Finally a hour or so before sun down he found a school that stayed with the boat until dark, This is where we picked up the majority of our fish, a lot of which were 35-40 pounds. The kite here worked very well, 6 of our 46 BFT were kite fish. Once again a long soak on a good bait worked for me. My two biggest make on this stop both 40 pounds.

This was the most exciting trip so far mostly because of the way the captain and crew ran the show! If you have never tried offshore fishing.........................try it...........you will not regret it! Make sure you get some motion sickness meds before you go or it will be the worsted experience your have ever had! Also, just check the fish counts at the lands
