Two boats came away with big paydays at the Oregon Tuna Classic and Deep Canyon Challenge. OTC is a fantastic series of events, where all proceeds go to benefit Oregon Food Bank and Ducks Unlimited.

The Deep Canyon Challenge was the first event of the series and was held in Ilwaco, Washington. Team Duckworth came away with a payday of $18,580, including a $5,000 bonus for winning the Garmin 5 Grand Giveaway. They dominated the field by weighing in five tuna, weighing a total of 152.19 pounds, and also caught the tournamentâs largest fish at 36.48 lbs. The anglers who fish the OTC series are very close-knit, so taking home one of the most prestigious titles is about more than just winning. Itâs about the bragging rights.

Several weeks later, many of the same teams reconvened for the Oregon Tuna Classic in Garibaldi, Oregon. This time around, with the help of their GPSMAP 840xs, âTeam Oppurtunatyâ outfished 64 other boats on their way to the winnerâs circle and almost doubled their payday after taking into account their winnings from the Garmin 5 Grand Giveaway. While the fishing was tough for many boats due to rougher seas than normal, over 3,000 pounds of tuna were caught and donated to the Oregon Food Bank, and the auction raised more than $50,000 for charity.

Good luck to the winners of the Oregon Tuna Classic and Deep Canyon Challenge, as both teams qualified for the 2016 Offshore World Championship, which will be held in Costa Rica next April.
