Hunt Stories
Kid of Wounded Warrior
Our Thanksgiving was memorial. I took my oldest daughter to a deer camp south of Tucson and she harvested her first with an amazing 420 yard shot. As a father, avid hunter, and wounded warrior, I’ve crossed many emotional trails to see this through. Fortunately, Safari Club International and AZGFD teamed up to provide two diligent guides to make this happen. Without a doubt, I could not have done this on my own. Here’s a small snippet on the story:
Safari Club International (SCI) & AZGFD hosted a Youth Deer Camp over Thanksgiving weekend. After SCI heard I was having trouble getting my kid (Jasmine) to the deer due to combat injuries, they teamed us up with a killer duo (Shawn Clarno and Jimmy Stewart). Within the first few hours of daylight we had this nice 4×3 lined up for Jasmine. Jimmy offered his Remington 223 for the 400+ yard shot and she nailed him after a couple close misses at 500+ yards. Their expertise and dedication is second to none. After a tough climb (for me), they conducted a photo-op to capture the moment. Then, without hesitation, Shawn threw the deer on his back and rucked it back to the truck. After getting back to camp, Shawn contacted his father (Jerry Clarno of Jerry’s Taxidermy Studio) who immediately returned to the camp to cape her deer and prep it for his artistic touch. Thank you ALL for making this life-long dream come true.
