love smart wool socks! I haven't yet tried hiking with sock liners, but I recently bought some and will try it.

Are you familiar with View New Content? If you use that then it shows you the content that is new since your last visit. And then when you see the list of threads that have posts since your last visit, you just click on the little blue dot to the left of the title and it will take you to the first unread post in that thread. see attached picture.

7/14/2012 CA Early Archery Deer Hunt "Warning Graphic"
CouesWhitetail replied to bear402's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Great shot and congratulations on a fine buck! Love the long story with details. Thank you. -
I have all the new Covert models in and I think you will like them! They run in price from about $129 to $350 depending on which model you choose. The most expensive models are the black infrared that send photos to your phone/email. The Coverts have amazing battery life and you can run the cameras on just 4 AA batteries or add more batteries for longer life. Most will hold 8 batteries, some 12. But you only need four to run the camera. the Red40 and MP6 now have the moon phase and temp stamps on them as well as date and time. you can check out the cameras in the new store

Brian Wakeling got back to me and said that in the June Habitat Partnership Committee Newsletter they listed how all the money from the auction tags and raffle tags was spent for the most recent funding cycle. Thanks Brian! here is a link to the June newsletter and it breaks it all out by species. http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/documents/June2012HPCNewsletter.pdf All the newsletters can be found at http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/hpc_newsletters.shtml. I think you can find more details on all the proposals here: http://www.azgfd.gov/w_c/hpc_pastProjProposals.shtml As I have posted in this forum before, anyone that is truly interested in how the money is spent and wants a say in how it's spent, should get involved with the Habitat Partnership committee.

Lance, I will check with AGFD for that list (you can do this also of course). The projects are all public info. I think it's just like auction tag money. A listing of all projects completed with auction tags is available from AGFD every year for each species and I assume a listing of Big Game Raffle projects is available as well. Amanda

Very nice Doug! Good job Rica! -
All three mentioned above are good and are sponsors of this site. In addition, here is another sponsor who is up in Flagstaff who can help you out. http://www.huntershq.com/ The other thing you should get, especially being from out of state is the Outdoorsmans Resource Guide for AZ. It lists phone numbers and addresses for bow shops, taxidermists, gas stations, auto mechanics, and a lot more stuff like that which you might need during your hunt. CEI Outdoorsmans Resource Guide is also a sponsor here. Check out their website for more info on the publication. It's really useful for hunters during a hunt! http://outdoorsmansresourceguide.com/

Sounds fun! But you know it would fall on a weekend you had to work!! Oh no it won't. lol As of now my work schedule for next year has me working 4/10s with every weeekend off. No more missing projects, banquets, and our first ever San Diego Fishing Adventure. I wonder how many would sign up and who would be willing to put something like that together? TJ sounds like you should put it together then!!

The entire point of the AZ Big Game super raffle is to raise money for wildlife conservation.....it's was not establisted to create more opportunity for resident hunters only.

Whitetail does can grow antlers. It is very rare, probably much less than 1 % of all does, and it is caused by a hormonal imbalance. Usually a female with antlers won't have enough elevated hormones to cause the velvet to shed and so she keeps growing velvet antlers. But they can have hard antler also. I have never seen a Coues deer doe with antlers, but there is no reason it couldn't happen. The fact that some female animals get male characteristics is part of the reason why game regulations are listed as "antlered deer" and not "bucks" or as "bearded turkey" not "male turkey or toms". That way a hunter can not get a citation for shooting an antlered doe or a bearded hen. I once saw a guy bring in a bearded hen turkey that had eggs developing inside her. So even though these animals may have some unusual hormones, they can sometimes reproduce and function as normal females. I also saw a photo on the 'net of what appears to be an hard antlered doe with twins. Very interesting photo! Search the net you might find the link. Amanda

If they only made it for AZ residents we would only raise 1/2 as much money for wildlife conservation. Apparently about 1/2 the applications come from out of state. Guess the out of staters were just extra lucky this year.
