Special Commisioner's Coues Tag raises $15,000 for wildlife
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in The Campfire
I am at the SCI banquet in Tucson and the coues tag just sold for $15000 in some intense bidding. It is always fun to be sitting next to the winning bidder on something like this! All this money goes to the AGFD to be used on projects to benefit coues deer. Winning bidder is from Texas. -

I already listed three books that I think you should check out above, but here is another one I just finished reading on the kindle on my phone. If you like adventure and survival stories, this one is for you! It's by far one of the most amazing stories of survival ever! You won't believe what these guys went through. It really puts the troubles in your own life in perspective.... The Endurance:Shackleton's Legendary Expedition http://www.amazon.com/The-Endurance-Shackletons-Legendary-Expedition/dp/0375404031

We had a thread not too long ago that had what you are asking for in it.....like a listing people's favorite posters.....I will have to try and dig it up.

Actually he posted on here not too long ago, but he is another "facebooker". He posts there all the time. I actually just saw him up in Payson the other day....saw a truck with RimView RV sticker on it and then saw the CouesWhitetail.com sticker and realized it must be him.

It's always interesting to see who comes and goes....but really in your list almost all of them are still regularly posting. There are only three on your list that don't post much anymore. Outdoor Writer is on a lot but chooses not to post. I think he got tired of getting bashed by other members. Same is true of Coues-n-Sheep...seems his posts always caused a firestorm and that gets old after awhile. Lark is really the only one on your list that "quit" and he did so apparently over some minor moderation in that whole AZSFW thread which turned into a giant bashing fest. Some people, like Scott Adams, just love Facebook now and prefer posting there because they like having a small tight group of family and friends to share posts with. I wish people would just take some time and think about how they interact on the forum. There are too many people that feel the need to bash and that causes others to pull back and stop posting. That happens to old timer's as well as newbies. There are a lot of people over the years that shared one story and got bashed or ridiculed and so they stopped posting.

Casey, Their menu with prices is on their website which is linked in Chef's original post. It's on the pricey side, but there aren't many places in AZ that have that kind of ambience!

very nice!!

Intersting list.....I was surprised how many I had already read. But most of that was because it was required reading in school..... here are a few I have read recently that you might find interesting. Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/0393317552 A short history of nearly everthing by Bill Bryson http://www.amazon.co.../ref=pd_sim_b_5 The Big Burn by Timothy Eagan http://www.amazon.co...teddy roosevelt

July 21st Get-Together at Gila Outdoor in Safford - GIANT BUCKS!
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in CouesWhitetail.com Get-togethers!
yes, there is always some conflict no matter what date is picked. We just have to go with the date that works best for whoever is hosting the event. It would be great to do one up at Sunrise! -
good idea! We should do a little CW gathering there.....I was thinking it was a little far out of the way for ppl, but sounds like several of you have made the trip and would like another reason to go.

The HR8 didn't have the runaway problem, it just affected some of the Covert 2s (as well as the identical Bushnell trophy cams). If you can't get the Covert 2 to work, let me know and I will swap it out for you for a new covert. Either the MP6 or the Red40. You are past warranty I am sure, but I want you to be happy with the camera and so am happy to give you a new one. You can check out the new cameras in the new store: http://store.coueswhitetail.com/categories/Trail-Cameras/

Awesome!!
-
I love leaving trail cams on video! thx for posting.
-
CMC, How long have you been using that camera? The runaway problem should have showed itself with the first use and the camera could have been returned for a new one under warranty. I forgot the exact procedure for that reboot, but it is not likely to fix that runaway problem. Did you buy that camera from me?

The bears are probably worth more than my house! It's a stunning collection for sure. Well worth the trip out there. The beer selection is awesome!! I had some weird flemish sour beer that was really strange, but it grew on me!

Wow! Glad you are ok!

Volunteers sought for two wildlife habitat projects this month July 4, 2012 If you’re looking for ways you can get outside and help enhance wildlife habitat, below are two great projects that are seeking volunteers. Buck Springs wildlife habitat project northeast of Payson, July 14-15 The Arizona Elk Society, Arizona Game and Fish Department, and U.S. Forest Service are conducting a volunteer work project the weekend of July 14-15 in Game Management Unit 5A, in the Coconino National Forest northeast of Payson. This is a unique area with high wildlife value and is home to elk, turkeys, bears, songbirds, native fish and a host of other important wildlife species. Many of the area's meadows and associated riparian areas are becoming overrun with young pine trees. Unless the pine trees are removed, the meadows will be entirely overrun in time, and the important water storage role the meadows have will be lost. In a cooperative venture, volunteers are invited to assist other volunteers from the Arizona Elk Society and personnel from Game and Fish and the Forest Service with cutting these young pine trees down, lopping the limbs off, and stacking them into piles so they can be burned by the Forest Service when dried. Due to the remote location, it is suggested that volunteers come up on Friday and camp. The Arizona Elk Society will provide meals for participants on Friday night (dinner), Saturday (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and Sunday (breakfast and lunch). Please bring gloves, long-sleeve shirts, hats, sunscreen, safety glasses and handsaws if you have them. Some items will be provided. Be prepared for cool mornings and rain. Old clothes are recommended. This year’s camp is located in Game Management Unit 5A. Take Highway 87 to milepost 299.8, which is just northeast of the Blue Ridge Ranger Station. Turn south onto Forest Road (FR) 95 and go about 8.5 miles. Turn left onto FR 139 and proceed about 3.8 miles, then turn right on FR 139G. The campsite is about 200 yards from the intersection. A map can be found at www.arizonaelksociety.org. This is primitive camping, however, port-a-johns and wash stations will be on site. Space is available for vehicle, tent and RV camping. If you would like to volunteer, please RSVP at www.arizonaelksociety.org so the Arizona Elk Society can plan meals. For more information, contact Tom Schorr with the Arizona Elk Society at Tomschorr@arizonaelksociety.org or Troy Christensen with the Arizona Game and Fish Department at (623) 236-7492 or tchristensen@azgfd.gov. 20th anniversary Boquillas Ranch cleanup near Seligman, July 28 The Mohave Sportsman Club, in cooperation with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, is hosting the 20th annual cleanup project at the Boquillas Ranch in Unit 10 in northwestern Arizona. This scenic ranch offers some outstanding wildlife habitat, and the one-day volunteer cleanup helps assure that it stays open for hunting and some other types of recreation. Participants will meet at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, at Pica Camp to receive information and supplies (gloves, bags, tools) from the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Pica Camp is located west of Seligman. Take State Route 66 to milepost 123.5, turn north through the gate and go two miles. Volunteers then will use their own vehicles (or carpool) to disperse across the large ranch and search for litter while exploring the area. After spending the day in the field, bring your trash back to Pica Camp where it can be transferred to Game and Fish to haul away. Camping is available at the ranch or you can just come up for the day. Along with cleaning the environment, this cleanup project will help maintain public access on or across private property to public lands, and help maintain good relations between landowners and the public. Note: The Boquillas Ranch does not allow ATVs of any kind. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Don Martin at awoguide@citlink.net, or Troy Christensen, AZGFD Public Access Program Coordinator at (623) 236-7492 or tchristensen@azgfd.gov.
