    Ethical Bow Range

Good advice azslim..... You need to find out how you and your equipment shoot at the various distances and then make a personal determination about what is ethical for you. My comfortable shooting range is up to about 45 yards, but with more practice and perhaps a faster bow, I am confident I could shoot decent groups at longer distances. It's all a matter of how good you are with the equipment you have. Wounding an animal and losing it is one of my worst fears, so I pass on a lot of shots others might take.

+1 I think there are several other videos online about the gutless method, so anyone that is interested in learning it should just search YouTube to learn more.

HB 2072 Sale of big game tags

I truly believe AZSFW will no longer exist after this....Which to me is sad in many regards. I believe very strongly that we need political advocacy for wildlife and hunting related issues. And AZSFW was filling that need. Granted, this bill was a misguided effort and created a huge problem, but the need for an overarching organization fighting for sportsmens issues in AZ still remains. Any of you want to quit your jobs and volunteer full time to lobby on our behalf?

HB 2072 Sale of big game tags

No. I once posted a pic of myself in a leopard skin thong. The traffic collapsed the entire internet. Al Gore had to re-invent it. Jennifer Aniston viewed it like 20,000 times just herself. LOL!! Wow, finally some real humor!! I am not sure about the 10,000 being a record, I will have to go look.

    Good Habitat?

Check out JavelinaHunter.com ....they have a lot of info on bedding areas and such. For prime javelina habitat, I look for a place that has a mix of open grass, mesquite and prickly pear as well as areas with thick brush like jojoba/mesquite/manzanita. Javelina use the more open areas to feed in the sunlight if it's cold out and bed in the thicker areas. For javelina, you don't usually have to start glassing at the crack of dawn. They like for it to warm up before they get active. They are sensitive to cold, so if it's been close to freezing at night, they pigpile in a bed under something a mesquite or in a small cave or scrubby area for warmth. Bedding areas will usually be kind of scuffed up and have a large amount of javelina poop around them. this pig shows a "pig pile" I glassed up a couple years ago in the morning...took them awhile to get moving after the sun got up I would narrow down your glassing areas by finding permenant water sources. Then look for places that have a mix of brushy and open areas within say 1/4 to 1/2 mile of the water source and start glassing there or scout for sign. If there are any areas where there is a green-up of grass or other ground vegetation, they are likely to be feeding there. Look for greening up of grass under mesquites, they like that. Lots of times saddles with grass and mesquite is a good place to glass them up.

HB 2072 Sale of big game tags

What happened to this post? It's no longer in the thread. I was asked to remove it and since I posted it without Chris' permission I obliged and removed it. I think his partners at Elk Hunter Magazine didn't agree with his email and thought he should not have signed it as if it came from the magazine. It apparently doesn't represent the opinion of the majority of partners in the magazine.

HB 2072 Sale of big game tags

This is a huge problem with this bill....I completely agree with everyone on this. It has the appearance of being sneaked by. It didn't have the buy-in needed from sportsmen before trying to get passed. I find it offensive that AZSFW did not at the very least have all the sportsmen's groups review and comment on this prior to being sent to the legislature. I don't know the reasoning for all the big hurry with this and I don't know why Rep Weiers wouldn't see this might cause a problem with such a controversial bill.
