+1 the thicker the brush and trees in the country, the more you have to rely on sitting in a blind or treestand over water or salt or a trail. If you have an open area there, you can try glassing to spot the deer and then try and stalk within shooting range. Hope you get one this year or at least have some close encounters.

What an adventure! Congrats to you and your boy! -
Just this summer I upgraded to the Garmin 62CSX and WOW, it's a great unit. I didn't have topo maps on my GPS before and that really makes things nicer. I love this unit, although it does go through the batteries, but it only takes two AA so I just carry extra with me. I have it most of the time when I am doing the owl surveys, but for hunting I wouldn't have it on so much and the battery life would be fine.

Awesome!! That took some serious dedication! Congratulations!

Jay Lopeman of Mossback AZ sent this in and asked me to post it. WOW! What a bull. Congratulations to Pete Shepley on his new trophy. Although Pete is known world-wide as an archer, he ended up harvesting this bull with a 7mm mag with Barnes bullets. Jay says Pete hunted 63 days in the field and for the most part was hunting with his bow until the end when Jay asked him to carry both a gun and bow. Pete passed on an absolute monster bull on the third day of his hunt at 25 yards. he finally shot this bull toward the last day of his hunt. What a trophy. FYI - Pete won this tag in the Big Game Super Raffle!! (please keep the thread positive....if you want to debate the merits/faults of special commissioners tags, please open another thread for that)

I like your little watering system for the deer....nice that you are making their lives a little easier....do you have any kind of float system or do you just fill that little dish periodically?

I don't consider this to be a forum for bragging, but I do think it's great when everyone shares their hunt stories and pics....it's just fun to "go along" on the hunt with them that way. Same as with seeing shed pics and trail cam pics. You get to share in the excitement that someone had finding those things.

Sonoran Ghost Outfitters is a sponsor here and I wanted to tell you more about them. Chris Jacob is the owner and he is very passionate about hunting Coues deer and extremely successful. He has accumulated an amazing collection of big bucks that he is allowing to be shown at Gila Outdoor in Thatcher. I got to see that display the other day and wanted to share some of those pics with you. Sonoran Ghost Outfitters offers fully-outfitted hunts in Mexico for Coues deer. They provide first-class meals and your price is all-inclusive. This means there are no hidden fees...all your food, lodging, guiding, gun permit, hunting tag, contracts, etc are all included. Chris is highly experienced at getting the paperwork done that is necessary for hunting in Mexico and successfully bringing your trophy back across the border. When Chris wanted to be a sponsor here I got a list of clients that I called and asked questions about his service. They all gave him outstanding marks for his communication skills before, after and during the hunt. This is extremely important when hunting in Mexico because you need to know everything will be taken care of before you cross the border. Chris is great at finding and killing big bucks. Just check out the photogallery on their website...it's well worth a look even if you aren't planning a trip to Mexico. http://www.sonoranghost.com/index.html And here are some of the pics of the bucks I saw that are a part of Chris' collection....I couldn't believe how many really tall tined bucks they have killed! Thanks to Sonoran Ghost Outfitters for being a sponsor here and I encourage any of you that are considering a hunt in Mexico, to check out his website and give him a call. See what kind of amazing hunt he can provide for you this year. Chris Jacob Sonoran Ghost Outfitters http://www.sonoranghost.com/index.html (928) 965-4359
