Brewer Selects Mansell for Commission
CouesWhitetail replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Thanks for posting this. This is the first commissioner to come out of the new "AZ Game and Fish Commission Appointment Recommendation Board" process. This process was pushed for by sportsmen's groups so that sportsmen could have a greater role in recommending commissioners. The new board is made up of sportsmen and other user groups and its job is to assist the Governor in locating and reviewing applicants for the commission. The process worked very well, the board received 73 applicants for the commissioner's position(which I believe is an all-time record for people applying for a commissioner position, normally only a handful apply). They then reviewed all the applicants and narrowed it down to 5, which they then interviewed in a public meeting. Then they narrowed the list to 3 candidates and presented those names to the governor. The Governor then selected Mansell. The legislature still has to approve the Governor's selection. -
USFS Anti Hunting Move

reminds me of the adventure that Tracy had on his archery hunt! http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...c=21348&hl= would the quiet areas in 6a count as "semi-primitive"? They sort of become wilderness areas during the time of year when the gates are locked... -

I get spotted skunks fairly often on trail cam. They are one of my favorite to get since they look so cool. Amazing to get a bobcat with a squirrel!!

Awesome!! Love the solo backpack style hunt!! That is so cool!! I do that for coues but not sure I would do it for elk unless I had a army of packers to come help me once the elk was down. Loved your story, thanks for taking the time to write it up!! 3-4 year old seems like a good guess on age to me.

Want to help De-list the Wolf???
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
more calls are needed! here is the latest release from AZSFWC Please thank Senator McCain for signing on as a co-sponsor of S 3919, Senator Hatch's Wolf Delisting Bill. If passed, the bill will remove the gray wolf from the endangered species list and states will be allowed to manage the wolf going forward. It is important that we show our appreciation when a Senator responds to our requests and Senator McCain has done just that. PLEASE KEEP THE TELEPHONES RINGING IN DC. REPORTS INDICATE THAT WHILE CALLS ARE BEING MADE, WE STILL NEED MORE. Hopefully most of you know by now that the Arizona Game and Fish Commission voted last Saturday to support S 3919 at the recommendation of Terry Johnson, the person who has given several years of his career and is responsible for the wolf recovery program in Arizona. The Obama Administration now has a commitment for its own amendment to get attached to the Omnibus Spending Bill in the Senate. This amendment is bad. It increases the wolf recovery numbers in the Rockies (original number was 100 in each state of Wyoming, Montana and Idaho- they now are saying 500-700 minimum number in Idaho), gives the Interior Department complete authority over wolves with no state participation or input and contains provisions for re-listing if certain conditions are not met. In addition to continuing to advocate for S 3919, we also need to stringently oppose the Obama Administration amendment to the Senate Omnibus Spending bill. Please make phone calls today to the Senators listed below. If you are outside the state of Montana or Arizona, please call the Senators from your state. Call or email Senator Max Baucus and Senator Jon Tester of Montana today. Call Senator Jon Kyl and ask him to sign on to S 3919 and do everything he can to assist us in this effort. Call Senator McCain and thank him for co-sponsoring the bill and for helping to move this bill forward. Senator Jon Kyl 202-224-4521 Jon_Kyl@kyl.senate.gov Senator John McCain 202-224-2235 John_McCain@mccain.senate.gov Senator Max Baucus 202-224-2651 Max_Baucus@baucus.senate.gov Senator Jon Tester 202-224-264 Jon_Tester@tester.senate.gov Thanks for your assistance, Suzanne Gilstrap -
Want to help De-list the Wolf???
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
information from Pete Cimellaro: To All: I am hopeful most of you already know the AZ Game & Fish Commission voted last Saturday to support delisting the Gray Wolf from protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This is all Wolves, including the Mexican Wolf here in Arizona. This action is an attempt to bring about a change in the failed programs that have paralyzed wolf management through out the West. Many states, including Arizona, year after year have had continued problems with the USF&WS, Wolf Advocates, Environmental Extremists, the Media, etc. Western States are seeking a remedy to the problem of Wolf management under the ESA, which unfortunately usually turns to Wolf management by the courts. While Wolf recovery has met, and in some cases, exceeded population targets; the states have had their hands tied by the Wolf Advocates and their use of the court system. This has led to the destruction of some Elk, Deer, and Moose populations and continues to be a problem for wildlife managers. Here in Arizona it has led to a paralyzing stalemate with the program in limbo, without direction and input from the states. In Washington DC, Sportsmen for Wildlife and Big Game Forever have been working diligently to get the ear of the politicians. They have succeeded! S. 3919, is the result of this effort. I strongly urge you to send a message to the Environmental Community, the Animal Rights Extremists, and all of those who want to manage wildlife at the federal level and by the courts. Say no to the abuse of the system and return management of wildlife to the states where it belongs. Support the Arizona Game & Fish Commission, the Wildlife Conservation Organizations and the Wildlife we all cherish. Support S 3919!!! Make Two phone calls today! Call Senator Baucus (202-224-2651) & Senator Tester (202-224-2644) and ask them to join with Senator Kyl, Senator McCain and others to pass S.3919. Do it now, Timing is critical!!!!!! Pete PS: PLEASE PASS THIS ON!!!!!! -
