Holy Cow!! That's an awesome buck!!! Congratulations! sometimes the best times come right after the worst times.... -
+ 1 on the Harris holding up well. Mine has been on my .270 constantly for over 15 years and it hasn't even had so much as a glitch when using it. And I don't remember ever really even cleaning it. It's designed to hold up to hunting conditions. The other thing I love about having my bipod on my gun all the time is that you can easily set your gun down with the legs out and it's a fast and stable way to put the gun down safely. No searching for a tree to lean it against and worrying it will fall.

Duck Recipes --- who has a good one?
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
great story Bill! I ended up doing the ducks two different ways. One was the duck ramaki, which was OUTSTANDING!! And then we also smoked a couple on the grill and then I took those and put them in a crockpot with a can of chili, a can of corn, 1/2 can of pineapple (left over from the duck ramaki recipe), some onions, red peppers, and celery. Had that last night and it was great also! Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. We have another package of ducks in the freezer so I will be experimenting some more with those. -
Oh and Harold asked me to post this pic that he made too

from Lark: Got a chance to hunt elk in unit 1 with my aunt, Georgetta Hughes, from safford. Her husband has pneumonia and had to stay home so her little brother, Leroy, came along. Didn’t see a lot the first couple days. did see a bunch of 18 bulls at sundown the first day and figured they would be there the next morning, but never found em. Just saw a few spikes and a lot of cows the second day. changed tactics and dropped down quite low Sunday. Started near the big burn that just took place up there. Saw a big bunch of cows and a couple dink bulls, but she didn’t want anything to do with them. Moved to a little different area that held a lot of bulls last year and jumped a good sized bunch but could never put horns on anything in the jack pines. Moved on around the knoll and jumped 2 young 6x6’s. got them to stop by making a bunch of noise and she got a shot and hit one. hit it really low in the lungs. He bled a lot but we had to trail him for over a mile up and around the knoll in a blizzard in the jackpines. Had to stay on him so it didn’t snow out the trail. Our lungs were burnin’ when we finally spotted him in really thick trees. She made toothpicks out of several trees before she finally snaked an ’06 bullet through and dropped him. A good time was had by all. This is her 9th bull elk. She also shot a very good pronghorn in unit 1 earlier this year. 73 and still hittin’ it. I don’t even try to keep up with her, just hope I can keep her in sight. I’m headed out again today to see if I can be of help to my youngest son, Bridger, on his elk hunt. Later, Lark.

Neat idea Craig. But you are missing most of the outfitters and taxidermists and even retailers that sponsor this website. You can find them by looking at the button ads on the right hand margin of the main page: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/ If you click on the buttons it will take you to their home page with contact info. Do you require that businesses pay to be listed in your Guide?

Great job!!

You did it right Knifeboy! I didn't realize the comment area on the donation asked what kind of sticker you wanted. Maybe I will go edit that. But the way you did it is fine and thank you for your generosity!

a great sleeping bag and sleeping pad are essential. I use a Montbell down sleeping bag that keeps me toasty. It packs small and is lightweight but rated to 0 degrees. If it's extra cold out, I have a sleeping bag liner that I can put inside the bag for 10 more degrees warmth or so. I use a small thermarest sleeping pad. I suggest a small titanium pot for heating water and a small plastic cup for putting coffee, tea or hot chocolate in. It's a real treat to drink something warm when you are out in the cold. I love my backpacking stove, it's super lightweight and heats fast. I have a big agnes backpack tent, but I usually just take my bivy sack, it's lightweight and great protection from wind/rain while in your sleeping bag. Even if you have a warm sleeping bag, if it's not windproof (most are not) and you have wind blowing all night, you can get cold, so I like the extra layer of the bivy sack. I have a rather old water filter, that works great, but I bet they make smaller ones now. +1 on wilderness athlete products. They provide high-quality energy. Instead of taking a pillow, take a stuff sack with extra clothes to use as a pillow. That way it serves two purposes. remember to take chapstick and sunscreen....that much time outside and your lips and skin will suffer without some protection. +1 on the vasoline cotton balls +1 on extra light source and fire starters some of my gear: my tent on left......sleeping bag and therma rest on right side of the 12 inch ruler showing size
