They looked like shorter, stockier gambels with pale top knots. Like this maybe? http://worldbirds.eu/album1/Elegant_quail.jpg EBB Sort of like that one, but a much whiter top knot. Perhaps they were scaled, but they seemed to have more of a top knot shaped like a Gambels than a tuft like a regular scaled quail. It was dark out and they were running in the road in our headlights.

I saw some quail in 36a that looked like half scaled and half gambels this past weekend. I still am not sure what they were! Actually they looked more like 3/4 scale and 1/4 gambels.

I slept in a tent with the heaters on all night on my javelina hunt since I was sharing a tent and they kept it very warm...really nice! I lived to tell about it It is supposed to be safe, but I was a bit tense about it, but he said he did it all the time. I like the idea of adding CO2 sensors for more security.
