That's a bummer for sure. I would (and have) just go pursue the elk anyway and hope you guys beat them to the elk or that you just end up in a better situation for a shot than they will. If it was convenient I would go talk to them and try and come up with plans that don't conflict. But really how do you know they just stopped because you were there? How do you know they didn't hear the elk in the area previously and planned to go listen there in the morning? And was it another youth hunter?

Thanks for all the kind replies! I had a great hunt and am looking forward to resting my tired legs for a bit! After getting my buck, we backpacked in after a big buck Scott saw, but we really only had one morning up there and it was blowing like crazy so the big boy didn't show himself, so Scott and Trent came home empty-handed. But we had a great time and made some great memories! I will write up the story of the hunt soon and share it soon. Amanda

Thanks everyone. I am typing this from my sleeping bag on a big mtn. We climbed 2000 ft to get to this spot. We saw scotts big buck this morning, but too far to get to on time. Only a small buck showed itself this evening. Tomorrow is the big day....hopefully I will have pics of a great buck to share.

I was out handing out some Prop 109 stickers and signs when I saw a truck on a lift at C&M service station. The truck had a CW.com sticker in the back window and I went over to introduce myself. Got to meet Shawn Cole (sp?) who unfortunately was having some AC troubles. Luckily they stopped at a great service station and they were being taken care of. They may have stopped giving out the lion tags with the big game tags. Used to be included, but sounds like you are out of luck. If they are not included, then like they told you, you have to buy a lion tag and then pay a daily fee to hunt. When were you told that your deer tag included a lion tag and was it by a SC Dept employee? As Coach alluded to, things can change fast out there and you can hear different things from different people. You might call again and ask.... or check their website for regulation info. They might have a notice on there about the change in tags.
