Capturing Great Mountain Lion Photos with Trail Cameras
CouesWhitetail replied to Healy Arms's topic in Mountain Lion
That is a bizarre photo Beto! It does look like a small lion, but it also looks like it has black tips on the ears which suggests it's actually a bobcat. Either way...what are they doing hanging out with the deer? How many other pictures like that have you gotten? -
Good luck to you tagholders!

Capturing Great Mountain Lion Photos with Trail Cameras
CouesWhitetail replied to Healy Arms's topic in Mountain Lion
Wildlife Callers....That nighttime lion is awesome looking!! Holy cow, it's just pure muscle and like you said a 4 legged deer-killing machine! Thanks for sharing the pics and tips on attracting lions with scat. I wonder if they stop for other scat like bobcat scat? -
That was on a backpack hunt where I was alone and hiking back out to get more food and supplies. I was desperately exhausted and not feeling very good. But I saw that sunset and was duly impressed!! I was trying to hike out before dark and took a "shortcut" (which of course was longer and harder than the original way)....but at least I got to see that sunset!

Are you trying spot and stalk or are you sitting in a stand or blind? Don't forget your release or your tag/license are good tips!! that's easy to do!

I hate to see someone quit what they love based on the behavior of some rude people.....I can say that most of the people I hunt with are sportsmen and most would go out of their way to help other hunters. But one good way to avoid other hunters is to do backpack hunts! Maybe that would rekindle your love for the hunt? Get away from it all and see all kinds of wonderful things in the outdoors....

hehehe, yeah, it wasn't supposed to rain or snow and so we didn't pack a tent in on that hunt. Of course it rained and snowed and made for a very memorable night. It's one of those times that is a lot more fun when you remember it than when you are in it!!

I agree, there are so many great memories made during a hunt and many of them don't involve the actual harvest. Some pics that hold some great hunting memories for me....

Yeah!! Good news!! I was wondering if he was on his way home yet! That's awesome!

I know many of you are serving currently or have a son or daughter in the military right now. I put up a banner ad to remind people to support our troops. I have linked that banner ad to the nonprofit group called Packages from Home which is a PHX based group that sends tons of care packages to our troops. I would like to use some photos of your loved ones who are in the military on the banner ad, so if you would like to see them up on a banner ad in this forum, email the photo to me and I will see what I can do. I think it will be a nice way to personalize the banner and keep reminding people that these are very special men and women that are serving in the military and their sacrifice comes at great cost to them and their families. So even if you don't want them in a banner ad, please feel free to post a photo of them here in this thread. amanda@coueswhitetail.com

Look no further than town this weekend
CouesWhitetail replied to youngbuck's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
that is definitely a great muley!! My hope is that he doesn't get poached.... -
I usually just completely debone the buck. Just have a bunch of game bags (or some use something like a pillow case) with you and you can remove all the meat from the carcass without packing out any bones (except the head/antlers). I have packed them out just a whole deer (gutted) before when I didn't have time to bone it out, but it made for a tough hike out with all my gear and the whole deer. Coues are nice and small and when you debone them it really makes it nice for packing out. And when you debone it, much of the processing work is already done so you can just cut it up and package it at home if you like.

Hey All, Just thought I would let you know that my recovery has progressed enough that I am actually able to work (at my home office) again! Sure feels good not to be in pain anymore. The holes from surgery haven't finished healing yet and the full recovery of the muscles they cut won't happen for another 5 weeks or so, but at least I have energy again and I am not all looped up on pain meds! I am not strong enough to go hunting this weekend, but hopefully in another week or so I will be able to pull my bow back without my insides hurting! Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes....I appreciate it! Amanda
