Hope you and your Dad have a great time! It should be a great game regardless of the outcome. You just need to get ahold of some good ole Wisconsin cheese curds to go with the Brats! You are sooooo right!! Amanda

San Carlos Squirrels
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
A couple of years ago I introduced some of my lady hunting friends to squirrel hunting on San Carlos. Since then we try and get out every year. This year it was just Barbara and I, but we had a blast. The weather was awesome and we had elk bugling around camp. Can life get better than enjoying a campfire-cooked ribeye while listening to elk bugling in the moonlit forest? Nice! Woke up to cloudy conditions and a really neat fog rolling in the forest. I really love fog!! It's always nice to see and smell the woods in the moist air. The multitude of flowers blooming throughout the forest added lots of color. Anyway, we got into the squirrels and took several home. Also saw lots of turkey, some mearns quail and some mule deer while we were out. Thanks Barbara for making this trip happen this year! You are one adventurous lady! The squirrels were large and had GORGEOUS coats. Some pics: -

I think they will take them sooner if you explain why. I am planning to drop some off at the Mesa AGFD tomorrow since I won't be around on the 13th. If AGFD won't take them early, I know Eddy will. Call him 480-529-8340 Amanda -

I haven't tried them yet, but they smell piney and they were spending most of their time in the tops of trees chewing on pine cones. Amanda -
Wow, that sure is a GREAT trip!!! Congrats! Amanda

Very funny Clay!! Amanda -
Looks like nail marks above the center two toes, which tends to rule out Mtn lion. Sometimes dogs in mud will mush together and appear rounder than normal and more like a lion track. Amanda

Guess the Score - Sept 09

Hehehe, I will get it up later tonight or early tomorrow. I need to make sure I enter everyone into my little spreadsheet so I can determine the winners. And I want to figure out which prizes I am giving to who before I post. Thanks for your patience!! I thought I was going to be home this weekend to take care of this, but the squirrels were calling Amanda -
Congrats on a fine antelope! funny you mention the cows surrounding your truck. I once worked on a wildlife project where I was doing some radio telemetry. In this one area, whenever I left the vehicle, there was a horse that would come over and mess with my truck. One time he tore off a windshield wiper arm! Guess he didn't like having my truck there. San Carlos Squirrels

Barbara kept a few pelts, but I didn't keep mine. I certainly would have if I had known you wanted some GH. You want them for a full body mount (ie do they have to be perfectly skinned?) or do you want just some peices? Let me know and I can save you some next time. Amanda I was thinking some to use as doilies for now and then maybe next year when funds are better I will get out and get a few for mounts. so, does that mean just back peices would work or do you want everything (feet, tail, face and all)? -

You are right, he was huge!! This pic shows it a little better because the sun is hitting it. He was chasing a smaller female squirrel around and around a tree. It was the last thing he did.... Amanda -
