Hi All, I am very excited to show you Jason Lewis' (aka Foundryman) latest donation to CouesWhitetail.com. It's a beautiful bronze that he created for the Coues Buck contest. It's a non-typical whitetail set on a full-size shed antler made of bronze. And all that is on a very beautiful walnut base. I can't say enough about Jason and his generosity to this site. Sorry the picture isn't great, but with the rainy weather, I had to take the photo inside and the lighting was poor. The bronze is about 14 inches tall and 13 inches wide. Wow, someone is sure gonna love it!! THANK YOU JASON!!! I know you had a lot going on this year and I know we appreciate the time and talent you put into this piece!! Amanda

Jason Lewis Bronze for Coues Contest

Maybe I should. It will depend on when we announce the results of the Coues contest and when the winner wants the bronze. If I can bring it, I will! Amanda -
Hunting with Muzzle Brakes
CouesWhitetail replied to Lucky One's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I bought custom earplugs years ago at a show, and I always wear both the plugs and ear muffs when I target shoot. However, I frequently have not had protection in my ears when shooting at game. One thing I have thought of getting to make it more likely for me to use protection during hunting situations is to get those orange ones that the Jay Scott and crew use in the Extreme Coues video. The plugs are connected together and hang around your neck like a stethoscope so it takes only a second to put them in place. Mine are connected by a string and when I wear them around my neck sometimes they slip off and I worry I will loose them. Amanda -

Wow, that is interesting. I just spoke with Harold (the dept director) yesterday afternoon and he said the commission had not made any decisions yet. Amanda -
Jason Lewis Bronze for Coues Contest
CouesWhitetail replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Contests and Giveaways!
I just got off the phone with Jason and asked him about the bronze sheds. He says he doesn't know when he will have time to make them. But he says he is still going to do it. So....I guess there is nothing to do but wait patiently for the artist to find the time! On another note, Jason is getting much more widely known through all his donations to this site and the sportsmen's banquets and such. Representative Jerry Weiers helped get Jason a contract with the State of AZ to do a bronze war memorial. That memorial was dedicated this past weekend and is at the state capitol. Jason is supposed to email me some pics when his mother-in-law gets them to me. Apparently it's a plaque and a Vietnam Vet in bronze. If you go the AZ state capitol building the memorial is right in front by the flagpole. Amanda -

Since I realize some of you might actually not take a break from work for this contest, after the first 12 winners are chosen, I will place the rest of the people with correct answers in a random drawing for 5 more tshirts or videos of your choosing (one video or tshirt per winner). Deadline to submit answers will be Monday the 23rd 5 pm. Amanda P.S. For those wondering, I will assign everyone after the first 12 a number and then use a random number table to select 5 people at random for the remaining prizes. -
Thanks Dick! Amanda

here are the questions. HAVE FUN!!!! PLEASE EMAIL ME THE ANSWERS AND DO NOT POST THEM IN THIS THREAD! You can post general comments about the contest in this thread, just not the answers. amanda@coueswhitetail.com All the answers are found on CouesWhitetail.com, just go to the main page of www.coueswhitetail.com and check out the sections on the menu system on the left hand side of the page. You should be able to narrow down the section where the answer will be based on the questions. It shouldn't take too long to get the anwers. Just open two windows, one for this thread and one for the main CW site and you can toggle back and forth to read the questions and find the answers. Write them down and then email them to me. CW.com treasure hunt questions 1. How did the deer appear from the tangle of oak in Jeff Falls’ poem about Coues deer? 2. Who is listed as the person to contact in NM for information on hunting Coues Deer in NM? 3. When is the peak of antler shedding for Coues based on the graph of life stages from AGFD in the life stages section? 4. According to the table in the shot placement section, what is the amount of drop in inches of a 130 grain .270 bullet at 400 yards for a bullet fired at a 30 degree trajectory? 5. What is the name of a recipe from the venison recipe page that has cumin in it? 6. Is the metatarsal gland longer on a Coues Deer or a Mule Deer? 7. LOL!!!! Both my husband and I got a laugh out of that one! Thank God my husband is a gentleman and will always take the worst gear we have and leave me with the best stuff!! His feet and lower legs got soaked overnight in that tube tent since it doesn't close on the ends. But he was planning to just hike out in the morning while I went hunting with a friend. But what great memories! We used to use a tarp tied to trees or rocks and use a large blue nylon boat cover that he found on the side of the highway as a floor to keep us clean and dry from ground moisture. That worked fine except when it was really windy and rainy because it would come in the sides. And it was much heavier than my big agnes tent which we upgraded to. But still it was great to be backpacking using stuff found on the side of the highway! My husband is a real scrounge (sp?) and most of our tools and such come from the side of the highway. Thanks for the "pass the hat idea" (he thought that was hilarious), but he would NEVER spend it on himself. But hey, since I manage our bank accounts, maybe I would get more gear!! Amanda

Wow, can't believe I haven't seen that tree. Is it visible from the 191 or do you have to take a side road? Amanda

That's the buck that won you that neat bronze coues deer that Jason made for last year's coues contest, right? here is the field pic:

Gamehauler, Here at CouesWhitetail.com we pride ourselves on quick answers to questions. You made him wait like 4 hrs to get a response....geez, what kind of service is that? And what do I pay you the big bucks for if not to be the resident RV expert?? Seriously though, thanks for offering to help! Amanda

Has anyone else ever wondered???

My guess is unit 14 is where one of the Indian Reservations are, kind of like unit 26 is/was San Carlos. Amanda
