WY mgmt mule deer hunt or take a good WT
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Hi All, I have a friend who is looking for someone to go on a hunt with him at a really nice ranch in WY. His friend that was planning to go along lost his job and can't afford to go now. So this is a 2 on 1 hunt for a mgmt mulie (they still take some very nice ones on the mgmt hunt) or you can shoot the biggest Whitetail you can find. It would be for next November, but they have to know soon. So PM or email me for more info if you are interested. Sounds like it's a great ranch with excellent lodging and food. Amanda -
Hi All, A new bowhunting video by Duwane Adams is now available in the CouesWhitetail.com bookstore. The video is a mix of video from/with Duwane and also a TV show segment that shows some kills. Duwane shares tips he has learned on how to be a more successful bowhunter. He is a big fan of sitting a blind rather than doing spot and stalk. However, there is some video of a spot and stalk hunt. The video is about 45 mins long and shows some nice bucks. http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/hunting_videos.htm Amanda

Aplications & the Economy
CouesWhitetail replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Although I made about 1/2 as much income last year as previous years, I always make hunting a priority and so when I cut back on spending it's not on resident tags. So my applications were the same as always. Amanda -
Gamehauler.....where are you??? Don't tell me you are actually working rather than checking this forum!! Someone needs your help, get your butt over here!

When I don't bother with a tent (as on most of my backpack hunting trips), I just use a bivy sack. you can see my red bivy sack on the right in these photos. Not the best for bad weather, but it kept me dry. My poor hubby was wrapped in a crappy orange tube tent and it didn't work so well. my little stove was able to make some warm drinks for us in the morning. Thank goodness! I have been camped out in like 16 degrees and had issues with the stove. But seems like above 20 it's fine.

I have the Big Agnes Seedhouse SL tent and love it. I have the Montbell Ultra Light Down Hugger rated to 0 degrees (weighs 2lbs 8 oz). I LOVE that bag. I get cold easy and this bag is the first one to keep me warm in most any condition in AZ. I also got their "warm-up" sheet which is an insert bag to add warmth to any sleeping bag. It does help a lot but I usually don't need it. I use a therma rest inflatable pad for sleeping on. I use a really small primus stove and tiny propane canisters for it. They usually last me a few days. My backpack is my dad's old external frame boyscout pack. I love it! It carries the weight easily for me and it's super lightweight. I have yet to find a backpack I like better. Don't know what I will do if something breaks on this one! Amanda Tent on left, sleeping bag and pad on right. Ruler in middle for scale. closeup of stove:

CouesWhitetail replied to wardsoutfitters's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Sounds fun! Got any info on dates, accomodations, etc? Also, you posted this in the bowhunting section. Is this for bowhunters only or would it be better to move this post to the Mexico Hunting area of the forum? Amanda -
Thanks for letting us know and have a great vacation!! Amanda

Nice deer animation Clay! Maybe you should take a pic of the buck on your dashboard and post it in the forum? Amanda

Burger house is in Miami along the main road through to Globe. It's a little hard to spot. Maybe Clay has a suggestion on finding it? Amanda

Burger house burros are to die for!! I actually made an attempt at recreating them to take on my elk hunt this year. Chef was on the hunt with me and without even knowing that I was trying for that, he said, Wow, these taste like the burros at Burger House!! Woo-hoo! They were yummy!! I hope Dewane at AGFD brings me luck today too!! Maybe he will be wearing his CW.com shirt today!! He has a Grong orange one, no wonder he is lucky! Amanda

Very nice snowstorm here last night. When I went to bed late last night I thought, why is the sky orange outside and wondered if there was a fire at my neighbors house. I looked outside and it was a blizzard and already had an inch of snow on the ground. It was just the orange lights around here reflecting off the snow making a strange glow outside. Some pics from my house this morning:

Year of the Mearns is over
CouesWhitetail replied to IHunt2live's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Great pics, thanks for posting! Hey, maybe you need to find some mearns spots that aren't down south with the dope dealers and many hunters. The San Carlos Reservation comes to mind as well as unit 27. Amanda -
Gorgeous pics Doug!! I like the first one best! Amanda

Somehow I missed this topic. Interesting one. Wildlife watching/camping is a choice I would have added, but I see you already had lots of choices. I picked nature photography and geocaching. I haven't done a ton of geocaching, but I have enjoyed what I have done. Found four caches and placed a new one this past weekend while teaching some ladies how to geocache in a weekend workshop. I suppose some of my "other" would be trail cameras, shed hunting, scouting new spots etc. AZP&Y, I like your annual goal! Amanda

My guess would be yes, but I don't know for sure. I am dropping mine off tomorrow at the Mesa office. Maybe I can pick yours up and drop it off for you if you live around there. Amanda

No snow here in Globe, but took the dogs (and husband) for a walk yesterday evening and went north of town to go play in the snow. There were a few inches up by Timber Camp. The dogs loved playing in it!! And as we headed back toward the truck it started snowing pretty heavy. Was beautiful to be out in. The snow had that nice crunch to it and the flakes were falling thick out of a very gray sky. Didn't have my camera with me and was regretting it. Thanks for the pic Gamehauler!! Amanda

Sportsmanswarehouse going out of business?
CouesWhitetail replied to hawkeye's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Not a problem Hawkeye. It's always useful to get feedback on sponsors, good and bad. I usually forward links to threads with customer feedback like this to SW. In this case, they will be able to see for themselves that they are losing customers. Used to be only good things were said of SW on this site. Sounds like changes in the store are making it hard on everyone. I have had trouble getting reloading supplies there, so I got them online through Cabela's. It's sad when we try and give SW business and they don't have the supplies to take our money. Amanda -
When does the San Carlos start selling tags?
CouesWhitetail replied to RoughCut's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Gino, They must be a registered guide. To get registered with the SCRWD they have to take the guide course. For a list of guides, visit the SCRWD website: http://www.scatrwd.com/ Amanda -
