Walked up on a lion yesterday

Is dinner served to you yet? hope hubby can take his apron off by 7:00 Pm Just kidding Very Cool to be within 20yds of a live lion. Thanks for sharing with us. You the WOman Hehehehe....the lion really wasn't intimidating at all. It was just scared and trying to move away. Not threatening at all. Even if it had pulled free it wouldn't have come at me. Amanda

Walked up on a lion yesterday

I was probably 20 yards or less from it. If I got closer it thrashed around and tried harder to get away. So I tried to get as close as I could without stressing it out too much so I could get some decent video and pics. For pics I really wish it would have let me get closer. For video it was ok. You can hear him/her breathing on the tape at times, so it's fairly close. Amanda

anyone else unable to view the video? It's a higher resolution wmv file so it might just be taking awhile to download? It works when I click on it, but takes awhile. Amanda

Walked up on a lion yesterday

Trapping is legal on San Carlos and they have the reservation divided into trapping units. I don't know the trapper for the unit, but my guess is it's just one of his many traps set around the area. This trap was very close to a fairly well used parking/picnic area along a creek. I have walked through that little trail many times. Wonder how many times a trap was nearly stepped on! TJ, I understand what you mean. I was thinking about whether I could shoot that lion. I would have a really hard time with it because the animal is scared to death and just trying to get away. Seems very different than spot and stalk type hunting where the animal is unaware of your presence. Amanda

    New Guy Here!

Welcome to the forum and wow, it's neat to see a young person with some serious goals! Good luck on all your hunts! As has been said, there are plenty of great backpack hunting places in AZ. Take a look at the wilderness areas in the US Forest Services lands around the state. And really it doesn't even have to be a designated wilderness to get away from people. Just look for areas a couple miles from a road and you are good to go. Amanda
