Hi All, I added three new videos to the store today. They are all by the AZ production company, Northstar Productions. you can watch the trailers on their website: http://www.northstarvideopro.com/ There is a special deal going on right now, actually it's kind of two special deals. First is that they are offering the videos at a low introductory price until Aug 1. So you can buy them individually for $15 each. Or the other deal is that you can buy all three videos for $40. To buy them, visit the bookstore: http://www.coueswhitetail.com/bookstore/hunting_videos.htm Amanda

You should post that pic of your sheds in the "microsheds" thread in the shed hunting forum. It's a pinned thread there with some interesting pics of the smallest sheds people have found. Amanda -
Way to go Danny!! Great to see you were able to get the kids out hunting. What an amazing experience and memories for them. Congratulations to them both. Tell Alex I am jealous of her kudu! I think those are some great looking animals. Amanda

There are three factors that strongly influence antler development: age, nutrition, and genetics. In a poor nutrition year I think you will see most yearlings be spikes, it doesn't mean they are inferior, just that there wasn't a lot of rainfall the year they were born. I don't think you can fairly say absolutely that a spike buck is an inferior buck that won't grow large antlers later in life. I emailed Jim H. to see what he can add to this. That link Red Rabbit provided gives a lot of info about this. Check it out. Amanda

My husband and I were out in Aravaipa and Turkey Creek the other day. We hadn't ever spent much time out on that side (Klondyke side). Gorgeous country with lots of big trees and water and cliff formations. We camped in Turkey Creek and no one else was in there. Nice! Some Aravaipa scenery: On the way in you go by some houses and one of them has some great artwork out for people to enjoy. Anyone know the guy that makes these? We camped in Turkey creek which is a side canyon off Aravaipa at the edge of the wilderness boundary. Neat canyon! here is a giant grapevine and old corral where we camped: We did some hiking up Oak Grove Canyon as well and that is an impressive place. Surprising amount of water and trees in there. And the cliff scenery is spectacular. Hard to get the scale right here, but the boulders are car sized in this pic: We saw a fair amount of wildlife including a single coati, a group of javelina, some turkeys, a single tiny, baby skunk and a deer. Saw bear sign, but no bear. Can you find the deer??? Didn't get pics of much of the wildlife, but a few of the smaller creatures were the canyon treefrog, colorado river toad and this giant water beetle eating a hapless insect. The dogs of course loved the trip and the water. Found some very deep pools! And if anyone is looking for a business to run in the middle of nowhere, the old Klondyke store is for sale. Price reduced!! And here are some pics of an old adobe building we saw.

Julie is good at finding sheds!
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Hi All, As a biologist, I do a lot of fieldwork and I have been taking my dogs with me (Julie and Molly). Julie is the new, young dog that I got several months ago. Anyway, she has pleasantly surprised me with her skull/antler/bone finding abilities! This shed she didn't find, but she likes to play with at home: here is one of the first things she found on a walk with me. It's a gray fox skull. Looks like someone shot it in the top of the head and left it out there. here is a WT deer leg bone she found in the Pinals. She ran along with it in her mouth for quite some time. She was thrilled. We were up there recently and though it's a couple months later, she still goes and picks it up when we are there. And here is a WT skull she found during a night hike: And just the other day she ran up to us with this nice WT antler in the Catalinas. I was so proud of her!! I think this must be from one of the bucks that were on that video I made from all the trail cam pics up there. And here is an elk shed she found on the San Carlos. We tried to encourage her to carrying it along but she wouldn't carry it too far. But at least she found it! Those of you that went to the Marshall Lake campout saw Julie with her elk leg bone that she was so proud to show everyone. And she recently found a WT doe skull that I didn't get a pic of either. She also found a coyote carcass. anyway, you guys got any pics of your dogs and what they have found this summer? Julie has definitely showed more interest and ability in finding and retrieving interesting stuff than my other dogs have. We try to make a big fuss whenever she finds something so that hopefully she will continue to do so. Amanda -

Very cool Amanda! That is neat that Julie finds so many things with you and is able to accompany you so often. I've lost track of how many actual bones my dog Ranger has found and brought over to me. He found this antler when we were out over fourth of July weekend. Please forgive him that it is from a mule deer... Ron Nice! I was hoping someone would have some similar stories/pics to share! Well, as tempting as that offer is Lark, I think I will stick with Julie. But what are some of Bean's "wonder" characteristics? I bet that burro is quite the character. Amanda -

She probably had a sister. I guess it was a local breeder that she came from. Believe it or not, I ended up with her because the guy that bought her said she flunked hunting school!!! The only problem with this dog is that she seems to have no fear of anything. The other day she leaped off a 15 foot cliff. Scared me to death, but she survived fine. She has also run full speed into barbed wire fences and suffered no damage. I was actually thinking the other day when she was up on some cliff wall that she and ol' Hap would be good hunting buddies if they spent time chasing lions together! She is fearless and loves cliffs for some reason. She seems to think in 3D more than any other dog I know. I was picturing that time when Hap had that lion cornered and he was way out on that ledge. For those of you that don't know Hap, it's a great lion dog (owned by Josh's dad I believe). here is the pic of him cornering that lion on the ledge. here is something she found yesterday. It's a rock squirrel that has been turned inside out and devoured by something. It's not as nice as an antler, but you just never know what she will find. -

Yes, she is doing good! But here is a mulie rack she walked within a couple feet of and didn't acknowledge. But this thing has been there for probably a decade, so little to no scent left on it. Same as some nearby bear bones. Amanda -
