I went through the "sticky's" (ie, pinned topics) and many had recent posts on them from this summer. So I picked ones that weren't active and unpinned, but apparently I somehow unpinned everything? So now I don't see any pinned topics. I am sure someone will get upset about losing their favorite pinned topic. But anyway, can you check and see if you see any pinned topics in the campfire now?

It must have, but I don't think most people pay any attention to their post count. It likely had the most impact on those who have been here the longest. I imagine mine changed a bunch, but I never track it, so I don't know. Wish I had. If I had to guess, I would have guessed my post count was around 16K, but now it's 14,535.

When you reply to a post, look for the row of icons that let you format the text like the B for bolding and I for italics. About the middle of that row is a smiley face icon. click on that and the emojis show up. πŸ€‘πŸ€©πŸ‘ΏπŸ€  I agree it would be nice if they were a little larger. Maybe I can change that.

Can you be more specific about what problem you encounter on your phone? I did notice that it was hard to find the unread content button on the default skin. So I took a photo. Look for the the button that looks like a piece of paper in the row of icons just above the coueswhitetail banner. ...click on it and it will list the unread content. Then you should be able to navigate just as you do on your desktop. Let me know if you have other issues. You might also try a different skin (aka theme) when you are on the phone and see if you like it better. If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the forum you can click on theme dropdown menu and select a different theme.

I changed the default setting for the Unread content button to include everything rather than only unread content since so many people seem to want the read content to stay in the list. So test it out and see if it works for you. It should show read content as greyed out and unread as bolded and if you want to go to the first unread post in a thread, just click the black dot next to the topic.

Fyi, I went ahead and made changes to the Unread Content stream so that is shows the greyed out topics that you have already read. But it shows the unread content as bolded and if you click on the black dot next to the topic, it takes you to the first unread post in the thread. See if that works for you all. This way you shouldn't have to edit the settings yourself. I don't know if you prefer expanded or condensed setting, but I figured condensed is easier to scroll through things. If you like the expanded setting, you can just click on expanded and it will change.

fyi, there is also a couple buttons that control how much of each post is displayed when you hit unread content the buttons say Condensed and Expanded and are located on the right hand side just above the new content listing. you choose one or the other and it shows more or less content in your new content feed.

Sorry, I forgot to reply to your question awhile back. I asked tech support about the post count and they said the new count is 100% accurate for what is currently in the community. They said the difference is likely due to errors that build up over time in the old version of the software. So the new software displays post count correctly.

There are numerous settings that you can control to change what is displayed when you hit Unread Content. I think the way to keep topics from disappearing once you open them is to change one of the settings to show Everything rather than showing unread content. Click on Unread content, then look for the dropdown menu that says Read Status and change it to Everything (see screen shot below). You can also choose if the unread item links to top of the page or to the first unread comment (see screen shot below). I just tested out the change in the setting and it showed the greyed out topics that I already viewed as well as the unread ones. Perhaps that's what you are looking for? Also there is a setting for how many days you want it to report content from.....since last visit, past 365 days, or some other custom choice.

people selling hunting spots on line....your thoughts

That's idiotic. I haven't even read your posts until just now, so how would I even have disagreed with them? There is no way for me to make the like button show for some and not for others. I am able to like all your posts as can anyone else. You probably see the like icon in the post that I liked because I liked it. When someone likes your posts it will show that they liked it.

people selling hunting spots on line....your thoughts

Dude, it's the same for everyone. You don't see a like button on your own posts because the system doesn't let you like your own posts. So when I post, I don't see a like button for my posts either. It's the same for everyone. I see a like button for your posts and I am sure everyone else does too. So people can like your posts.

What are you talking about? What do you think is manipulative and why do you keep typing liked:Coueswhitetail in all your posts?

    Playing Possum?

Yes indeed!! I always learn something when I talk to him! He is a real asset to AGFD and has a wealth of knowledge about the natural history of so many species in AZ.

    Playing Possum?

Randy Babb of AGFD is very interested in any location data on opossums in AZ. You can email him info at rbabb@azgfd.gov He co-wrote a paper about the current distribution of the native subspecies. I attached the paper here for those that are interested. and here is a graphic from the paper that shows how to tell them apart. Babb, Brown, Childs Status of Opossum in AZ.pdf

here is one we saw at night hiking out after an owl survey. This was in Pena Blanca Canyon.

    Playing Possum?

Pine Donkey, I shared your photo with a AGFD biologist who has researched opossum in AZ and he says the road kill you found is one of the native opossums, which is a subspecies of the possum found in the rest of the country. The native one is called the Sonoran Opossum or Mexican Opossum and actually AGFD is interested in the location. And if it's not too smelly already, they are interested in getting the specimen. I will PM you about it.

    Notifications POP UP

I haven't seen a popup for notifications, but if you click on the notifications icon in upper right, then click on Notification Settings in upper right of that box, then you can see some options regarding notifications and I believe one deals with popups for private messages.

    Playing Possum?

Another interesting thing about opossum in Arizona.....many of you remember Jim White who made many great products for hunting, including his famed tripod head. Well, I remember Jim telling me that his grandfather released non-native opossums in many locations in Arizona. Apparently he just thought they were neat animals and so he captured them in Arkansas and released them in Arizona. I have seen that information in research publications about opossums in Arizona too. So there is a mix of native and non-native opossums in Arizona.

    Playing Possum?

Fyi, there is a native subspecies of opossum in southern AZ. It is darker than the opossum seen in the rest of the US. I have found the native ones in the Pajaritos and Santa Ritas. I attached a pic of a native one that we saw roadkilled on the way up Mt Hopkins.

    Forum software upgrade

Some of you may have noticed the forum was down this morning due to a major upgrade in the software that has been a long time coming. Anyway, the software upgrade is complete. I am going to be working on installing a custom skin and generally customizing the layout today. Let me know if you have any problems. Thanks for your patience. Amanda

    Forum software upgrade

I don't think that should be the case, but I can ask tech support if that's possible and why it might occur.

    Forum software upgrade

I think it's just a count of reactions to your post...so if someone clicks like on your post, I think that's one point. The reputation system was introduced by the software company many years ago. When it was first introduced, you might remember, it used to have a plus and a minus button. Some people tended to abuse the minus button so fortunately the software company made it so a community could have only a positive vote for a post. With this new software, if someone clicks like, or love, or other reactions, it's a positive point.
