Triple Crown of Western Shed Hunting
PackerMenges replied to Jimmer Negamanee's topic in Shed Hunting
Cool topic. I actually just completed this challenge unknowingly a couple weeks ago for the year. What about antelope sheaths? Obviously they are not antlers but I think finding those are the biggest challenge of them all. -
I think we all knew this was coming but now that it is here it certainly causes an inner debate in myself. Here are my thoughts: Pros: Could be great for handicapped or debilitated hunters. Could potentially eliminate or greatly reduce the chances of just wounding an animal (depending on how it works). Could be a great system for first time hunters, or those who get a bad case of "buck fever" Depending on how you look at the situation, gives the old school guys that much more pride and if the system fails you better believe whoever is using the system will wish they had just learned it the old school way. Money Saver (depending on how much this system is going to cost...) Cons: Fair chase is tricky, this blurs the line for sure. Could potentially become required if animal rights groups get ahold of it (in the name of humane taking of game), no one wants another law. Eliminates a ton of excitement, preparation, and true skill. Could become reckless if the system fails. This reminds me of the other article I read today about the "James Bond" type weapon recognition system, just too much technology and if it all comes crashing down, what are we left with? In this case a bunch of nimwit non-marksmen and weapons that wont fire. I highly doubt it will change things too much in the next 50 years, after that who knows. Just my 2cents

Remington, Government Subsidized
PackerMenges replied to PackerMenges's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Remington posted this on their fb page a couple hours ago. Pretty interesting, they must be taking some serious heat from some major players to put this out there. "To our Remington fans, We believe the NY SAFE Act is unconstitutional and was passed in a questionable fashion. Remington and its employees worked diligently with pro-gun legislators to prevent the Act's passage. We actively participated in the Albany rallies and drove the letter-writing campaign to stop this anti-gun legislation. The recently awarded Department of Defense (Special Operations Command) contract, questioned by some as a "pay-off," has been in development for years -- it has nothing to do with NY State. While we are unhappy with the misguided acts of our elected politicians, Remington will not run or abandon its loyal and hard working 1,300 employees without considerable thought and deliberation. Laws can be overturned and politicians voted out of office, but the decisions we make today will affect our people, their families and entire communities for generations. Please bear with us as we determine the most appropriate way to satisfy our customers and protect our employees." Remington, Government Subsidized

This just rubs me wrong,: $16,000 per sniper rifle for the U.S. Military? $80,000,000 in tax payer money over ten years, when it just so happens that Remington had a smaller request in for who knows what, at a time in history where we are seeing unprecedented demand for ammo and weaponry? Riddle me this, Remington-You're going to stay in a provocatively anti-2nd Amendment State when the rest of your pals are headed for cover....too big to fail, or just a slave to the machine? Has me wondering, who is scratching whos back here? NY woke up and realized that they had better not lose all the gun mfgs, the tax revenues from the employees and products sold is a good stream...but I highly doubt that the income stream is all NY was concerned about losing. http://freedomoutpost.com/2013/04/remington-sells-out-to-ny-for-80-million-sniper-rifles-government-contract/ -
When I first read this story it made me wonder how many hikers have been cleaned up by the condors up at the canyon...

I know there are some toads that come from 26 and 27 off the Gray and unit 23 always has a grip of coues in certain places. I would be pretty comfortable finding some range on the west side of unit 25 (south to start?) to hunt coues in...could be totally wrong too. I will give a buddy a call tomorrow from over there and see if he has anything to allow and if he does I will let you know.

After weeks of waiting to get into the woods, my girlfriend and I were able to get away for the weekend to do some shed hunting. It was her first time doing this so I had some pressure to find something. We went to a place that has produced some good sheds for me over the years and this time proved fruitful as well. We didnt find many but we found one good hard white. Any guesses on score?
-
Thanks guys! Yeah we are still pretty stoked about it. My girlfriend has some high expectations now when it comes to shed hunting, haha!! I am going to have it scored this week and we will see.

I havent felt hopeful for awhile and this just teased me with a glimmer of it. Still a constant fight in front of us but I am so thankful this deal was shot down for the time being. It truly is an irrational, emotionally charged piece of legislation that makes ZERO sense. Any person with a brain should be able to understand that making it harder for legal, good, law abiding citizens to own weaponry only makes the bad ones foam at the mouth and lick their chops. Wolves never sleep, the shepherds must always be ready. -
I am so sick of this Anti-American President. I agree with everyone in here, it is a spooky time we live in. It is disgusting what is going on. Here is an interesting article that I am sure will ruffle feathers, if you havent read it yet. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2310110/Obama-administration-SLASHED-budget-domestic-bombing-prevention-45-cent-says-Homeland-Security-Assistant-Secretary.html

IMO, I think there are similarities in a broad sense. Everyone has their own definition of hunting and what it means to them, same goes for religion. Both are a very intimate part of a persons belief system and for most people, both are very personal. We go hunting on certain days of the year, just as we go to our respected religious centers certain days. We could go everyday if we wanted but then other parts of our life would get shut off. We have to hold both in great balance and both offer lessons in which we can learn from. I really don't think you can talk about hunting without talking about nature. We study nature while hunting similar to how we study our religious material while at our personal place of worship, deeply, slowly, and passionately. We hold that there are truths in nature that we will never know, same goes for religion. We practice faith and exercise it when we are in the field by embracing the unknown, just as we do everyday going to work. We question it. As far as hunting being a religion, that is a tough one for me. I find that my religious views often take over in the morning before a hunt and I send a shout out to the man upstairs to get the day started out on the right foot. I feel more connected to my personal beliefs when I am in the field, glassing miles away, surrounded by nothing, but everything at once, call it a step closer to the man. I think both hunting and religion go hand in hand but ultimately nature and hunting are part of the creation, one step below the penultimate. All of it deserves our respect, dignity, and time. Great topic.

Man, no kidding on the BA rifles! Though I just bagged on Remington in the Political discussion board, I am super envious of the collection of arms you are selling. I am sure they will all sell fast! You dont have a 22-250 you want to get rid of do you?- 31 replies

Do you have this book, Snapshot? To counter the "free obama phones" being handed out in ghettos, maybe a group should get together and hand out "the obama survival guide" to middle class families in the suburbs....

I like the raffle idea!....... Unless I was Couesdeer, then I would be pissed about either the raffle or the bidding war!

McCain and Flake ROT IN heck!!!
PackerMenges replied to coues7's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I agree with Snapshot, those rotten, bought off hypocrites have been living in Washington too long and its about time they heard some real passion from the people who make up their voting blocks. It is ugly to see but they have been purchased one too many times and I am thinking this could be a tipping point. It is obvious that they dont base their decisions on rational un-emotional arguments so what would make you think they are going to respond to playing softball with intelligent arguments? All of this could spell disaster for the GOP in the next round of elections if some true, loyal, vocal, conservative patriots don't jump all over this soon and announce they are running. Obama and the liberal machine are counting on gun-control and immigration to break the backs of us conservatives/libertarians and are hoping we give up and they can gain full political control of the Federal Govt. Division is done, the lines are being made very clear, and fighting fire with fire is about all were going to be left with if those currently elected don't wake up soon.
