Looking for input on a scope for a lightweight 7 mm-08 AI
Big or Bust replied to 300RUM's topic in Long Range Shooting
I'd mount a 2-10x32 or x42 Nightforce as you mention or a SWFA 3-9x42.... -
If you guys haven't run the meopta S2, you are seriously missing out but I won't scream any louder....
-
Meopta S2 or Swaro 95 mm...
-
He's definitely 150". With just that one photo I'd say you are at that 160" mark or close.... Good fronts are better for score than good backs...
-
Good guy bump. This is a super sweet rifle twisted right for the high BC stuff....
-
Swaro HD 12's or 15's and a Meopta S2 or Swaro HD spotter.... Anything Vortex in a binocular is an easy pass...
-
Bro - no tough guy here. Pronghorns are the subject. Tough guy stuff is for rifles or bullets...grin... You opined that the goats off Three Links might be Sonoran's and said you didn't know. I simply let you know that they were not. I'd suggest not opining on something you don't know much about and then not getting sensitive when you are wrong. Have a good one -
-
There was also elk in Oklahoma.....grin
-
Bud - watch the video. Do 1 minute of googling.... You saw Sonoran's down in the Agua Prieta or nearby. FACT. The goats off Three Links in Unit 32 are hunted goats. They are the "American Pronghorn" which are all over. FACT. AZGFD will not conduct a hunt for pronghorn where Sonoran's live. Our communication is getting crossed. Sonoran's only live right around where you saw them and in Mexico....
-
Those are not Sonoran goats. These are. Different subspecies. I would imagine the ones off Three Links outside Willcox were in fact Sonoran, but I do not know for sure. Um, no. AZGFD does not have a public hunting draw for endangered species.

What an awesome story. Wish I would have seen it sooner.... -
Randy Newberg is a great guy, hunter, and hunter advocate.

There are no secret spots as have been said. East facing slopes anywhere in the unit basically. Glass from flats, stalk them up and shoot.... Slopes with a mix of cactus, ocotillo, and yellow grass.... Glass them up...
-
Just about any east facing slope will have pigs on it at some point in the morning. Loads and loads of pigs in C.

I enjoy other people's success photos so I figured I'd share my season thus far. First up was Colorado on a solo backpack hunt. Rough hunt. Pack out was rough. Was rewarded with a 190" buck. 660 yard shot. The Arizona season started at the end of the Colorado season and on opening day (95 degrees with a 15 MPH wind )we glassed this buck up in his bed. After an hour of studying I decided to take him. He goes 181". 420 yard shot (closest in 3 years!) Both with .280 AI and 168 Bergers... New Mexico coues deer this weekend. Hoping to continue the streak....

What does your "long range" hunting rifle way?
Big or Bust replied to AZHUNTER05's topic in Long Range Shooting
Guys I'm not saying don't do it, heck it's a free country. Just everything has limitations and realms of performance regardless how good of a shooter you are. -

There are velocity thresholds where bullets behave by design and then don't. Impacts too slow often will cause many bullets not to upset, or expand. Manufacturers publish this stuff. Bullets are better now than the used to be. I've seen a few eldx and eldx critters now. Behave about like an Amax. How many wound channels have you seen with a bullet impacting flesh between 1300-1600 fps? I've seen more than a few. Not impressive. All I'm saying is if you hunt critters with cartridges and bullets beyond their impact range rodeos are gonna increase, even with perfect placement, and exits are gonna be rare. Walking to impact spot with no critter or sign at 1,00 yards turns into a rodeo more times than not. Seen it too many times. Don't take my word for it. Do some reading. Get out a bit more. The Creed is a nice cartridge, absolutely the current fad, but it isn't a magic killing machine. -

Absolutely not true we have killed two bears over a 1000 with 6 and 6.5Creedmoor And multiple deer close to it . It's all shot placement Brotherman, that's super but even with the highest BC bullet on the market in the 6.5 CM at ( ELD-M .697) at about as fast as you can run them (2700 is way pushing it), your impact at that distance is below what manufacturers call optimum bullet performance. In other words you are on your own....A 143 ELD-X numbers are way worse.... Asking for a rodeo my man and it ain't all about shot placement when a bullet doesn't do what it should do. It'll die but you'll be walking grids all over the mountain for a week.... "Energy" at 1K with a .697 at 2700 is under 1K but energy means nothing... Have fun - -
Yup - 55's great in 12's... A 12 generally will not do the 62 ttsx, nor the 60 NP. Might get lucky though... Sometimes a 65 SGK or 64 PP will... More twist is never bad....

Now that's an interesting looking deer....
