I was there Saturday. We were bass fishing though. We caught a couple, but not many. Mid day we decided to give crappie a try. I left my crappie box at home, so that didn't go too well either. Saguaro was a lot better to us last night.

I'm truly at a loss for words. I will keep an eye on it though, curious to see how it will play out.

Poachers beware
youngbuck replied to archerycrazy's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I see both sides to arguement. I do think it is BS, a guy gets a 700$ fine alone for poaching a sheep. Some guys pay 10's of thousands of dollars for a sheep hunt. 700$ is awfully cheap for sheep hunt. The bigger problem is the "corporation or big box" mentality. Just like all the large big box retailers. Everything has a policy. Everything has to be done by the book, that some peron or comitte came up with. The executive branch needs to enforce the laws(using some common sence) and the judicial branch need to INTERPRET (very key word) and apply the law (using comon sence once again). THe executive branch needs to write laws that are enforcable and applicable. Some how ALL 3 branches have lost their common sence and have to do everything "by the book". They have lost their ability to look at individual cases and do "what is right". My sence of what is right may be different than others though. I wish we could go to a one law system; Don't be a dumb butt, punishable by what ever "seems right" That would give way too much power for one group of people, be it enforcers or interpreters. -
GIANT 184 inch coues plus two more 100 inchers

Is this for some one's personal collection, or a show piece? -
I lived a few miles from Rio Salado for 20 years. I still live 15 minutes from ther. I refuse to go there anymore. I haul my long range rig with me most of the time I'm out and practice in the hills at various distances, never the same. I can shoot alright most of the time. I will always need practice finding a spot to shoot from in the hills, ranging, calculating drop, and doping my wind. If there was a get together in the woods for a longrange shoot, I would probably do that.

My favorite, easily, was helping on my Grandpa's elk hunt a few years ago. He was 85 at the time. He wanted a little spike for good eating but ended up with this. I was with my uncle, cousin, and my buddy I grew up with. I will never forget that hunt. It will always be one of my favorite hunts for the rest of my life. I've always looked up to my grandpa. He is the toughest man I know. A few years later (I think he was 88), he shot a muley buck, while he was hunting alone. He told my uncle he was sick of walking through the rocks and was gonna do it his way.

The AZGFD called me today and said they lost my application. They said I would recieve tags for my first choice hunts, and asked what they were. Looks like I'm gonna get drawn.

Clarity wise they are real close to SLCs. I don't feel handicapped using them. They can get narrower than the SLCs, wich help me a bit.(I have to stagger the obj cover rings on the swaros to get them close enough) the and finish isn't as nice but they cost a lot less.

Azbasszone.com has a lot of good info. If you are curious about Roosevelt, listen to what Leroy Price has to say. He just started posting on here, saves me the time of checkin AZBZ for crappie reports

AZGF will be back in to lawmaking in 2011
youngbuck replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in The Campfire
Lobo, I understand your post. I was in no way offended. I saw what happened to the trappers. I'll never be able to use a leg hold on public lands. I am learning with cages now. History is the best way to predict the future. There are other ways to regulate harvest rates than limiting equipment. If you don't think bait will be banned, you may be mistaken. I was around and folowed those discussions/meetings very closely. I believe Bowsniper is the guy w/ all that information. It was close to being banned once. It can be very close in the future. I promise that the battle will not end with the baiting issue. I don't know what could be next; calls, water, archery gear. No one knows. There will always be a percentage of the population who will do any and everything they can to reduce the amount of hunting. If we as outdoorsmen and women don't stand up and fight for what we believe in, they will get their wish. The reason I may seem fired up, is because I am. Once something is gone, it usually doesn't come back. AZGFD is pressured by animal rights groups and hunters. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. Ive spent thousands of dollars in fuel to use cameras. I've spent hundreds of days hauling salt and checking cameras. Ive spent probably months now, added up, in a stand or in a blind. I've got thousands of pictures of all kinds of crittes, mostly coues bucks. Ive got lots of pictures of nice bucks. I have yet to draw my bow on a coues buck. Baiting is anything but a slam dunk. Ask any of the guys who have tried and failed, or any of the guys who are very proficient at it. I have been unsuccessful to arrow a coues buck. That hasn't stopped me from trying. Running cameras and finding spots is my most enjoyable hobby that I can do year round. I won't let them take that from me without letting them hear my opinion. I don't like it when I'm hunting and a group of ATVers blast by. They have the the same rights I do to use the land though. I'll help them if their hobby is being taken from them, hoping that they would return the favor when I'm the one in the fight. Strength in numbers. The antis have learned how to use it effectively, so should we. -

I've always heard that this is a great banquet. I have yet to make it to one. If I'm done with turkeys by then I might try to make it. -

Lobo, One day you will learn that views like that is what is hurting hunting. There are lots things I don't agree with about hunting. I'm not about to list them. When they outlaw MY trail cameras, they will come after something you like and enjoy next. I'm not going to be there to help you in your fight at that time, neither will any of the other trail cam users. You will learn that outdoorsmen and women need to stick together no matter the issue. Ever heard of divide and conquer? You are doing the work for the anti's with those comments. I sure wish the trappers were still around to help us in our fight now, but they are gone. I was too young to help them in their fight, wish I could have. Ryan -
I use 15" for field judging. I use that when they are looking straight at you. I've measured a few bucks shortly after the shot and they measure close to 15" at the position they are in when a buck is alet and looking around. I have a buck, just finished at the taxi, with a chewed off ear, I'm sure he was a lot less than 15"

I have Swaros, Leupolds, Vortex, Cabelas, old Tascos and a few less expensive. The best clarity, I own, is the Swaro, The vortex(es) I have are just a little behind my 1" swaro in clarity, and less than 440$. For the money the 1" Zeiss are pretty nice too. Most companies make something w/ the most bank for the buck. I have yet to look through a Z6, but if my pockets were deep I would have a nightforce NXS or maybe a USO. Ive never looked through a USO or Schmidt and Bender, but would like to. I'm really curious about Vortex' Razor 35mm. In the next week or two, I am taking my Swaro off my 300RUM and mounting up the Vortex. Some people will call me crazy, but it is nearly as clear and has more functional turrets. I'll probably end up selling it to go towards a rifle build or hunt in New Zealand. It may end up on my 17HMR or 223WSSM

Predator Hunting unit 22 March 12th
youngbuck replied to Santana Outdoors's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I might be in, gotta see if I have class that saturday. I lent out my foxpro CS-24 to my cousin last week, he called in a kitty with it to get it's first blood. I havent had much time to play with it. -
I asked my dad when I was a kid, "Why don't you eat coyotes?" He said that he didn't think skinny, mangy dogs would taste too good. I haven't ever tried it. If Lark makes up a batch of skinny dog jerky when he gets back from Nover Skoshya, I'll try it.

They could have multipe archery seasons to avoid a massive rush, similar to the second bear hunt that most hunters forget about. -

+1 I would rather see a harvest objective for archery deer, than some units going off and on the draw system. -
Cabelas or Bass Pro had them on sale in one of their recent ads.

I think you have to be signed out TJ, try signing out and see if a "sign up" icon apears where it usaually says tjhunt in the upper right.

I have to agree access is a big part. Roads through the hills are getting closed and highways are growing and becoming easier to travel to those fewer dirt roads.
