I noticed a lot more people around this year too. There were people in a lot of spots I had never seen a truck in the past few years.

My Dad tagged out on a real neat looking mid 90's buck, 1 shot @ 600. I should have pics in the next day or 2.

Ive looked at those and 200gr ABs. Im sure they would all work great. Ive been very surprised by A-max's performance on large heavy animals. Ive also seen what VLDs and SMKs can do. The benefits would be marginaly better than how my rifle is performing now. A new bullet isn't gonna get me where I want to be. The next "step up" in performance for where I want to be is a 338 edge. Ive had my mind made up for the past year or so. I'm just trying to convince my wallet to agree.
-
Yeah the 338 edge w/ 300gr has the same KE at 1k that my 300RUM w/ 180s does at 500yd. What bullet are you shoting?

A 20" bear is a big bear. a 20" will make B&C awards. 21" will get ya in the all time. World record is 23 10/16. Ive seen a few in the 20s from Az/NM and 2 over 21, one was an Az bear.

Great pics SB! I'm always fascinated with the smaller critters most people pass by without noticing. I liked the Sharp’s grysbok. Were you able to take any of the genets or civets? Great kudu too!

They shoulda let you keep it then and there. Makes ya never want to call em and get on the "good" side of the law. They say the law is the law. They would have bent the law it if it was a spike.I is a shame you have to buy it back. I hope the word gets out about it being your's at the auction. If I'm at the expo I'll help ya out and open the bid at 1 penny.

I took pics PM me if you want them. 2 bucks both 180gr ABs 560 and 300yd

My 180gr AB loads have taken 8 coues and 1 Desert Bighorn in the past 4 years or so. Yardages from 160 to 729. Every animal but the 729yd coues dropped in their tracks. He only took a few steps. Ive never seen anything "too dead". The ABs don't excessivly damage meat as I feel the BTs can. Ive also seen a lot of 160gr 7mm ABs in action, with the same results. I'm big fan of ABs on coues. I know and understand the minimum opening velocities for the AB and other bullets thanks to 308. The numbers add up, but in field performance is why I like them. I'll try to take some pictures this weekend if I get lucky. I have 2 guys haulin 300RUMs both shooting 180 ABs and one guy with a 7mag with 160 ABs. My back up rifle is a mag with 140ABs. I wish I had pics of the deer my buddy shot with a 7stw and 160 AB @ 630yds. There litterally was a 2" diameter hole through the chest cavity (no heart left) with tiny entrance and exit holes. No meat damageand no cape damage. All the balistic gell tests Ive seen, show expansion between 2-8 inches penetration, and small diameter wound chanel after that. On coues, in my experiences, that means all expansion is in the chest cavity, with a small exit.

.30 hole for entrance, .5" for exit of you dont hit a major bone to take out with the bullet. Inbetween the entrance and exit, there will be a 1"-2" hole filled with nothin but jelly. Its been a great bullet for me. Nothing has gotten away from it.

Hot weather makes most people go back to camp. Stay in the shade behind your glasses all day if you can. The deer have to eat, water, and stretch when its 30degrees or 115. They might not move around as much, but they like to get up and move to a better shaded spot when its hot. I try to stay out all day on the Oct hunts. Its not easy, but the deer are still on the hill in the middle of the day.

Montgomery Fur is a good plase to shop online. They have lots of stuff. 1st rate customer service, and super fast shipping. They carry lots of items from just about everybody. Check out the trapper shed section of trapperman.com for used gear. I got my bigger, better built cages form Mercer Lawing in Ca. Super nice guy who is EXTREMELY knowledgable about cage trapping bobcats (cagingbobcats.com). Also look at Tracy Truman's books and DVDs. He has lots of info on grays and cats, and a specific cage trapping DVD (grayfoxtrapping.com).

Nothin better than a trophy spike like that for a first deer! Great pics.

I think it was Lark who talked about some kind of blue grease a while back. I wanted to cover a easy to find, broken cam it in. Then have a hidden one up high to video the guy gettin covered in the stuff. Was it you Lark? If so, what was the blue gunk?

I wear what ever holds up and is affordable. For a while I had abunch of camos so I wore those out. Now I keep camp not all torn up for archey hunts. Carharts work well. Right now I have a bunch of brown wranglers, with and without the cordura fronts. Insulated and non insulated. VF factory outlet has em cheap and they hold up well. Those insulated ones are nice for december tags if you are glassing a lot.

I helped on that hunt last year, well the following hunt. That was the same weekend as the snow storm that stranded hunters. I was sleeping outside on a cot. Memory foam freezes solid in single digit temps. Weather can get nasty that time of year. Im no help for lodging though.

THanks for rubbing it in I have pictures of what I was hoping for

I agree with jeffro. I like 180 acubonds but id try for 180+. My rum likes imr4350. Most like h1000 and retumbo. I have some retumbo but never got around to using it, the 4350 shoots real good for me. -
Spotted 3 of them @ Mesa gfd office

I thought they looked big for 285s. I got the frontier w/ the locker. They are pretty good rigs that are hard to stick. I shoulda stopped and said hi but I was between work and class and short on time. -

I saw the taco. Good lookin rig CJ. 285/75/16s? I parked my frontier next to it but I was only here a minute or two. -
I was in strawberry saturday night. Some one staying with us, woke us up and said they think there is a tornado. It was windy and knocked over some trees, but nothing like the pics.

I asked this morning, they said it is legal to find and pocess a tortoise shell.
-
My cousin did the adopt a tortoise deal. They had it for a couple years. It disapeared when their pool was put in. I might have to call Azgfd and see what the leagalities of shells are.

One of the neatest critters in az. My parents neighbor had one move into her courtyard. It burrowed under the house and lived there for 3 years or so. One day it was gone. I would love to find an empty shell of one. Anybody know re legality of keeping an empty shell?

My cuz lost his Sony handy cam in 23N a few weeks ago filming some elk. It is in a black bag with red trim. He thinks it fell off the quad while he was on the Colcord rd. It has a bunch of video of his kid on it. It also has some hunt video. If anyone has heard anything or happened to have found it let me know.
