    Please welcome Best Hardware!

Thanks again Amanda, Here is a few we had in last month. As of this morning we have a 25q roadie in tan, and the rest are all tundras; 45qt in white and tan, 65qt tan, 75qt white (2011 model, not in their catalog yet), 85qt tan, 105qt tan, 120qt white. We try to keep as many on hand so our customers can see how big of a cooler they want, ts hard to size one from a sheet of numbers. If yuo want to see one or see how they are built just stop in. We order more in whenever we sell enough to get more room. We try and have a good variety and can get whatever Yeti cooler you want in less than a week as long as they are not backorded. I do realize these coolers are not for everyone. They are built to last, like nothing else. They are made the same way ocean kayaks are, using the same material. They are pretty indestructable. The hinge is a full length rod and recessed, so it can't break off. The snaps are the same style as on the hood of a Polaris Ranger. They will not slide around in the back of your truck, the feet on them help them stay put. They are sturdy enough for, I think, any one to stand on or jump on. THe International Grizzly Bear Comitee certified them as a bear resistant cooler. These are the same guys who test the bear proof containers. So basicly they are built with abuse in mind. They also happen to keep ice longer than anything I've ever used. The insulation is 2-3 inches thick. They have a freezer gasket on the lid to make them air tight. I have an old coleman extreme that keeps ice better than the newer 7 days. I thought that was as good as it gets, untill I tried the Yeti. If you have any questions feel free to PM, E-mail, or call me. My contact info is in my sig.

    Topo paper maps

I believe it is. I've never used the one at SW though. The NG software is really good for roads. You can shade elevaions to your liking too i believe. Between the took software, NF maps and google earth i don't really need to go to map stores. I still buy maps there to write and draw on for buddies going to new spots. All my stands and water off o roads is saved on my topo software. Its worth the money for sure. I need to update mine. The newer ones are pretty neat with flythrough and satalite images i think. My took software is probably 10 years old and still very usefull.

    Howling

Its always a good locator, for turkeys as well as yotes. Ive only had it call in dogs a few times, but it will let you know where they are. The ones Dan Thompson makes are pretty good. Those are the hand howlers I prefer, as well as his distress calls too.

    Topo paper maps

The wide word of maps in Mesa has topo maps put together to cover whole units (they have a lot of units too). The other locations might, you should call and ask, maybe they will. They are pretty good. I also use and old version of NG Topo! software to point out very specific spots. Its worth the money if you need to look over lots of spots. Also ask guys who quit huntig who might have some older FS maps. I have abunch of my Dad's old maps and there are a lot of old roads not on the new maps. On the side not not to steal anything from the OP, Anybody ever seen a big, real big, map of the whole state? I want like a 6' x 8' map of AZ as detailed as I can get for the garage.

    had to be a 7mm/08

I read about this a few days ago. Think about it; 17 times. Who has ever shot at one animal continously 17 times? You would think after shot 4 or 5 he might say "man somethin aint right" and move on to another body part.

    Tough Hunt

Sounds like another kill to me, but no boot tracks or quad tracks? A bull ain't no easy thing to get outs the woods. They would left some hair I think. If the only thing left is the gut pile, some one gutted it. Might have been a cow hunter, and was easier to pack out. Keep us posted if you see/find anything else

380 vs 400 what would yawl do

I had a guy with an early rifle tag last year. I was helping his son in the same unit the archery hunt prior. We knew where the good bulls were. We showed him lots of good bulls probably up to 365. He passed on them and tagged out the last day, on a good bull but no 365. If they are going to be picky, they will have to be ready to go without. Thats how it goes. On a side note, I would call anybody crazy for passing on a 380, cuz they are. A 380 bull is a toad. Sure 400 bulls are nice, and there are more being killed now than a decade ago it seems. You have to pass on 380's to kill 400's though. The early rifle tag can be a humbling experience. Most people who get those tags have their hopes set real high, heck I would too. Bottom line, It would be 99% impossible for me top pass on a 380 bull. If I had a lapse of judgement and decided too, I could only blame myself. Thats why I wont ever tell somebody "you better shoot him!" I'll give them my best guess for score and help him find another one or help him pack out what he gets.

Thanks DB, we will have to chrono his gun before we email him.

    vortex scope

I put medium WARNE rings with a picatanny rail on my 700. I think the mediums are too high and will probably change them to lows. I have the Vortex with 30MM tube with the 50MM objective. I looked on MM but didn't find anything. We were plannin on MOA turrets, but my favorite color is free.

    vortex scope

What rings/bases did you go with? and is it a 700? I'm gonna try and do the one piece Talley's for him but I dont remember what height I used with my 50mm.

Good to hear, I ordered one for a buddy last week. I still need to make an order with Kenton. It might be ready for early WTs. I want one but dont have anything to put it on.

    Binoculars

You can't go wrong with kaibabs. They are good for the money, but the tripod adapter is a little chintzy. Used Zeiss 15x60s may be an option for you too. You want very large objective lenses with 15x. I prefer 50mm on 12's and 56-60 on 15s. Another option I like is the 12x50 vortex razors.

New Long Range Rifle 1000yrds +

Thats not too bad with the harris. I've been kicking around the idea of having an edge built for a while, but i've got a lot more pennies to put away. How do you like mark4? Did you compare it to the NXS?

    25-06 first centerfire rifle?

I started on a 243. Also had a 25-06 i coulda used. I didn't start using the quarter bore till i was 14 or so. It was louder and more recoil. The 243 was better for me at 9 and 10. The 243 has pleny of power. If you don't have one, the 25 might do. I wasnt a very big kid. I tried the bigger stuff when i was little. My dad encouraged me to use what i was comfortable with. Later he told me it was mostly due to the bad habits of flinching and yanking the trigger.

    gear for rifle Coues hunt

I leave all my stuff in my pack. Knives, lights, tripods, radios, rope, batteries, hearing protection. I have my cot, bed roll, sleeping bag, and liner in a large ruffle bag. All my stuff is always packed and always in the same spot. I might end up haulin a lil extra in my pack but its always there, everytime. Get a cooler and some food and a case of water. I take all my huning clothes to and from the field in he same bag. They go from the washing mahine back in the bag. It works well for me, i hate forgetting things. My only checklist is gun, ammo, and tag. I i forget something i learn the hard way, and remember.

What do you wear on your feet for a stalk?

Bought a brand new pair of them at Sports Authority last week. They must have had some leftovers. Are they the Pulse II mid's? Ive tried Merrel's Radius, Reflex, Outlander, Radland, Kinetic, every kinda Danner I could find and a Lowa Zepher. Best fit I have now is the Zephyrs then the Merrel Radland. The Pulse II's didnt last much more that 1 year, but they sure were a good fit for me.' Ryan

    recording your hunts

I knew what video it was before i clicked on it, perfect doug! Back on topic i bought a panasonic 30x zoom or so a few years back. Its good for shots up to 500 or so. I videod a lope getting smoke poled last weekend from about 3/4 of a mile off. You can see it, but heat waves killed it. I would love to have a 60x optical zoom. I need something small or id never haul it. Im not filmin for shows, just friends and family.

    Two Way Radios?

seems like the 110 radio works better than 120 and 130s that I have, from what I've seen. My buddy has a pair of the high end 530HCX or what ever they are. They work great, They are awfully big and heavy though. Even for a techy guy like me, I think they do too much. Im not gonna drop that kind of cash on a radio, but I will use his . I do like the electronic compass feature of the 130s. Seems like in most places now we can get a little bit of cell service when our radios are too far to work well.
