I do agree whitetails will eat dirt before lick a block. i use pellets and granuals most of the time, just water softener salt. Granuals soak in faster and they seem to like the pellets too. If i can, i use a combo of the two. I only use blocks for elk or if the spot is to far to get to regularly, just bacause the block will last a long time, especialy if no elk or cattle are hitting it. Some spots are weird, ive had spots that start out great and others that take a while. One of my best spots took over a year to get hit regularly.

What makes you think something like that ? Try unit 29 - A game and fish did a survey and stated 4 bucks to every doe. so they uped the tags this yr. The local ranchers wanted to know how g&f got this information - On the spring round-up they had 10 guys on horeseback for 5 days all over the back country. they seen a total of 2 does -- period ! Must not be anywhere ive seen in 29. Ive had days with 50+ does and a couple spikes all day long

Well i thought I couild help ya untill you said the calw. Bare minimum i would use a 700rc2 head. I have 2, lots of buddies have them too. I use 3 sets of legs, And always haul two, one video and one glassing. A manfroto 3001bn im 5-10 and its not tall enough unless I almost close the legs together. Great set of legs but they arent light. Ive had em for a long time. I recently got a slik 7014 set of legs recently. Lighter and taller and collapses smaller than the manfroto. Plenty tall for me standing up. I also have a lighter set that gets tall, just wont "kick out" I use those if im packin in way war and dont wanna haul 2 full sixe rigs. One of my buddies is probably 6-2 and just got a manfroto cx series thats super tall. It can be fully extended to way over my head and probably tall enough for you, barely. The problem with the whole set up is gonna be using the claw. THe 700Rc2 head isnt heavy enough i dont think. I know those guys recomend some heads for the claw. I dont think the jim white wouldnt do you much good either. THey are well built heads, im just no good with them. I would talk to the claw guys and see what they would recomend. Im sure they have used enough sets of legs and head to find a good combo that would work for you. Fluid head are very important for me. Absolutely necesary for me videoing something that moves. I think one of the benefits of the claw is to use a fluid head so you can follow something moving alot easier at longer ranges.

Y'all helped me choose a powder, now bullets?
youngbuck replied to king4wd's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I know alot of guys who have shot alot of bullets in the past few years and alost everyone I know has changed to accubonds. I started shooting them per RR's suggestion a few years ago and have seen great results. I know of balitic tips failing at long ranges, barnes not opening up at long ranges and a lot of other issues. I'm not saying accubonds never mess up, but i have never seen it. They have worked great for me, and alot of other people. The only bad thing ive ever heard is that they arent the cheapest and one guy couldn't get the .25 caliber to shoot well. I have some .25 110s to load up in a 25-06 to test that though. I would really like to try some bergers though. You might wanna wait for lark to chime in too. I know hes tried alot of different stuff, more so in a 270. -
I think thats a burnt up stump or part of the tree, it is in the same position in both pics. I dont think the second pic is a javi, but a 4 second difference would make me believe it to be the same animal. I cant believe no one agreed with kgaines. I think it could be a wolf. It looks a little small, but maybe its not a fully growed one. I have only seen one re introduced wolf in AZ but thats my guess

The way ive always look at it is that there are binos that i think are the best bang for the buck. For less that 300 i think the nikon monarchs are your best bet. I have a pair and lots of guys have been impressed with them for the price. For the next step up i think id save for the the vortex vipers or razors. I think they are the best at that price point. My buddy just bought a pair of 12x50 razors. He didnt have abunch of money to spend on neck glass and pack glass so he opted for the 12's. I was really impressed with them. The next step up is the famous "S" as GH put it. Some guys like the "L", im one of both i guess.

Man ive spent alot of time in the units you guys are talkin about seein these dogs and ive been luck enough to never run into em. I have always heard stories about but usually a group of three or so. Sounds like bad news, especially a group that big

I was driving from saguaro lake to payson on th 87 early tuesday morning and saw one single hen at mesquite wash. Thats the first low spot north of "cow rock". Ive seen birds a little higher elevation than this but in a different part of the state. I also know that these birds got loose from a ranch and reproduced. Has anyone else seen any turkers arund mesquite wash? I thought i was crazy but i got a good look and it was a turkey.

minimum caliber rifle for deer
youngbuck replied to BigBfever's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Im sure a 22WMR is a rimfire. I thought rimfires were illegal for turkeys but never looked into fall rules. Maybe i need to get a fall turkery tag for my 17HMR they say 17 magnum rimfires are legal -
Thats crazy. I wonder what the H-3 measurement is, if you scored him as a 3. is the 57 score a 2pt score with extra tine added in?

Ive had great luck with accubonds in 7mm caliber. Both the 140's and 160's. I load 140s for my dads 7mag, shoots great, he doesnt need 160s cuz i shoot 180 outa my 300RUM for really long range stuff. I also know 2 guys who use 160s. One in a STW the other in a 7 RUM. Both were used to take deer this year at long range like 500+. If i was shootin a 7mag at 500 for elk I would want the 160s. Flat shooting doesnt really matter with turrets. Consistancy does, so does wind drift. The original best of the west guys shot regualr 7 mags with a 168 vld if i remember right. Not too sure if thats what they still use or not.

I've been at it for almost 20 minutes. If all you guys quit calling, i'll get through then i promise ill stop for you guys.

Great Post!!! Looks like you guys had a blast. I've always had a few trips like that in mind but I've never done it.

My rule is that if i have a rifle tag I wont shoot a buck with my bow in august unless it has eye guards. Not always a concrete rule cuz sometimes I get the itch and have chased around spikes/unicorns with a rifle tag waiting at home. I guess i'm always looking for the "perfect" archery shot if i have a rifle tag.

Elk and Antelope checks
youngbuck replied to willhunt4coues's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
They can't give me an early archery rut hunt or my rifle antelope tag without me payin first. So i wanna make sure they got my check. -
I've tried a bunch of shooting sticks before and while they help, they do not compare to a harris. I never really wanted or like bipods untill recently. My girlfiend bought me one for x-mas and i will never go back. She got me the 25-c S. its tall enough to shoot sitting down with a little down hill slope and short enough to shoot prone. I would say for long rande work definately get the swivel version. Gun has to be level for reticles or turrets to work
