    Scope Rings and Bases

i have had problems with leupold rings and bases. I have 4 or 5 sets that worked fine, but on one gun i went through 2 sets of rings and bases.(all 2 pc) I couldnt get enough elevation out of them. I switched to talley, the base and ring are connected milled from 1 pc of aluminum, my scope was about 8 clicks from dead center. The next set i buy will be the talley

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

My dad has a pair of the geovids in 10x and has a pair of swaro 15s. i think brightness is comparable between the geos and the swaros. I do think the clarity is a little better in the leicas though. My uncle has the geos in 15 and switched to them from the swaros before the swaros he had the zeiss 15-60's. He says the clarity is best in the geos. ive never had a chance to look through the geos in 15, but ive had the zeiss 15s, swaro 15s, and leica geo 10's side by side lots of times. Color contrast, for me, is best in the zeiss. I try to look at prickly pear pads against rocky background or single tree branches against more solid colors. The zeiss make these items stand out a little better. The leicas clarity in the 10's does seem to be a little better than the swaro 15. I havent ever had a problem seeing something in the geo10's that i could in the swaro 15's or viceversa. When i have my choice i prefer the swaro 15s soley based on power. If i glass closer stuff i use the leica's. I would definately look into the leica geo 15's. i was really impressed with their geovid line What is everyones choice for: A smaller carry binocular ranging in 7 - 10x? in this order leica geo 10's. zeiss classic 10-40, nikon monarch 10-42 A larger glass at 15x? swaro or zeiss but want to get a good look out of leica 15's Spotting scope? don't carry one Rangefinder? leica geovids or i like the nikon 600 cuz its little

    LOOK WHAT I FOUND!

i always wanted to get some pictures like this. Last fall during scouting i had my oppurtunity. I was about a mile and a half from the quad and i almost stepped on a big mojave rattler probably over three feet long. I got my camera out and then thought better of it, my camera has little zoom and he was pretty fired up. Ill just sit here and enjoy ur pictures.

    Favorite part of hunting?

I agree with just about everything said. Only one was left out.the way you feel after packing an animal out a long ways. Not only the accomplishment but how light you feel. i always feel like i have a 5 ft. vertical jump when i set my pack down.
  5. not to hijack the thread but, i guess ive been pretty fourtanate. i wrote alot of papers on gun rights, hunting, and immigration in highschool and in college. Most of my teachers didn't agree with me but didn't fail me because of that. These papaers were some of my best because i cared about what i was writing. I was usually the only person in the class that was pro-gun pro-hunting and anti-illegal immigtation.

    Elk Call?

i like the bugles w/ the blue silicone piece, i think its the primos. Not the big one but the smaller one, its green and prob 7 or 8 inches long compacted and then stretches to like 20 inches, its easy to do little bulls to big bulls with that one. I used to hate diaphram calls too. I started with turkey diaphrams, the easiest ones to use are the ones with the plastic dome ontop. After i sounded half way decent i moved to elk diaphrams, and the pracice with the turkey calls helped alot. The best advise to give about diaphrams calls is to keep a few in your truck and pratice while driving, that way you wont bother anyone, i always have a few to pracice on while im driving.

  12. As far as the Dunes go in california you need a california permit. Not sure what they cost, ive nver had one. One guy i was with got a 100 dollar fine for not having one though. I talked to my dad about this new az system for while and if it goes through he says he will just get his quad street legal and drive it to work and where ever he wants. He told me it woudn't cost that much more to be street legal over the new proposed plan, but he can go any where, including the buenos aires

    looling for a coyote rifle

i shoot a 223 wssm and it does wonders on yotes and jack rabbits. I'm shootin a 55 gr. v-max just under 4000 fps, maybe 100-200 fps faster than a 220 swift. Hardly enough to care about. the 223wssm will push a 40 gr. v-max to 4600 fps, published max load (hornady book). These are pretty flat shooters. If your tryin to save pelts thogh i would use a .223. My calling partner uses a mini-14 w/ some nice glass. It shoots great, its a small rifle, and its semi-auto.

    Caliber for coues?????

I also used a .243 on a cow elk, at 100 yards. She only went about 10 yards. Great caliber for coues too. Ive shot a few mulies with the 243 and my dad has shot countless mulies and coues with it as well.

    success

We found this buck late in the afternoon of opening day. My dad glassed him up from about 800 yards. I made a stalk down to 230 yards. By the time i made it to my spot he was bedded down. I waited him out for quite a while. It was getting dark fast so we made enough noise to get him up. He only went less than 10 yards and went down. I grossed him at 85 1/8 It was getting dark fast so i dodn't have much time for pictures so i put up a pic of his left and right sides

    223 wssm reloading

I have and reload a 223 wssm right now i'm getting good groups w/ i think 41g of varget and a 55g v-max. They are almost all touching @ 100 untill my barrell gets too hot usually around 5 or 6 consecutive shots. From what i remember these loads aren't too hot compared to some of the others, not too sure im not around my books. I'm sure you could load hotter than that but for me, that load shoots really well. Ive never loaded any heavier bullets for anything bigger than yotes. The nosler and hornandy books have good info on the wssm's

    Going again

ill be in 36A this weekend not sure where exactly. Probably be in a black chevy
  21. well i read about the super conservation combo hunting licence a while back and looked into it. It has a hunting licence, archery deer, archery turkey, lion, and fall bear tags along with migratory bird, state waterfowl and kaibab stamp. I got the combo with the "super fishing", that consists of a fishing licence, urban licence, and trout stamp. all for 163, saves 50 bucks. I was wondering how many others are gonna/already went this route. I usually don't hunt kaibab but i have, and end up buying everything else eventually so i'm ahead of the game a little bit. THe only bad part is you have to get it at the G&F office.
  22. great lookin lope. I was wonderin what loads you were shootin in the 223 wssm, I have had good results with a 55 gr V-max for yotes, and would like a heavier bullet for small to medium sized game.
  23. i know federal has like 6 offerings for a 270wsm, other than that i was gonna load some 140 accubonds for a friend, i never did he just decided to buy the federals

!!! YOU GUYS HAVE TO SEE THIS !!!

i had a helicopter buzz my hunting group last year. They flew around us all morning untill they found us i guess. I was stalking a huge mulie with my bow, and the helicopter got as close as he could to the deer untill he ran him out of his bed. He later buzzed a few of the guys on a hilltop (who had rifle whitey tags). The helicopter got close enough to see that he was getting the "you're number one" sign. He kept flying around in the area for the next few hours. They believe that we are unintelligent and simple minded, but they are the ones harassing people who take pride in making great shots with high powered rifles. I might just be dumb but that doesn't seem like the best idea in the world.

    Firearm transporting

i usually use the gunracks up front with my rifle in a soft case bungied on. Its easy to take on and off and keeps the dust off my gun. havent taken my new rifle, with a 26" barrel and muzzle break, on the quad yet. I havent thought of the length being a problem till now
