  1. I'm sure paper apps keep some people from applying, but most likely, mostly non residents. They are already capped so it won't matter too much, for odds. I'll miss sitting around the dinner table bickering about hunt choices and getting ribbed for making a mistake in ink. I've alwayls lived a couple miles from a GFD office, either in Flagstaff or Mesa. I'm sure it is a hassle for most. Does anybody know if the AZGFD will be using that company from Teneessee (can't remember what state) will be handling the actual draw again?

  2. NFL banned it a while back too. I looked into it. The active ingredient available for purchase is in trace amounts. I called the House of Fitness supplement guru about it. He said anything you buy has so littlle of the active ingredient it is pretty much snake oil. It did seem like it was big in Chinese herbal medecine.

  3. Seems like most of the guys who are a sponsor here, are good to go. I've had good timely work done from Clay @ Mogollion and Colton Bagnoli. All the stuff I've had them do or buddies stuff had been top notch. I would not hesitate to take any of my trophies to Wellers or Wild Heritage either. I want to give Wild heritage a try next. Sorry to hear about your Taxi troubles, I've been burned too. The problem with taxidermists is that when they are good and get stuff done, they can charge a lot more. If they dont raise their prices, they will eventualy become swamped with work when people learn they are good. That has been my experience anyways.

  4. Thanks RR. I'm about to jump into photoshop. My room mate just got the software through work and we are both kind of self teaching ourselves how to use it. I did get some really good photos of a mojave rattler yeasterday. I'll try and do some editing and see what I end up with. I'll have to go through my camera box and see what software it included. It may have a canon version of the view NX.

  5. Thanks for the tips. Any specific tips for bears in August? It is hard to find cool and dry that time of year. Would you ever recomend salting if a guy couldn't make it to a freezer in a couple days? If not any other tips? Bear hides hold in a lot of heat, just wondering if there is anything special you guys would recomend for them.

  6. I think the Savage 6.5x284 is on their long action, a 110. IIRC, BML has a LRH in the 6.5x284, he may shed a little more light on it. It looks nice to me for a factory rifle. The LRH is only a little more money and has an adjustable cheek piece and muzzle break. Not sure if you would want those, but an option if you do.

  7. There are lots of thing you can do to deter theifs. Most important is placement. I rarely put them on water. If I do I hade them; low in brush. I never point one towards a road if it is a standard flash cam. I prefer to hunt deer where most people wont or wont think they are there. I figure if they people arent hunting there for deer they most likely wont be scouting it either. Amanda also sells some really small cameras that are easy to hide. If I set them up on a mineral or trail, I try and find a place secluded form the human eye. I look for small pockets or benches, people would avoid. People often travel in the path of least resistance. If you have to cross a bunch of down trees or cross a creek that can help. don't count out luck. I pull all of my cams for big weekends too. Keep your fingers crossed and good luck!

  8. If its android, Shooter is really good. Thats what I use. Bryan Litz helped on that one. He also has his tested g7 BCs for lots of bullets. My buddy has an iphone, I forget the name of the program he is running. We've tested them. you would have a hard time determining wich one is more accurate, but the Litz BCs are nice to have.

  9. I guess I'll throw my 2 cents in. Lots of good things said.

I like and appreciate the benefit of the added money being put directly back into the wildlife. I could argue with how that money is being spent, but that can be argued with any large company, especially a government entity. It is also easy to play armchair quarterback. I have no experience in managing a state's wildlife, just my personal experiences in the field. The problem with auction tags is that it turns a hunt into a high dollar lucrative business. When that much money is on the table, people try to bend the rules. I've heard rumors of the shenanigans on some of the governor's type tage in this state as well as others. I'm not saying this happens on all or most of the hunts like this. I don't even know first hand if any of the rumors are true. I also like to see al parties involved getting what they deserve. If you can make a living putting people on big animals, more power to you. I've though about starting a guide service or working for one. I think I would grow to not enjoy my time in the hils as mucj as I do now.

There a lot of guys who have stated they don't hunt for inches. I'll be the first to admitt that I do, and I'm the last guy to tell some one else they should. I find a certain amount of satisfaction in trying my hardest to put my tag on the biggest or most unique animal I can find on a hunt. Case in point my buddy's 09 Dec tag. We eventually tagged out on the buck we had been looking for since we first saw him two weeks prior. I find it personally satisfying to bust my butt and boot leather to try my hardest. I also hunt for meat. I got so mad the other day I had to drive to the store and buy ground beef. Nobody in my hunting group has taken an elk in 2 years. I have had some rough luck with deer tags in the past 2 years. My freezer is empty, but not because I chose to do with out due to holding out for the big one.

In the past few years I have gotten more joy for helping someone else tag out than filling my own tag. In the past 2 hunting seasons, I have not tagged one big game animal. I have, however, seen over a dozen animals gets tags put on them. I would not say my past two years have been a failure. On the contrary, they are some of the best hunting seasons I've ever had. I rate them right up there with the year I tagged out on my first early archery bull tag and late Dec WT tag. Last year I was home a total of around 4 weekends from July untill Mid January. I rate my hunting success on days spent in the field.

All that being said, if I had the money, you bet I'd be after those year long tags. If I had the money I'd spend everyday I could in the hills. It would be a dream to spend 365 days in the field. I buy the raffle tickets hoping I will get a tag. I would be just as excited if one of my hunting buddies got the year long tag instead of me. Having somebody ask me if I'd like to help scout all of Arizona to find the biggest baddest what ever would be awesome. I'd be spending my time looking at the best country in the world for the type hunting I enjoy. I'd find all kinds of critters big and small and enjoy being able to experience finding them. I will agree that when it is all said and done the amount of inches isn't what make a hunt extrodinary, its the little things. I got so excited last year when I saw a spotted skunk. How many people dance around when they see a skunk? Maybe I'm crazy, but learning to enjoy all the little things on a hunt makes them so much better.

Do what every makes you happy, unless you are ruining somebody else's day.

  10. I think the 2nd option, "check in the mail" will happen. If you are set on using your refund money, you could wait for a leftover leftover. Some of the hunts (36s mostly) with 2-300 tags left over will be available over the counter if they dont sell them all in the 1st left over process.

  11. My hunting buddy wants to haul his AR, and have me pack his LR rig, in case he made the wrong decision. He wants a hero pic of a coues and his AR. Similarly, I'd like to use a win m94 trapper in 357mag. I would like to take a buck with it some time. I doubt I will this year. I have a new 338 Lapua on its way. Kind of opposite sides of the spectrum, anything close to 100yds is extreme long range for the trapper. Biggest thing I'm looking forward to is long range video. I finally got an SLR camera, that also shoots video. I should be able to video in HD past 1000yds when its set up to the spotter. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good photos and video this year. I also have a full gamut of hunts this year to help on; several early WT hunts, a few early archery bull hunts, a couple late Oct/NOV WT tags, one late rifle bull hunt, and my Dec WT tag.
