New rifle caliber choice? You tell me!
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Long Range Shooting
7 mm wsm -
I too run wool base then poly shirt and I bring a cheap fleece jacket. I use my light weight rain jacket for top layer windbreak if needed. This gets me through all year backpacking south of the rim, north in January can be 1 more layer

Ounce again like any backountry here in az water will be the main issue, there are a lot of options on entry points as well. In general I would say mule deer on the west side and whitetail on the east side. From where I have been its almost a straight line north to south dividing the species. I have a javi tag in 22 this year and if it's the Jan hunt I'll be doing deer javi combo. Really big country for sure but in the 5 or so times I've been inside the wilderness fence I've never ran into anyone else or even glassed anyone else. My kind of place. Hard to go wrong hunting anywhere inside the wilderness boundary

Ya I kind of did this somewhat, I have the tools to do the work. I have had 3 or 4 guns total so far but sold everything to build my own and now find exactly what you say, I don't know what works together. I have a full Wyndham lower but its a turd. I will look at lmt, thanks. How do you feel about rock river? -

OK jack so if you were going to buy a complete ar stock base .556 gun to play with before converting what should you buy? What's a good base gun with good solid lower to build off of? 1000.00 price or so. -
Back in behind the mine is nice and thick with some well used deer trails all over so a blind would work well in there, you can drive right through the mine, there are signs for the public to follow through, go back and find some hiking trails to go in 1/2 mile or so and get off trail to look for sign, should be alot of good blind locations. There are some nice camp areas back there near water as well and you could base camp then hit the blind early each day. Throw some salt out near blind location asap and you should be golden. I saw alot of whitetail back there on our Mule deer tag. Keep in mind the mine does shut down access occasionally for safety reasons but Ive never seen it myself.
