Well I find myself this year alone on Christmas eve so I am headed out the door for the hills. Going to be a lonely night in the tent. Good luck to the few Christmas day hunters.

Nah just having fun. Meaning no disrespect. A little ribbing and a free bump.

Number one for me is solitude. I don't care about deer as much as seeing no people. Second to that is scouting, right now I am hunting deer where I have a pig tag so I look for my pig herds and take my bow along. Being new to this I have very few "spots" so I am always probing new country. Since starting to hunt recently I have seen more of this state than I did the previous 35 years. I love this state.

I have several buddies along with me who buy dads every year. Its great to give back to those who got us here. Still buying the kids too. Big bill for all of us but its worth it.

Let's take a little more time for research. I have 2 contacts in Texas and I can do some online looking as well. Lets see what comes up. I would even be willing to go as a non hunter if too many guys want to hunt. I can still split costs and help out.

Had a good week with 30 plus or so hiked miles in steep country. Carried my 40 lb pack at all times. Have not been able to get into my race training routine but I am close. No scale for me, I gained a few pounds but clothes feel good and I am strong so no worries. Big backpack hunt coming soon and a big tri race to train for so I think this will be a good year. Come on Jan 1.

I would hit the net and start making a list. There is some great hunting there. I have a friend there and will hit it one day. You can hunt many different species for cheap and still hit a good ranch as well for your deer. I believe the hogs and exotics are free to hunt if they are on private. Some ranches let you hunt them free if you book deer or something. Should be fun.

You do have a tag right? Anyway I have no idea where mule deer live in there. I hear you are in the right general area though.

I just went through this thread for the first time and man I was missing out, great animals. Here are 2 of mine.

Mine has the drop away floor plate, which one is the factory take off in the pics? The top or third one down? What is the yellow on the barrel end?
