Helped out on this hunt last year lots of fun. Any of the main forest roads going into 27 are good areas just park an get off the road some then relax. A lot of road hunting and the elk will get pushed around a lot. Funny thing is I usually stay way away from roads but I scouted several days in the wilderness areas and saW no elk but driving in and out saw a bunch. Make sure your up and rolling before dark. We saw zero elk in the afternoons. I will look at my map and pm a decent area but this was my first time in there so can't help too much.

Speaking of doctor visits I can speak to what really happens when you let yourself go off and gain weight, drink, smoke whatever it may be thats not healthy. When I started my life change I had just happened to have a yearly physical so I had data to go off of to see some progress. A year later my doctor took some extra time to look over my labs and he said if he didnt know me he would have though my labs were from someone else, the difference was that much. Keep up the good work. I am headed for my run now, Just do it !!!!

Opening Day of Arizona’s Cowtown Long Range Shooting Club - 4-Oct
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to Bill Poole's topic in Long Range Shooting
I heard that the commercial training deal is already in place and its some kind of FBI training. So they are already doing some shooting there. -
Ya best thing ever is bullet proof diesel.

Just stay away from the payson area unless you want to be up all night. Me and edge have old crow med show coming to play live every night during that hunt.
-
Its the boot. Mine blew off one time and did the same thing. Get that boot replaced.

What a beauty, Congrats. Just my inexperienced mind so pardon if this a dumb question, why not take care of the meat that night? Research has trained me to strip that sucker asap or meat loss is almost certain depending on where you are?

Very nice, way to stick in there and work around the pressure.

Need opinions on a new sidearm
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to naturegirl's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have some on the west side but not the east sorry, I know I handle fire arms quite a bit and carry daily but I recently went through concealed carry and it was an eye opener. There was alot I was not aware of in the rules. I also learned a few new things on handleing. One thing for sure was that half of the class was so green and uncomfortable with firearms that it took 5 instructors to keep them straight. Half the class looked like it was their first time. I would think that Usery gun range would have some classes, I know Ben Avery does. -
I pulled an almost zero last week, I didnt lose too much ground but didnt get much work in for fitness. I did make the wife happy with chores and fixing one of the trucks. I had a posessed vehicle that decided to strand me on the way to the lake then I spent 2 days under it. I did get some good sit ups in I guess. Took the dirt bike out Sunday and got a good sweat but other than that Just dealt with lifes curve balls all week. Gym bag is in the truck this morning and looks like a good day for a trail run. I will be at Deems hills park at 5:30 if anyone is in the area and has their running shoes.

Opening Day of Arizona’s Cowtown Long Range Shooting Club - 4-Oct
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to Bill Poole's topic in Long Range Shooting
This is out there by the canyon motocross track and car track, cowtown I believe was or is that paintball town, Sounds interesting but luckily we have a spot near my place about 30 minute drive to shoot out to 2000. I have a feeling this wont last too long, I see Peoria getting closer and closer. Worth checking out the opening free event to see whats up. -
DIY annealing machine
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to DesertBull's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I go 4 loads on my brass before anneal. I do my 30-30 after 2 loads because they are tougher to size. I usually do my 556 while one of my buddies reloading and we have the tunes cranked so its not alot of labor. -
Star line has 45 90 not on backorder but no delivery date set either. I ordered some and it was 2 months delivery but that was backorder. Call them and see.

Proposed Tonto NF Fees Changes
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to PRDATR's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
To be honest I have never paid any tonto fees, not even sure how much I have been in that forest for use but I have never been around any improved areas either. Last time I was in tonto I passed a sign that said no services and no maint of facilities which meant the loos and trash were not being taken care of and were locked so what exactly are the fees for? Anyway it sounds like they are getting the info on the fees and the system is not working for them or us so they are going to revamp the whole deal. -
I am wondering how many of us are in some sort of a routine as far as day to day fitness. So what are some of the routines you are doing now to stay healthy and fit? My current load which has stepped up from recent weeks fighting will power! I am 42 and 6'2" 210 lbs. Dont know my fat percent but I am looking to lean down to 200 before Aug 22. Lake open water swim 3 days a week while towing Kayak aprox 30 minutes followed by aprox 30 minute light run on Lake trails.(Brick is tech term) 2 days a week ride mountain bike aprox 30 minutes followed by 20 to 30 minute light run (Brick is tech term) 3 days a week I do simple pushups, situps, pull ups workout whenever I have time. I always sit on an exercise ball on the computer. This is my work week training, on the weekends I always try to work in scouting as fitness like this past weekend I hiked with my pack (40lbs) aprox 16 miles on and off trails over 2 days scouting. The same is coming for this weekend. I try never to leave home without my gym bag that helps. As far as diet I try to eat a balance of all food groups, I do drink wey protien shakes after big workouts and generally for lunch daily. I do not own a microwave oven. I do not eat out much at all with the exception of sushi. Zero fast food. Zero Soda Very little beer. Next event planned is Offroad Triathlon at tempe town lake in October. (Sprint distance) Saturday mornings a few times a month I can be found at the local Motocross track running 5 or 6 7 to 8 lap motos for a full body workout. I would say trail running and swimming are my 2 favorite workouts by far other than Backpacking.

I just friended explorer since he put bourbon in his grammer. Welcome

My first experience with az wilderness consisted of crazy dirt back roads then confusion private land easement access and no less than 4 gates within 1 mile followed by many many cows and some very unsightly cow living areas. I was bummed as I expected untouched unspoiled wilderness. I could have built a small cabin from all the patties left behind. I agree the sycamore canyon area is perfect for sheep's. heck I think the Bradshaws should hold sheep too. Maybe its more of a money issue. Dump the wolves and fund the sheep's I say

Maybe we are over the hump soon.

Forget about the bears if its for az. Unless you plan on hunting around griz no need to worry about bears. Pepper spray is better for bears anyway. The likelihood of fending off a bear with anything less than say 44 mag is low odds given the lucky chance that one was to attack and you actually hit it when shooting. Go with whatever gun is most comfortable for you and what you shoot the best in a defense situation. I myself have a few I like but 40 sw is what I carry daily. I highly recemend a good 2 day concealed course with scenario live fire. Amazing how bad you shoot when rushed or when you are in even mocked real life situations. I can drill holes at 25 yards at the range but when tackled by a 200 lb male and forced to escape then asked to shoot the same in the next 3 seconds I missed 5 shots. Many many trained cops have fired 10 foot shots in real life and never hit the attacker. Practice training makes whatever one you choose the right choice. -
Man very nice. Tons of congrats. You are an animal.
