Quilt vs bag, basically you are gaining the warmth of the down you compress under your body. So you also gain the weight of the down or fabric that is now not under your body.

My first ever backpack trip and first archery hunt was in 2012 if I remember right and I went from zero to 10 miles back in 1 month including bow. I shared a tent with my partner , used Walmart backpack, Walmart sleep bag, cheap foam pad, 7 year old boots, 9 year old camo, pocket rocket stove, mtn house and tuna fish, pse nova bow, bushnell binos, I'll tell you right now those were some of the best dang days I've ever spent in the woods, it hooked me for life to the backcountry, I spent all the next years slowly upgrading items and still keep that first set up for friends to use, goodwill, army surplus, Walmart, Amazon used, or even make your own stuff. I've built my own pack saddles, fixed bags, sewn clothes, glued boots, there's always a way and we definitely get caught up in the top gear, don't let lust keep you from getting out. Get tough and buy cheap then save and buy the lust later

Planning a big trip next year starting in Wyoming fly fishing my way back to AZ over two weeks or so. I am a rookie at the fly deal and could use some help, oddly enough I'll be building my own rods and lines from scratch but I'm not sure on length and weight. If you had two rods and 3 reels what would you bring for rods and what 3 lines would you spool? Also if you had your pick of rivers to hit what would be your top 2 rivers in Wyoming and Colorado?

I'm in

Great info thanks a ton. One cool deal on my guided float is flys are included, that will help get me started then I can shop local and get the right flys , for Wyoming anyway. Right now I have a total of 7 flys. Haha

I think my wife had hers in 5 weeks, that was about a year ago

Well I'm already paid for 2 days with river options in Wyoming which is why the big trip, I don't wish to pay past what I am at now so 2 days will be it then I plan to hit a new river or area and do some backpacking / exploring. Same deal for Colorado, no guided there just whatever I can backpack to weather it be lakes or rivers. After hitting the lake today I may bring 10 spools!!! Getting the hang of it though.

Oh and on a guided float day what would one tip for a typical day?
-
Great info man thanks, I was leaning to 5wt and 4wt but I like the 3wt idea. If I'm lucky I may have all 3. The reels will be another issue. Don't know much about strike indicators but I will inform myself asap

Really freekin good, you can see the cure didn't quite make it to the center and not sure why but you can't tell at all, tastes just like beef pastrami. Really good on its own and even better as a Reuben

Turf soaring school up by lake pleasant has some great guys, I have flown with one of his tow pilots several times and gliders as well. I would look into gliding to start with, aircraft are reasonable to buy and you can fly for hours super cheap. You get to learn most of the electronics as well. I too have a dream of my own plane some day.

Yep, we were just up there and a bunch were right inside the gates. Bummer

Due to lack of interest here it is, these are old phone towers about 10 miles down in the Grand Canyon. They run mainly from the north rim to about phantom ranch at the bottom.

I'll be there

I've heard every podcast and some twice and to the best of my memory Arizona has not been discussed past coues deer hunting.
