7 mm Backcountry
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Most guys I come across have zero interest in reloading nor do they have the time. I get a lot of request for load development. the testing I saw and talking with Manson Tools rep they are getting under 10 FPS deviation on factory ammo in test guns. 170 plus grain 7mm bullet going 3000 fps from a 20” barrel is a backpack hunters dream. I have not however looked at any accuracy tests yet. -
7 mm Backcountry

You will like that action if they keep up the production quality I’ve seen so far. -
I like that burst fire or something like that, its one of the round drum style with one torch and a slot in the drum to drop the brass in and out.

Close out on 2024 model

Sounds like a fun time thanks for the info. The restrictions do get frustrating, a 125grn limit you just lost every 6.5 mm guy out there. Fix the target system and let the guys shoot

adams meats in buckey, used to stop in every month when hauling hay from Bales Hay across the street. Always great but call ahead and see because they dont butcher often and will run out of cuts. I buy up all their bones and off cuts and make stock for the year.

270 WSM sizing issues
MULEPACKHUNTER replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
ya its all just what your wanting to get into, loading still saves a bunch on rifle rounds. I quit reloading some calibers since its not much savings to load them and not worth it. Id rather sit in my load room than watch tv so it keeps me busy for the 4 years waiting for a tag. We shoot pretty much every week so having all the tools is needed. If your curiosity gets to you can hit me up, I have everything to measure and find whats binding up on those cases -

I would invest in measuring devices to print the case after sizing, you need to know if your in spec or not -

Another case in point, I have been hiking the grand canyon most years for a while and have been down and out or across 8 trips now and many long backpack trips in between hunting or not. I let it get in my head that i was getting older and fatter and took a year off from the gym and I was in no shape to be going this year. I managed to make myself go and had an amazing trip with my two kids and (ex wife). I didnt want my kids to go without me so I started hiking with plate carrier almost every day after work even if it was short. Did every single mile solo and then got to spend the day with my kids in an amazing place and wouldnt you know it I was pretty good on the hike. The feeling getting through a rim to rim and sitting down for dinner watching my kids go back over the day was priceless. On the last 2 miles heading out the north rim I ran into a guy named Cody, he was solo and came down from the north about 3 miles to take photographs at sunset, he was a pretty heavy guy and said he was 60 and living with his 80 year old dad. I was in rough shape at that point slogging along and he sat with me and bulled for a bit teaching me how to hike when your old and tired, I said goodby and never stopped thinking about that guy the rest of the night. I hope thats me at some point. He had tons of excuses but refused to sit around. I figure it was dark for his last few hours out of there, cool dude. Wore his belt line 3 inches above his belly button, most of those guys have seen and done some stuff. Always remember you will, 99 percent of the time be glad you went, shooting, hiking, camping, stopped to see a freind, whatever.

I went on early archery bull hunts in prime units the last 5 years in a row and for sure this year there was a very noticeable lack of activity and numbers of elk. It was warmer for sure and a super moon. The other thing i noticed is for some reason the woods were jacked full of archery deer hunters both resident and no resident. way more than I remember seeing on Wednesday before elk hunt. Tough to even find a camp spot. Alot of that was the good old squatters (for another conversation). We spent 16 days this year and no filled tag, had some opportunities but not many. Alot of zero bugle days as well. We could find them at night but nothing talking during the day and very little rut activity when we did find them. Alot of spot and stalk due to calls not being effective.
