Theres actually a book called "the blue book of gun values" I believe its by a guy named Barry Fain but not sure. Had one a long time ago. Maybe its still being published and kept up to date. You can probably look it up on line.

I have my eye on a used Remington 700 bdl in 7mm rem mag. Other than the obvious things one would look for, is there anything else in particular? Is there a rule of thumb as to quality of the barrel etc?

Yes. Grunt tubes and rattling both work. But it helps if you already know the deer are there. To be honest ive called in more does than bucks with rattling.
