Coconino National Forest Travel Management Plan

Jeez, I really, really hate all this regulation. At least they give a guy 300' feet to get off the road and camp unlike Kiabab/Williams who gives you a whopping 30 feet. Wish there maps were a little more detailed. I know a few of these roads that are not signed that well and one of them that the map says is open has a sign on it saying its closed to vehicular traffic. Of course you can only see that sign when youre on your way back out the road. Anyone know when Tonto's travel management plan is due out? That one should be really interesting. Does anyone know of anyone who's been cited for a violaition yet? I spoke to the Williams office just prior to the archery deer season and he told me they would be getting more proactive on enforcing the new rules this fall. This guy was so excited about the new travel management plan for he Kiabab forest, it actually felt like he was expecting me to thank him personally for saving the forest.

    remington model 35

"I have my dad's old. 35 lever action. It usually sits in the safe but once in a while I take it out to shoot. It kicks like a. 300mag and has the trajectory of a pumpkin catapult."

DB, I think we talked for a minute or so on Monday or Tuesday. My buddy and I had just hiked up out of the canyon and were standing at out quads. Congrats on going four for four. No easy task.

Just wondering if any of you had any knowledge of the new shafts from Easton. Specifically the Injexion. Just saw them this morning on their site. Thanks

    6A october

Congratulations db. We talked to a few guys during the hunt and most weren't seeing any deer at all so we counted ourselves lucky to see as many as we did. We missed one and another just refused to give me a good shot.
  8. During my recent coues hunt my mind wandered to thoughts of a new rifle. Im thinking about a 270wsm with a custom barrel, trigger, stock etc. Was wondering if you all had any suggestions? Or do you you think it would be worth it to throw some money at the .25-'06 Ruger, Ive been packing around for years. (Kinda heavy, would like better accuracy etc)

    My 2011 Coues Buck

cool buck, cool looking rifle too.
  10. I cant wait. It's been a while since I had a rifle Coues tag. My best friend (aka Skeeter in this forum) and I are headed over to 6a for the early hunt in about a week and a half. Gonna be great to hunt with my bud again and revisit some old hunting grounds. If any other CWT members are in the area it'd be great to meet you. Best of luck to everyone.

    Gettin ready...

Meeting "Skeeter" in the morning somewhere in 6a. Little more scouting to do. Just realized theres going to be elk hunters in there at the same time.
  14. +1 for everything Lark has said. I can even remember language from USFWS (or some other gov't agency) stating that if the wolf program goes like they want it to they wont need hunting as a management tool anymore.

    Are you missing your cat?

I had a very large rooster a couple of years ago that saved most of my hens, short of one, from a pair coyotes. He unfortunatley succumed to the injuries he incurred a couple of days later. That was one tough rooster though.

    Gettin ready...

If you see a the white Dodge from the CWT home page (Skeeter's) and a crappy white Ford (mine) both with cwt.com stickers that'd be us. Picked up a lion tag today. Made an emergency run to Cabelas yesterday. Pretty much just need some grub and Im good to go. Cant leave till after work Thursday afternoon but plan to stay the whole hunt.
  17. They might as well just leave it closed. This is where there headed with the whole Fossil Creek area anyway. Now all they need is for a washout on the Camp Verde end of the road and the circle will be complete.

    Steve Favour

As you may have heard Flagstaff taxidermist Steve Favour of Signature Taxidermy passed away Friday from an accidental shooting. Lots of prayers from my family have gone out to his in this sad and shocking time.

    What would you do?

I too have lost a couple of animals in all my years of bowhunting and its bound to happen to all of us sooner or later. Both were hunt ending propositions. This is not a problem solely for the archery community. Just as many animals are lost by rifle and muzzleloader hunters. In the rifle category one may argue that more animals may be lost just do the fact that there are far more rifle tags. Also small blood trails and hunters taking shots beyond their capability.

    does anybody know this person?

Years ago I shot a nice pronghorn buck in 19a. The shot was a little high possibly only clipping the tops of the lungs. That buck survived through the day only because he kept getting bumped by other hunters and non-hunters all day long. The next morning I found him again and could tell he didnt have much time left. But once again there was about 4 other guys activly hunting him. I got into position where I new he'd go once he was pushed again but he never showed. He ended up walking past two guys who were stalking another buck and they finished him off as they could tell we was hurt bad. Now the guy who killed him was the guy who got to put his tag on him and keep him. They were really nice guys who had actually watched me shoot the buck the day before. I did not feel that I had any rights to the buck just because I had been the first one to get an arrow into him. Had this been another unit with less activity where the buck could have just bedded up and expired, hed probably be hanging on my wall right now. Just my two cents. I realize my situation is different than the one first mentioned in this post. I guess all I'm saying is $hit happens out there and trophy animals make some guys do some strange things.

Whats going on in 10 this yr.

Its not just guides. Its everywhere. This is just what hunting in Arizona has become. Most guys in general dont give a crap about the hunt anymore and just want to be the guy that killed the biggest whatever. Obviously they dont care whose hunt is ruined or even really care that much about the animal they are pursuing. Their ego is starving and has to be fed.

mexican army shoots at texas hunters

I wonder if Texas has the same signs along there border areas telling US citizens to be careful because armed outlaws from other countries have invaded us.

mexican army shoots at texas hunters

If a shoot out were to happen between american sportsman and lets say some drug runners... you know dang well that the government would feed the sportsman sharks. That was what they attempted to do with the fast and furious thing, make it look like the evil gun store owners were fueling the drug wars in Mexico.
  25. So this is USF&S jurisdiction? If these are Lacey violations then you cant even travel to and from a reservation in the state with you vintage instruments. And how would they know the source of the ivory on my guitar? what if its elk ivory? Is it legal to travel interstate with elk ivory? 14 trillion in debt and we wonder why.
