    taxidermy

Ive known the guys at Signature a very long time and cant imagine them using racist comments especially in front of a client. Im very surprised by that.

    Trees?

I have seen tree many times and yes it is on the way to Hannigans Meadow, however heard somewhere that it blew down a couple of years ago. Anybody else hear this?

    Turkey BP Question...

i believe you get a point for each draw, so technically 2 points per year if you are like me.

    Wolves on the Mogollon?

That is one of the silliest articles Ive read in a while. Just remember kids "in the wild wolves typically avoid people"

    olden days

Got a PM on this site from an old friend (HuntnCoues) I havent seen in 20+ years. It sure brought back some ol memories of the cool things I got to do as a kid growing up in Strawberry, AZ: Duck hunting at Long Lake, Fishing for yellow perch at Stoneman Lake, Seeing big mulies in 6A and 5A, Left over tags for December Coues hunts in 22!, Squirrel hunting while having a OTC turkey tag in your pocket just in case, Catching trout in Toms Creek, Catching truly big trout at Potatoe lake, Frog hunting, Going swimming in Fossil Creek and being the only people there... Life sure was good back then. Im sure Coues n Sheep would agree.
  7. Just wonderin how far you guys take your scent elimination.
  8. Ive been shooting the Easton Carbon Aero Excels for a few years now and have had excellent results with them. I was wondering if any of you had shot the new version now that theyve incorporated the slim tech technology? I did notice the gpi went up a little.
  9. NMG&F gave me the code name of Tanya Beyer and then the application number which looks just like a phone #. So I wrote it down. Then I had to explain to my wife who tanya beyer was and why I had her phone #. Thanks NMG&F!

    Unit 22 Elk

Im with couesnut. I think there should be a demising line across the state and any of those big, yellow, stinky, non-native bastards caught on the wrong side of the line could be shot on sight.

    22 North Bull Tag

this hunt will test your mental toughness. It is difficult, but some guys have been very successful. make a plan and stick to it.

    Unit 22 Elk

Units 22 and 23 have always had high bull to cow ratios. G&F has abviously had enough of this and is applying their "proven" mule deer management strategies to the elk in 22. Remember the good ol' days when the early 22 rifle hunt was limited to 4 points or better?
  13. I hope i never have to make that choice, but I may also have to say Rifle first archery 2, 3, 4 and 5. I prefer archery hunting. But I also just enjoy hunting. Heck I'd go hunting with a pocketful of rocks if I had to.
  14. Heres another vote for Mogollon taxidermy. Clay is the best. I wont use anyone else.

    Freaks of the Woods

Heres some pics of a gnarly coues rack I picked up about 7 or 8 years ago. It was actually burried in moss and mud on a creek bank. The only part visible was the back half of the skull and I had no idea what it was. Kinda like bullwinkle pulling a rabbit out of his hat, nothin' up my sleeve.... presto!

    Archery Hunting in Arizona

Gino, I know its hard to give up on "proven" areas. This year Ive decided to just drop all my sweet spots and start fresh, so to speak, closer to home. It made no sense to drive away from perfectly good deer and elk. Although I may have to broaden my horizons and start hunting mulies. Anyway, with your knowledge of coues deer I think if you just apply what you already know to any unit you will be successful.

    new treestand

Im looking to buy a new treestand this year, possibly a climber was wondering what type and brand you guys use. I already have a small hang on type (uncomfortable) and a homemade hang on that takes two men and a boy just to get it in the tree.

    Manfroto

Ive been using the same manfrotto/pistol grip head for ten years now. worth every ounce in your backpack when its time to glass especially on windy days. Mine has a ton of miles on it and a lot more to come. I did shorten the legs on mine so it would fit in my pack better.
  19. Must've been you Dan. Wow nice buck! We ended up finding some pigs but I hurried the shot, after drawing on him 3 times, and missed....
  20. Hey you guys saw a CWT.com sticker last weekend on a white Jeep Wrangler probably hunting pigs or deer in unit 22 near Punkin Center.

    Back from 23

Ok. Just came back from NM unit 23 late Wednesday nite. My buddy and I had the Nov. 4 mulie hunt. The only legal buck we saw were opening morning and were Coues deer. We hunted very hard and saw over 100 deer during the hunt. I wish we would have had bear tags instead, as we saw seven of them. One evening there were 5 bears on one hillside. One of them was the biggest bears Ive ever seen. The next day we glassed two different bears one another big one although he was a cinnamon phase. Bear sign everywhere we went, piles of it if you know what I mean. We did see one camp that had killed two good mulies, probably the only two mature deer left in that part of the unit. I just love the country over there though. Maybe if we'd have had another day or two... who knows. Congratulations to all those who were successfull.
  23. Nice rack Josh, Chris was telling me about it a few weeks ago.

    Road hunters in NM 23

This will be my first time hunting in NM since theyve gon to a draw. And yes the raod hunters are crazy thick over there. But I think that helps the guy who not afraid to venture out of the cozy confines of the pickup bed. The Coues in that country seem to be well off the road anyway and after the first few days most of the mulies with any inckling of self preservation are too. I have a lot of relatives from the Silver City area and they call there mulies "blacktails" also and also use eastern count when describing antlers. Weird. Ill be in 23 in a couple of weeks, but Ill be chasing mulies, er, I mean blacktails. Good luck to us all.
