    AZ Unit 33 Late

33 is a unit that you can hunt yourself, you will just need good glass and a willingness to hike some. I killed my first coues near the old"prison camp" off the Mt Lemon HW. I saw much more deer when I started camping and dirt biking off the Reddington Pass road. The north side of the Catalinas is supposed to be a great area, and I never hunted there, I would if I had your tag. The key is glassing, glassing and more glassing. You have a great tag, I wish you luck.

    Trail Cam Bighorn

Because his horns dont flair out but curl in in , it makes his mass look bigger. I would say mid to upper 160's, but that is great full curl ram in any unit. ! He's got the tight curl, which leaves a off a few inches in the score. Here's a 161 for reference.

    ML HELP NEEDED PLEASE

I am here to second what Rombo said about the humidity on the powder. I went through the same meltdown yesterday a.m.. I couldnt put a group together, much less keep it with in 8" at 100yards. The gun had shot well( not as well as I was used) just 6 weeks prior. I knew the scope mounts were secure, gun clean...I thought I had scrambled my scope with the 150 gr loads. With less than a week till my antelope hunt, I was coming apart mentally. I remembered reading this thread, and realized my Triple 7 pellets had been around a while, kept in my evap cooled garage, and just exposed to another humid summer. Fortunately I had bought a spare box a couple weeks ago. I broke the seal, went back to it, and put it in the bull. Went out this a.m, after a complete cleaning, shot a 1" group at 100, kept it within 3 at 200. The pellets will now stay in my safe in the a/c and be vaccum packed after the hunt.

    cashing in points??

I had 24 and drew for 2014. My thought process is that every year that you only buy a bp is one less year of your life you have a chance of pulling a tag. You could possibly go your whole life applying, and never draw, unless you are in max bpt or REAL close so you move into it at some point. Everyone has a chance every year, so the more years you apply, the better your odds. With 10 extra bull tags this year, your chances just improved. I was suprised when I looked at the draw stats, more people put in for the Raymond Ranch hunts than the House Rock. I guess the physical aspect of the HR hunt scares some off. Go for it, and good luck on the draw!

    Hearing Protection

I had a brake on my 7mag, and had always managed to put plugs in before shooting.., until last fall when I jumped a buck in thick stuff and had a split second to shoot. My left ears has been ringing for the last 9 months, and I dont expect it to go away. The brake is now off my rifle, but the damage is done. I wish I had let the deer walk, I can always kill another deer, but will never get my hearing back.

    where to start research

+1 for what Ruthunter said regarding "just remember to have fun". I had my tag in 2008, and the knowledge that I would most likely never again have the chance to hunt and hopefully harvest a ram almost caused me to have an ulcer. You can put waaaayy too much pressure on yourself. It took me a few months to settle down before the hunt, and realize why I hunt. because I enjoy it, and I do it for fun. My hunting partner asked me after we attended the ADBSS seminar, what my goal for the hunt was. I knew he meant score wise, which was what everyone seemed caught up in. I looked him straight in the eye and said" To have fun on this hunt". As stated above , contact the WM for the unit, they are a great source of info, attend the seminar, GF can supply you with the names of previous tag holders for what ever unit your friend drew. Most will be more than happy to share their experience and info with you. It's a learning curve, and I guarantee once you hunt desert bighorn, you become addicted. My friend drew this year, we think its the same hunt I had, so I am stoked about getting to go out again. "Sheep Fever" is a very real thing. Good luck to your friend, and as stated take LOTS of pix, start before you find sheep, make an " album" of the hunt, cause its alot of fun to go back and reminise years later.

    ANYONE GET HIT FOR SHEEP

Actually Muley224, you can draw a second tag even if you fill the first one, because we have two species of sheep. You are allowed both a desert ram and a rocky mountain ram. I am hoping to pull a rocky tag before I get too old to do it justice, but not holding my breath.

    What bullet weight

I quit using the Powerbelts, they fly well, but fragment, and I was not over impressed with their penetration. I switched to the Barnes TSX, specifically the SST which are an EZ load. 250 grains with 100 grainss of Triple 7 powder has done in antelope, elk, black bear, javelina , eastern whitetail, and hopefully this fall another BIG antelope. The bullets expand and retain almost 100% of their weight, giving them great penetration. They group fantastically out of my Knight, several friends CVA's and anothers TC. The best bet is to play with arond with it, my gun groups better with the 100 grains than 150, and my shoulder likes it a whole lot better as well.

    Bowfishing

Can you find the carp cruising all summer during the daylight ( early and late) or is that primarily in the spring around March and April? I spend a lot of time on the water, but until this year never paid much attention to the carp I see. Trying to figure out if its too late for good action at Rosie this weekend?

    Bowfishing

Help! This is my first real season of getting into bow fishing. I have a question for those of you who have been doing it a while. I went to Pleasant last night, went to the back of Humbug, and other than a few fish jumping 50-100 yards from the boat, never saw one carp. The water visibility was great, no wind, I could have spotted any fish down to 7 or 8 feet. I have read that there are a few of you who hit Pleasant regularly, I would sure appreciate any advise on that lake. I had a great trip to Rosie a bout three weeks ago. At Pleasant we hit the same types of brushy areas, checked varying depths, Nada. Any advise would sure be appreciated.

Looking for a home for our Silver Lab

Is he house broken? I have two large labs, one older, one young... not crazy about doing the puppy- two year old destruction thing that comes with labs again, but need to find another to keep the 3 year old company when the old guy passes. Plenty of room for another, the hard sell will be the wife.

Thanks for the info, how was the water visibility? I'm guessing it was pretty clear with so little run off, although I guess that will change this weekend with the rain.

    My Desert Ram

Great Ram! I'm guessing you were hunting the Tinajas in 40 b by the color of the mountain? The background desert floor looks like the one in my photos, I had that tag in 2008, and remember those white rocks searing into my eyeballs.
