    2015 sheep season

"It's only a once in a lifetime tag, no need to take it serious, right?" Actually, no. Its a once in a lifetime kill for the general draw, Super Raffle and Commisioners tags dont apply.l. I know a guy who drew the same desert tag twice, 2 years part, the first time was prior to the bonus point system. He did not kill, so he was eligible to apply again. H e connected on the second go round.

    Any Hits for Bison?

So, elkahoiic, have you had the tag? I did, I didnt sit in a blind on water or salt for a single hour, , but hiked my butt off climbing in and out of canyons, in snow drifts and ice shoots. Never saw another hunter either. Great hunt, great experience, and great memories. I'm getting a little tired of nay sayers shooting out negative crap to people who have the tags, its like any other hunt, it is what you make of it. Those lucky enough to draw the hunt should be excited, but understand that it can be a tough hunt, frustrating, and demanding. Those who haven't, or didnt have a successful hunt by the requirement of filling their tag should not be trying to crush the excitement of those who are fortunate enough to draw. On another note, hunters may soon be able to hunt in the GC Park, thanks to our state Senators, if that s the case, there will be some big bulls hitting the dirt once the tourists leave!

    Lost Iphone in 12A

If it had been later in the day, you may have been right. However, at the time my goal was to text the wife I was alive, I wouldnt call and ruin a good weekend hearing about the problems at home. In your own words, " Youra dick!" LOL You talk to your future father in law and hear about the shenanigans up there?

    Lost Iphone in 12A

If anyone was turkey hunting in 12a this past weekend and found an Iphone6 in a black Otterbox, I lost mine. I imagine I lost it off the beaten path, but it may have fallen out of my pocket near the road in the Sowatts area. That will teach me to turn the dang thing off and leave it in the truck.

    Lost Iphone in 12A

Well, as most may know, there is almost no cell service on the 'Bab,.I only had it cause my buddy found a spot out Sowatts way where he had 2 bars. I took it the last day hunting to let the wife know I was still kicking, it had been off and in the truck for the first two. Long story short, the message didnt go through, I lost the phone, and where ever it is, the "find my Iphone" feature shows it off line, so its of no value. I got my replacement today, but I hadnt got some of the pics on the old one backed up,so they are a loss. And then it rained like crazy Sunday night and most of Monday in that area, so I imagine that IPhone is a NoPhone at this point.. Nick, if your going up for the jr. hunt, you should have no problemo! If you dont have a honey hole lined up, pm me, I can tell you a couple areas where we saw a bunch of deer.

Jr Muley Doe Hunt - 12AW

It can snow in October, but it would be rare. With the jr hunt in October, you should be able to find deer all over, they will still be in the higher elevations. There is a a huge burn area off the highway on both sides that will hold loads of deer, it is starting to grow up some, but you can still glass and find deer. If the oaks are dropping acorns that early, find areas where the oak draws are and deer will be near by. You should have NO trouble finding does in October, I will be up there chasing turkey and grouse the weekend before, I'll get back to you with what I see then.

    Buffalo guides and outftters?

As the regs say, its first come first entitled to the place, no different than hunting water on early elk or deer hunts. I guess if Russ had set blinds with chairs out, he shouldnt have to expect somebody to be in his blind by getting there first, but he should honor somebodies position if they got to that salt first and set themselves up. Russ does bust his butt to maintain salt up there and keep the bison coming out of the park, I havent heard of anyone else hauling sixty 50 lb blocks into the woods in a weekend. Its a sticky situation, everyone wants to hunt the areas the bison move to ( read salt blocks), yet how many will put in the effort all year to get them moving. I have to feel that a guy who puts in the time and money should expect a return on it, as in successful and happy clients, but I also have had situations where guides think they own the forest as well. Everyone is entitled to hunt it. They need to open the Park to bison hunting to alleviate this problem and give hunters some elbow room.

    Buffalo guides and outftters?

Sounds like a raw deal if he did do that.. I can understand your resentment. Sorry your son did not get a chance to kill a bison. Which hunt did your son have?

    Buffalo guides and outftters?

B C , you would be the only person I have ever heard speak badly of Russ, I have talked to numerous people who were not his clients that he helped out on that hunt over the years. I would say that for a newbie to log in and make disparaging remarks like that, it sounds like a personal character attack and grudge.
  12. I cleaned out my closet to paint yesterday, and found that I have 11 XX78 Super Slams in 2413 cut at 27" with inserts installed. Most are new , a couple had some target time. Free to anyone who can use them, I am not gonna store them another 10 years.

    Leftovers....Bad news

I pulled a second choice leftover tag, was shocked that I didnt get my first choice... where are all these people coming from? GF pumped so many hunts and tags into these southern units, and all are selling out. Wow! I remember the "good old days" when you could actually get a second tag, and kill two deer because no one wanted the left overs. Now you're lucky to get them. Go figure.
  14. I will second the TC and Knight remondations. I have an older Knight disc, it shoots great. Borrowed a friends TC when a buddy needed a muzzleloader for pig, and I was very impressed with the gun. You get what yo pay for in a muzzleloader. Not a fan of the Powerbelt bullets, they tend to disintegrate on impact and not penetrate real well. Switched to Barnes, and have had great results with them on penetration and accuracy. I use 100 grs of 777 pellets because the 150 gr. is not fun to shoot. I am comfortable shooting this rig out to 250 on deer or pig sized cirtters, but have not launched a bullet past the 250 mark. After all , these are supposed to be "primitive weapons". Ha!

    Buffalo guides and outftters?

Plus one for Chad's and Russ Jacoby! I was one of his 98% last year, I took the first bull of the season in January, and at the risk of skewing Chad's hunt average, I was done in one day...albeit the longest but most rewarding day of hunting in my life. The guy knows every tree, buffalo pit stop, travel route, etc. on the Kaibab. He is the Buffalo Bomb! I talked to another outfitter prior who had me convinced that you cant get in till the snow starts melting, but Russ isnt afraid of the snow pack and can show you photos of snow hunts that will blow your mind. Plus he's a heck of a lot of fun to be around which makes it easier to be freezing and tired after a 23 hour day of hunting and packing meat! Best day of my hunting life! Congratulations to all that drew, I wish you success and great memories!

    Upcoming Buffalo Hunt

archerman, to answer your first question, the meat is DYNOMITE! I am still eating off of my 2014 January kill, had loin steak Friday, and London Broil Sunday. Roasts are fantastic as well., the burger meat will spoil you for life. I used a processor. I cut my own deer, but gave up on elk due to size, and a buffalo was out of the question. My back gets too sore working over a cutting table.
  17. Kidso, I have 11 aluminum arrows I found while cleaning out the closet for painting. You are welcome to those as well, I had them in the recycle container , and then figured I would post today to see if anyone could use or wanted them. The down side is I am in west valley.

How far is too far of a shot?

I enjoyed reading it, you hit on a lot of key points that many overlook when this debate comes up. There are so many variables when hunting, where as target shooting takes away a lot of them. Bottom line, a hunter must know their limitations, and hopefully have strong ethics and enough respect for the animals they pursue to consider the ramifications if they dont account for all of these variables before taking the shot. Someone once described being ethical as by what we will do when we believe no one is watching or judging us.

  20. Price drop. Someone get these outta my garage, Please?
  21. Tires have 10,000 miles, and mounted on Jeep Wrangler wheels. $250 All highway miles, no chunks, rotated with even tread wear. One tire has a plug from a small nail. My daughter upgraded, went back to school and left them in my garage, lucky me! Tires new at Discount are $147 plus tax etc. Standard load range, should be fine on a 1/2 ton truck with 17" wheels as well.

What happened to all the fish at Lees Ferry

Read the lee's Ferry Anglers post, very informative, and disturbing. Looks like the God Players creating floods to mimic nature screwed the Ferry up big time at this point. Hopefully the real Mother Nature will be able to reverse their damage with time. All for the beaches! Give me a break!
