  13. Go to your local Fry's and buy the latest edition of Outdoor Life magazine. There is an extensinve comaprison in there comparing the Biscuit versus the drop away. Some pretty good info comparing the effects on arrow speed and accuracy.

    UNIT 7W Archery Bull Elk

I drew that tag a few years ago. I was into quality bulls every day including some outstanding 6x6's and one beautiful 7x6. My problem was that I was competing with a group of four hunters from Texas that all had guides. On my third day, they found the bulls I was hunting. Several times I was able to get out in front waiting to ambush only to have these guy's blowing cow calls like crazy and really pushing the elk at a pace I couldn't shoot at. So, the area I hunted was in the east part of the unit, look for Red Mountain on a map. The elk were bedding west of Red Mountain, then feeding south of that area into a large meadow that borders FR 144. FR 715 will get you north of the bedding area so you could set up to ambush them as they are returning back from their feeding. That year there was not a lot of rain so the elk in this area were using Lost Tank to water.

    6A December Rifle Tag

I've seen quite a few coues bucks south of Clear Creek over the last few years. December will be touqh. The weather will be the deciding factor. If you get snow, move further south in the unit and glass the south facing slopes like antmo23 suggested.

    Range finder

I looked at the Vortex Range finder and I am pretty sure it was for rifle only. If you want a rifle and archery mode, Leupold makes a good one. I looke at it recently at Cabelas. It was going for $319. I also looked at the Bushnell Scout Arc 1000 and was surprised to find it more clear than the Leupold. It also sells for $319 but Cabelas has it on sale with limited quanities for $219.00. That's $100 off. Try out as many as possible. There are some great reveiws on all the models mention on Youtube.

    Help 24B coues

Drew an October 24B coues tag. By no means do I consider myself a trophy hunter, just want to see some bucks and have an opportunity. Taking my 10 year old son along for his first big game experience. Any suggestions on where to start my scouting? Have never hunted this unit before and am looking for some high vantage points to start my glassing.

    Help 24B coues

Thank you Flatlander for the info. Gonna head out this weekend and get familiar with the area and some of the trails. I've got six weeks of vacation to burn up before the end of the year so I will be able to make many trips out there before my hunt starts.

    Help 24B coues

Thanks Jcubed. I am thinking about coming in from the north end below Roosevelt lake. Less roads hopefully means less people. I love to hike so putting a pack on and covering some ground doesn't bother me one bit. After looking over many maps of the unit, there are many hiking trails covering the mountain ranges in the unit. The wilderness area appeals to me because of the lack of roads. Really want to get away from as many hunters as I can.
