I'm looking for a fishing guide/charter in the San Diego area for the up-coming spring break (mid March). I'm not wanting one of those large ships where you share the day with 49 other people. If any of you have information or past experiences please let me know. I'm starting from scratch so any point in the right direction would be appreciated. PM if you rather.

It took me 3 days to quit laughing after I saw it for the 1st time.

I have a question for all of you
ghost hunter replied to little miss Huntn coues's topic in Youth Hunters
Firstcoues is probably right. "Accuracy" is mostly a person thing. But if you are asking 'mechanically', then it is probably the one with the least amount of drop in the bullet. But it could also get into the area of which shoots the smallest group without a person involved. The answer to that one will need to come from some one with more technical know-how than I. Good luck with your project. -
Instead of a guy with a machette, I'm gonna use the tried and true "trunk monkey". Gets'm everytime.

Spotted 3 of them @ Mesa gfd office
ghost hunter replied to bonecollector's topic in Sticker Sightings!
That's not fair...hanging around the G&F office on the application deadline day is like...well putting a tree stand on the only water source in miles.lol -
Given the country most coues live in, I can't remember ever seeing enough of a trail to decide if the rear tracks are inside or outside the front. I basically go by size. When you see a big one, it will grab your attention and get you all excited because it will definitely belong to a buck worth shooting all your shells at.

Quite an accomplishment. Good luck!

Newspaper Article for Hunters
ghost hunter replied to jwhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Problem is, these people vote as well. -
Str8shot you are right. If your hid out in your blind or tree stand and someone walks in on you and didn't see you, take that as a complilment that your camo worked and the intrusion was unintentional. Guess my gripe is with other hunters who know for a fact that you are there, either by arguing with you that this is their spot (even though you were there first) or purposely hunting/sitting around you after they know you are there. Those are the situations I've run into at least once a season, in every season, over the past 3 years.

I'd like to think that there is still respect amoungst us hunters but if my experiences are an indication, then we'd better start to realize that it is fading fast, or we'd better find a way to bring it back to the fore front. In 45 years of hunting, I'd not had a bad encounter until 10 years ago. In the past 3 years, its been at least 1 each season. And it didn't matter what you were hunting. Just lucky? A sign of the times? Or did I finally get a string of bad apples?

Where did you go the first time?

You may not like McCain, but Glassman was part of Raul "Please Boycot My State" Grijalva's congressional staff. With Grijalva being the 3rd most liberal member of Congress (govtrack.us Oct 2009), that is scary stuff.

Kind of early in the night but....
ghost hunter replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Since Glassman was part of Raul "Please Boycot My State" Grijalva's congressional staff, I'm guessing he will be just as much a flaming liberal as Grijalva, who happens to be the 3rd most liberal member of congress (govtrack.us-Oct 2009) You might not think that's much of a choice, but McLaim (as you say) would probably be the better choice. We, as voters and Americans, need to start demanding better people running for office. IMHO -
I have a picture of a hunting buddy that was taken 30 yrs ago in the Chiricuhua Mnts. Everytime I see it, I remember back when and laugh because you can see 10-15 red dots (finger nail polish) on his legs. What we found out then was to rub Muskol (100% Deet) on you where your sock would be BEFORE you put your sock on. Didn't guarantee you wouldn't get bit, but we only got bit a few times then. Of course, you can't buy 100% Deet anymore. They say its bad for your health. Chiggers...bad for your health...Chiggers...bad for your health. I'll take my chances and breakout the Muskol I still have.

I've been to that edge and looked over, then backed up, took a deep breath, and went back to hunting. I'm not a quitter but we may be all looking at this the wrong way. Since this came out yesterday, I've been thinking. When I started deer hunting, you hunted with your Winchester 94 30-30 lever action gun. You headed out to go 'mono y mono' with that buck. Your hunting skills vs his survival skills. You either walked and walked and walked or you sat on a ridge. (no body ever hunted water holes) All you had on your side was your woodsman's skills and MAYBE a set of 7x35 binos. Todays hunters have/use/rely on game cameras, 15x50 binos, ballistic scopes with adj. turrets, range finders, quads, blinds, etc. "Hunting smarter" they say. One day while out hunting, a friend asked my why I had X?. Out of my mouth blurted, "Ya, what I lack in skill, I make up for in gadgets". Really? I thought it sounded funny, but really? Now don't get all riled up, its not the gadgets its the attitude. Contemplate the general theme of this tread: to quit or not to quit. Ya hiking in farther will probably get you away from the causes of your frustration, but it doesn't cure the problem. Quiting doesn't either. Like the old cigarette commercial used to say, "Id rather fight than switch". Really! So why should WE have to change what we do just because of a couple of knuckle heads. Why not make THEM change? How you say? Education. Enforcement. Consequences. or ? We probably can't require everyone to take hunter ed since we just made hunting a 'right' but we sure could do away with the on-line class. Just how much hunter ethics can you teach in that class. Make it part of the regs that you can't be acting like a jerk out there or you get your hunt priviledges suspended for a while. I'm sure there are other options available, these are just the two that popped into my mind. If you think this sounds crazy, look at the top few reasons why people say they quit hunting, or don't hunt as often. Lack of access or a place to go is one of them. Why? Landowners cite vandalism and lack of respect for denying access. Sound familiar? We start acting better, we'll all get along better and maybe have a few more places to go. So what say you?

Fire your Congressman...
ghost hunter replied to scoutm's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I wondered about that for just a second and then thought I understood- It was an example of the answer a leftie would give. If they don't understand the question or want to skirt the issue, they call you a racist and now your the one on the defense. -
What your looking for is a 'land status' map. Unfortunately, what you are going to see is what little green there is (forest service) surrounded completely by white (private)

Whats sad is that the unions in LA sent several busses with protesters (agitators) to Phoenix for the big media show. Really makes you question their sincerity. Moral/Social issue? Ha. Legal issue? no way. Looking to stir up racial hatred and to be fear mongers? Absolutely. How do you think they get new members? They convince you that without them, the company will use you, abuse you and eventually throw you to the wolves IF you don't join. They (union) will be your friend and look out for you. For a price of course. I dropped my union membership 30 years ago when I realized they didn't give a squat about me, just looking for numbers and a monthy contribution. Worked there without incident and retired in good standing.

1070 Protest
ghost hunter replied to TexasHunter's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Dangerous...yes. But not giving them their 15 seconds of sham might be the best approach. If you aren't getting noticed, why be disobident? Channel 4 mentioned it last night, talking to the reporter still on the scene downtown, "...is it just my impression, or did the protesters get really quiet when we stopped filming?" His answer, "yes they did." -
Yep, that's what I remember best about those beans; rubbing them and trying to burn someone's arm with it. Heck to find some, that was a treasure almost as good as finding a shed.

I am real interested to see the testimony in the upcoming suit. Obama/Holder will have to go into court and ADMIT one of two things: that Arizona's law does not go beyond the existing federal law and that their suit is a political in nature and big waste of time. OR they are going to have to admit that their immigration position is to NOT ENFORCE existing law which would constitute malfesance. Gonna be interesting...

Guess it depends who you are because there are only a couple of lines to cross. If you are G&F, you want to keep the heard at a sustainable level with the offered tags equal to what is over your defined optimal level (kind of explained by a supply and demand) only we (the hunters look at as hunt success ratio). If we get too skilled as hunters and the success ratio goes up, our length of season or available tags will start to go down. The archery pig season is almost getting to be the example. Used to be a month, now its 3 weeks long. If you look at the hunt success rates, they have climbed to near 30%. As for an individual, you'll know when you've crossed that line when you wake up one morning and feel that your quality of satisfaction is lower because you are dependant on something other than your own personal ability (physical and/or mental). That you are using do-dads as a crutch.

Debt per US taxpayer: $120,000.00
ghost hunter replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
How about offering amnesty to all those who should be punching themselves in the mouth 3x a day AS LONG AS they vote differently this time around? -
1440 rifle tags not including the junior hunt +all the friends and family that tag along+the carp hunters+limited access= I went somewhere else. I'm sure there are nice deer there and I hope you find one.
