Arizona girl needs your vote
ghost hunter replied to Rharris's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Can I vote more than once? -
I started out hunting a unit that quickly turned into a metropolis. Switched to another that had very little pressure. After several years tried one that was supposed to be 'packed with big deer'. All it was packed with was other hunters and those 'helpers' who seem to tag along. After butting heads with several hundred people each year, I went back to the unit I had hunted before. Half the tags, but twice the access and most of the hunters that draw that unit all go in the same place.

I propose a new scoring system!
ghost hunter replied to SilentButDeadly's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Good topic. What I thought you were trying to say; Excluding the 'guide' issue, when you do a DIY (do it yourself) hunt, it should be a 'do it YOURSELF' hunt. One on one, mono y mono, head to head. Father-son, father-daughter excluded. Having a trusted friend and huntin' buddy there is fine, but one hunter and 6-8 people helping you? It would be different if there were 6-8 hunters all helping each other. This situation was inevitable with the decline in available permits and the ever increasing number of people trying to draw. When they don't draw, they hunt vicariously with those they go with. It does create an "over-crowded" look when you have say, 500 permits, and 2,000 people all prowling the woods. For me, its DIY either solo, or 1-2 close friends. If I missed the point, guess its more brews for me too... -
another miss hunter
ghost hunter replied to azcoueshuntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I bought a Ruger 308 in a youth model for my son when he was 11. Kicked like a mule. Had to put an extra recoil pad on it. Nice gun, short, light, easy to carry, but it kicks. FWIW. -
Spread these stories. Press coverage is the only thing that will get things moving. Of course, you do remember who our new Director of Homeland Security is? She's not helping a bit.

This one isn't a hunting prank and didn't happen in the field but... My son and I went fishing so we bought a couple of containers of worms. While we were at the lake, I happened to find the most realistic looking & feeling black plastic worm I've ever seen. Saved it for later. On the way home, my son and I planned the prank. So I put the styrofoam worm container in the fridge with the fake one hanging halfway out on the back side so when you reach in, you will either "feel" it without seeing it, or get the container in motion and it will touch your fingers. Told the wife I was keeping the worms fresh for the next trip out. Took three days and I wasn't even home when it happened. They were both were laughing when I got home. Seems there was a loud scream followed by flying worm dirt as the wife was sure one of them was loose and starting to crawl out on her finger.

Rear stock for Ithica shotgun
ghost hunter replied to ghost hunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks, hadn't thought of them. But...they only show the Ithaca 37. I've got a model 100 double barrel. Any ideas? -
Looking for information as to where one could find a rear stock for an Ithica shotgun.

I've hunted 29 most of my life, seen several bears, but no problems. Keep a clean camp and keep your food stuff sealed as best you can an store inside your car, not your tent. There are tons of signs at the campgrounds explaining all of this. Skunks and racoons are probably the biggest night time scavengers you'll run into. But a good flashlite and handgun always make me feel better.

My buddy, my son (12 at the time) and I all drew cow elk tags in NM. So I bought a walled tent w/stove. As we retired for the night, I see my buddy put his boots over by the stove so that they would be warm in the AM. During the nite, I get up and throw another log in the stove and got his boots and hid them. After the alarm goes off, we talk about how well the tent and stove work and plan the day. I see him looking around for his boots but he wont say anything. I'd filled my son in on it so he's going along with it good. Finally, he says that he put his boots over by the stove but can't find them. I told him that I hadn't seen his boots but during the nite I had gotten up to put more wood in the stove and I had trouble getting a couple of the logs through the door but I finally got them in. The look on his face was priceless.

I'm glad no one was hurt in either situation but I'm afraid that there are others out there with similar stories. I've hunted here since I was a kid and had not had a problem with other hunters until recently, especially the last two years. The personal ethics of hunters have really tanked, but one must wonder just how much hunter ethics a person learns during their "educational, on-line" hunter safety course? I hope they do away with that and go back to requiring the person to physically sit through the class. In fact, I've wondered if they need to emphasize hunter ethics and safety more than they do.

By now, you all should know that he was confirmed by the Senate 63-22. 5 Senators who usually back the USSA (U.S. Sportsman's Alliance) broke and voted in favor. Not sure who they are, but if they are from your state, write and thank them for nothing. In addition to the USSA, there were 15 major sportman and conservation groups who submitted letters against Sustein. Obama: "Cass is not only a valued advisor, he is a dear friend." Stand by, things will probably get worse.

They ARE in position. That's the same position you will find them in all day long, unless they are back in town at the local eatery.

Congressman Joe Wilson
ghost hunter replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I feel cheated that I missed that historic moment. Disrespectful...maybe. Appropriate...most likely. Its time people stopped being "politically correct", worried about hurting someones else's feelings and not holding individuals accountable for their actions. I try and watch some of the big speeches not so much to hear what they have to say, but to watch the people in the background. So...which is more inappropriate...Joe Wilson yelling, "You lie" or Pelosi looking like one of those windup jack-n-box toys jumping up and down while applauding like crazy every 10th or 12th word out of Obama's mouth or Hilary, when she was still Senator sitting there with that dumb smerk on her face looking like Alfred P. of Mad Magazine, rolling her eyes at everything Bush said. Who knows. All I do know is that voting is not enough anymore. If we, the silent majority, don't start speaking up and become politically active we really won't be able to justify complaining later when things get worse. -
Some think that the "center-right" of today is where the "left" used to be. I think that it is time for the pedulum to start to swing back the other way. After reading about the 9-12 Project, and the Tea Party's, its too bad the only one they had scheduled for Arizona was in Yuma. Anyone know how that went? The rest of them shown on Fox were bigger than expected.

Congressional lobbist for middle class
ghost hunter posted a topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Just who are the congressional lobbist for the middle class? When I heard this question it made me stop and think. Every other special interest group has them, so where are the ones for the rest of us. The obvious or unfortunate answer (in some cases) is: they are the people we vote into office. The next question then: when they vote, whose best interest are they actually voting for? If they never hear from you, how do they know what you want? We've all talked about contacting them when it comes to hunting/gun ownership issues, but what about the rest of the issues: Health care; Immigration; Financial bailouts, etc. I don't want to sound like some radical, but I think it is time to start putting our lobbist to work for us. Their contact information is pinned, please use it. -
That's why they are called "knowledge bumps",... because you learn not to do that again. Been there, done that. Learned the lesson.

A friend who bowhunted asked me to go with. After seeing some deer that weren't all spooked and then I realized that there was no one else out there but the two of us, I made the switch. But the biggest reason, other than the solitude, is the challenge. You don't have to work too hard to get a 300 yr+ shot, but try and get one under 40. Now that's saying something. Been going for longer than I'd like to admit. (Hint) My first bow was a Bear 4 wheeled, 50# killing machine (lol) and yes, I still have it.

I agree. What's mine is mine; what's their's is their's. What I do with my personal business is just that: my personal business.

Got there about noon yesterday. There seemed to be a good crowd in and around the place although you would have like to see millions. Watched them interview Ted for a while then had to get back to what I was supposed to be doing. Hope the NRA gets lots of new members and contacts. I saw 8-10 different news type cameraman and personalities walking around talking to people and getting film footage. Hope they come out favorable and not to try and develop a new list of 'undiserable' Americans.

Be thankful you draw a tag. Go and have a good time. See new country and learn new things. I've 'scounted' while I hunted alot because I didn't have a chance to get out pre-season. Any time in the woods is just prep for next time. If you've been hunting before, you know the basics, just use them.

I've heard people speaking out against her, but where are those who should be speaking up FOR her? Just watched Pat Orielly and he was asking the same question. The silent, moral majority better start speaking up or they will get left behind.

New Bailout Plan
ghost hunter replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Personally, I'd like to see them take those bonuses, plus seize and sell off all the assets of those CEO's from AIG, Bear-Sterns and the likes and use that money to pay for the countries bail-out. Just leaves me shaking my head about people getting rich and huge bonuses when they bankrupt their own companies. Duh!!!! Talk about rewarding bad behavior. -
Asking the question wasn't bad. It should just test the candidates ability to express themselves and to make sure that they are current with issues. To vote on the opinion expressed is just wrong. I hope she makes a big deal of this and really makes some progress. Unfortunately, she is now on Nappy's domestic terrorist list.
