Most Prized Waterfowl
WampusCat replied to SwampMafia's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
You are winning! -
100 gr RamCat. The large pumper is from a brute of a Kansas whitetail. Busted a rib on the way out. One of the blades was slightly bent but easily replaceable. These are my go to head after flight testing them. I love expandables but it is hard to beat the reliability and durability of fixed blade head.

Night Force SHV & Burris XTR II Scopes
WampusCat replied to darrcolburn's topic in Long Range Shooting
Also worth mentioning and spoken highly of would be the Bushnell LRHS series. That scope started with a complete re-design and purpose built. A couple friends have them and love them. -
So it would only take me 200 minutes to do a normal batch of 100 cases. Great example of "ya its possible" vs "practical use of time".

The "case head" or "web" starts near that line as well. The brass is a bit thicker there and doesn't expand at the same rate. It can begin to separate at the junction when overly worked. You can take a straightened paper clip and bend a small 90 deg at one end to insert and "scratch" along the inside of the case near that line. You will be able to feel when the split is getting ready to occur.

Wow! That's awesome. What a story! Congrats to you both.

New to duck hunting; trying out some tank hopping
WampusCat replied to Rando's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Can't help with that area but, not much experience needed for jumping tanks. 1. Find a tank with water. 2. Check it for ducks from a distance. No ducks try again on number 1 It won't compare to finishing them in your decoys but it beats the heck out of sitting on the couch. Only experience would help is ability to ID waterfowl before you shoot them. Check the regs for specific bag limits on specific species. -
Unobtanium... I have been looking as well. I don't need any this instant but I will in a few months. If you find some in a dusty corner somewhere holler. Good luck

Woohoo, best thread I've read today. Thanks for throwing that pic up for comparison. Those are pretty slick. I preordered some 143s and 212s when mid south first offered, but no sign of them yet. Would you mind measuring the overall length of the 143 & 212? I've got some time to kill and the mad scientist inside me wants to crunch numbers. -
Pond Jumping (beginners luck)
WampusCat replied to PatrickJr's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
No problem, and good luck. There will be plenty of Cinnamon's around throughout the season in southern AZ. You will need to go east a few states to reliably find Blue Wings. -
Pond Jumping (beginners luck)

Congrats on your first ducks! Unless you are dead set on mounting that Shoveler (nothin wrong with that), I would hold out for a fully mature male. You will know when see one, the head will be solid green and the back is white. As juveniles the colors aren't quite as bold. They really are beautiful birds despite those big honkin lips. A Blue Wing in AZ will be a very rare duck. Both Cinnamon Teal and Shovelers share the distinct blue shoulder patch as the Blue Wing. Cinnamon hens are almost impossible to tell apart from Blue Wings. -
Most Prized Waterfowl
WampusCat replied to SwampMafia's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Thanks. There are a few boats in the pics. The smaller ones are a Marsh Rat (smaller for solo trips) and a Four Rivers (longer and wider than the Rat) . The one where you can see the whole boat is the Four Rivers. They both have custom built doors to work like layout blinds. When the water allows, most hunting is done via bigger aluminum boats, either from them or just as freighters to carry gear. almost as good as coot... Coot can be pretty tasty when cared for properly (quickly). Good luck on the Mergansers. -
Anyone send one toward a critter yet? Punch any paper?
-
Gonna make me hijack my own thread with a statement like that. Haha. I've never fooled with vihtavori stuff cause it's more expensive but mostly cause I really like hodgdons extreme line. I'll send you a PM.

Thanks azhamill 308Nut, what barrel length and powder gets you those numbers?
-
Good to hear. I was bummed when I saw the 6.5 offering was only 130 gr with .518 G1. I think it will be the ticket for my all purpose AR load in the 77 gr .224 though.

Most Prized Waterfowl
WampusCat replied to SwampMafia's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I may have a slight problem as well... Its hard to pick an absolute most prized but I'd lean towards the late season Cinnamon or Bull Canvasbacks. Prime Shoveler and Can from a few years back. The boot lips usually get a pass except late season when they're dressed to impress. Such a treat when they skirt the dekes Near the top for prized is the Mexican. Sadly, I lost this bird to a faulty freezer. Someone always forgets to tell these AZ Goldeneye that they aren't puddlers. A stud Widgeon is always a prize too. Always love the AZ variety pack Late season solo desert variety pack Great day with a bull Sprig and Can -
Interested in the same ^^^ Figuring the tip would enable similar performance to the AMAX. I do wonder why they didn't offer a heavier (200gr+) .30 cal
-
Haha sounds like some of my Yuma experiences. That's a fine lookin cat!
-
Good to know. I stockpiled some of the 77 gr .224 offering in hopes of replacing my 75 gr bthp Hornady pet load when I'm home. I may end up with some of those 175s too.
