Definitely get it bedded if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. Why wonder if you could have gained from it while it was already there on their work bench. Lance, I built that rifles cousin except it sports a Krieger in a Sendero contour. Hard to beat that 4S !

I love my CZs! Sounds like it will be an awesome javelina rifle. -
Remington 870 Jam, Kingman
WampusCat replied to Sneaker's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Can you describe the jam and what is actually happening? Not ejecting spent case? Not feeding new one? -
I really like the looks of the new bighorn action and its mechanical ejector. Would be great for not slinging brass all over on a P-Dog town.

Lately, I have become very interested in using a Proof carbon barrel for a build in the coming months. All over the internet I can find guys singing the praises of these barrels and how amazing they are. Unfortunately it is pretty obvious that most of these guys have been sponsored by Proof or at least given barrels/rifles (same as sponsored). My trusted smith has mixed feelings about them. I have talked to two other smiths recently who have had less than desirable results with these barrels. One even refused to put another one in his lathe. Obvious downside is the price. If it does what they say (lightweight/remove heat with proprietary resin) and still shoots bugholes then I'd be willing to save a bit longer to achieve the specific results I'm after for this rifle. Would love to hear from members on here if you have had any experience, good or bad, with a Proof carbon barrel.

I've been playing around with leather in my spare time and intend to build a holster for a 7.5" Super Blackhawk. I am sorta particular about the way a pistol rides in a holster and I'm having trouble finding an example on the internet of exactly what I want to replicate. I am looking for something that will carry cross draw under or near under the left arm with the barrel down and slightly to the rear. The shoulder straps and their relation to the actual holster are where I'm having difficulty finding something that looks comfortable to wear all day. Does anyone use something similar to this and have a photo they wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks in advance.

I'll be interested in your experience with those Uni-ball UCA's. Doesn't take much dirt to get them squeaking good but if you find a way to prevent it please pass along.

Thanks for all the replies.

Most are north of 10. Heavy enough to think about cutting weight but light enough to suck it up and head up the next hill.

One for each NFA item. Short barreled rifles (<16"), Suppressors, and machine guns are $200 each. AOW (Any Other Weapon) stamps are only $5. AOW is fancy talk for concealable short barreled, smooth bore shotguns and short barreled (>12" but <18") rifle/shotgun combination firearms.

Thanks Brent, very similar to my thoughts the last couple months. I don't do flutes but the numbers are pretty similar to what I've been looking at. Thanks for your input. Edit - It has been difficult to find real numbers about the finished weights of these barrels. Just a lot of talk about stronger/stiffer when compared to equal weight steel.

Congrats! Need those pics now.

Great, now I gotta go see what the Mod Evolution bipod is all about. I was better off not knowing it existed..

Shoot off sand bags, sled, stands, bi pod?
WampusCat replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Long Range Shooting
It is very possible your rifle will group differently when shooting from a sled vs the free recoil that happens when shooting in a field position. Don't take my word for it, try it yourself. Set up a gong at 700 yds (or longer if you can) and shoot one shot like you have been with your rifle locked down in your lead sled. Next shoot the same gong with the same dope except do it from the prone off a bipod as if you were shooting cross canyon at your game of choice. The gong will tell you without question what you are looking to know. Repeat a couple more times to remove any doubt. I don't own a lead sled but I notice a significant difference in point of impact on several rifles when I change the amount of shoulder pressure I load the bipod with. Sometimes even small details like what the bipod feet are resting on (sand vs rock vs grass) will effect the point of impact. I say that to emphasize that it wouldn't be hard to believe that a lead sled does what people have told you. -
That BBQ sauce sounds like a great idea!

Agree with you Hyper, except the 17/coyote 17 is where it's at for me. In the front 1/3 of a dog and i rarely even get a spinner. Just stone cold, frozen in time for half a second before they tip over, dead before they hit the ground dogs. When I think of all the runners I've had through the years, regardless of cartridge, they were primarily due to where the crosshairs were when I pulled the trigger rather then which cal I was using. I refuse to use bigger than .22 for fur, but there are lots of ways to skin this cat. I am the farthest from shy about guts and gore but I honestly enjoy walking up to a prime fur that was just shot and it looks like it died of a heart attack without a drop of blood spilled. That's my usual 17 experience. Here is the opposite end of the spectrum. In eastern Europe teaching local friends how to call predators and the rifle they hand me is a 30-06 with FMJ's. I was as skeptical as they were of my hand calls. Everybody learned something that day. Definitely needed to stay off the shoulder on this one!

I run a Thunder Beast Arms on my 300 and love it. It is rated for the 7mmMag as well. The developers are long range enthusiasts who strive for the most accurate can possible. On the really big magnums you will need to ensure your can is rated for the barrel length you have and/or the amount of powder you are igniting. They all have limits and warranty restrictions, just need to get the right one.

because i hate snakes and sweating on a stand The blazing summer shall provide them no refuge! It's not about fur then, just doing mother nature a solid and good ole fashioned moving targets. Bonus to the kills are the occasional dust trails they put up when they come hard from a distance in the dry summer. Just like the cartoons.
