Willing to consider partial trade for left handed rifles like Cooper, Anschutz, Sako or Dakota. Or Nightforce rifle scope or other comparable optics.

    224 bullets for trade

Dang it. I wish you were looking for 69 grain HPBT. I have Sierra and Nosler I would love to trade for some of what you have.

    Weaver Rings

No motivation except maybe enthusiasm for others. These would make great starter rings for a kid and something that their parent or guardian can both enjoy together.

Not sure about their rareness or anything like that. I just know I got a lot of satisfaction and enjoyment from having these on a rifle and I would love for someone else to have the same opportunity I had.

    H 1000 at hodgdon

I usually watch what they have available. Too bad I missed this. I might have needed H1000 in the 20 or so days it takes to get powder you ordered from them. I will use other powder for now.
  10. I’m about to buy one. Anyone have one that can comment on it? It’s been a year of thinking about it and trying to decide on this one or the Bench Source and the talk is that this one is better.

    AMP Annealer

Thanks. I bought the Bench Source. It’s my first one and it looks like it might be the one to go with to learn. I’m sure I will end up with the AMP unit later as that’s how my equipment usually goes. I just bought the Matchmaster dispenser after I got used to the Charge Master 1500 and I look at it as a positive to have two or more pieces of equipment to do what I need in case one fails on a Saturday afternoon that would otherwise leave me stuck.

Another good thing is you won’t need to lap these rings.

ATV hunters running in prohibited areas

It doesn’t matter if it’s illegal or not, it’s whatever the person feels is right. Just look at the thread from a few months ago and see how many people wouldn’t pull over and let someone by. It’s how our culture is now. It’s not about right or wrong or ethical or not, it’s about freedom and what I want to do.

Get used to it. This is normal now. We live in a free country and everyone will tell you about their rights and forget about their responsibilities. I can just imagine confronting someone out there and letting them know that off road travel is wrong or at least irresponsible. That will not go well for me. Just look at how bad things have gotten in the last ten years. I see roads that branch off of main roads to a nice and convenient glassing spot because it’s easier to drive the 600’ than to walk over there. That’s normal now, just like being able to drive when and where you want. Calling the law on them won’t get any reaction unless they happen to be minutes away. The report that’s given if they cannot respond will be a cheap report that’s not worth the paper it’s written on because of the stack of complaints in the file these reports go.

Sight in service at Ben Avery

I guess this could be a good thing. I always thought sighting in a gun was one of the fundamental things you must know if you plan on any serious shooting. One step below this and you’re better off renting a gun if that’s the effort and respect you have for guns. I hope whoever does this is not doing it out of laziness and actually watches and learns something. I would be totally ok with that. I am one that loves guns and accumulate hordes of items devoted to making me better. Things like scope leveling and mounting tools and reloading items that can fill up this page. Some of those items I have two or more of because it makes sense to me to have more than one wrench or other measuring tool when more than one allows for better cross checks and consistency. It’s taken me a lifetime to get everything and I don’t think I’m close to done yet. I learned recently that not everyone has that passion and aren’t interested in going that far with firearms. As difficult as it is to see something like this, I have to not let it bug me.

Out of all on the list, I only met hoghntr. I traded PMs with biglakejake plenty of times but never met him. He was one I was sure I either knew or met somewhere before. All of his posts mention places I’ve been and people I know. It was like he was in my head. He seemed like a real good guy.

There are other ways to hunt. Think about applying in other states. I’m not wealthy so all I do is NM and occasionally MN for whitetail. Also, does it have to be big game? Maybe look into quail, rabbits and other varmints. I know we are spoiled and spend our time wanting and don’t want to hear anything else except what we want, but now it could be time to think of other ways to satisfy the hunting experience because it’s not going to get any better. The formula for that is less people and less habit loss. If we figure out a way to take care of those two things, we will see more and more animals. One thing I miss is Prairie Dogs. I wish a biologist can answer that one because I’ve had as much fun with those as big game.
  19. I’ve been looking for a month. They have 8 pounders.

    270 reloading

130, 140, or 150 grain will work fine. I use Barnes 140 grain TSX and they are the best shooting for me. Since they’re solid copper, they’re long. I load them just long enough to fit in the magazine but you will want to get the equipment and a modified case to check that. Either of the 4831 powders work fine also IMR 4350. My 270 is a Browning A Bolt Stainless Stalker that’s just about shot out. I got it in 92 and have put at least 100 rounds through it a year since. It wants perfect brass, so it has to be Nosler.

    DIY Gong Stands

I’ve seen a few with tire treads. If you use a LT steel belted tire, cut length wise, you will have 3 or 4 feet of hanging material that can take thousands of misses and still hang in there.

    Name that gun!

Not really. I was just thinking about the popular models out there. All I can come up with without cheating, or looking it up, was the model 1895 and model 1894. I know back in the day, they would model number rifles and pistols after the year they were patented.

    Name that gun!

I can’t remember the model, but since levers are from 1885-1894 and the revolvers are 1850 or so, it would be model number from 1850 - about 1870.

    Name that gun!

    It’s a Colt and I think it’s 36 caliber. I forget the model.
